I am against this post because it teaches us to be satisfied with seeing the same post every 3 fucking days

i am against this post because it teaches us to be satisfied with posting text as images for karma

This post is like a beautiful work of of art in idolatry. People idolize Dawkins so much they post and repost and then post again his stuff. They idolize him, putting him in the same vaulted position Christians put Jeebus. Even when he's wrong. Which in this case he is. Religion doesn't teach us to be satisfied with not knowing. It teaches us to be so scared of not knowing that we'll accept any horseshit answer. Science teaches you to accept that you don't know the answer and then to investigate what the answer is.

I enjoy mentally replacing the word "religion" with mediocrity.

This is about the 48th time i've seen this

[–]OKImHere 1 point2 points ago

This one AGAIN?!?! Do you people specifically search these things out to repost? Look, it's a simple rule. If you've seen it before, don't post it again. If you haven't made it yourself, don't post it. Got it? Good.

Really? because it seems to me that knowingly posting recycled material and watering-down the quality of the community for the sake of fake points is more akin to what's wrong with the internet

This is THE most posted quote on this subreddit. There is NOTHING you can say that will make me believe you. You're scum.

[–]OKImHere -1 points0 points ago

I wish! But I can't rest until all reposters feel bad.

Why would anyone think religion does that? Even the Catholic church believes in evolution.

The greatest scientists in history, including Newton, Babbage, Faraday, Kepler, Galileo, have all been Christian. There is nothing inherent in Christianity that makes it anti-science.

Islam, on the other hand...

[–]God_is_an_Astronaut 1 point2 points ago

There is nothing inherent in Christianity that makes it anti-science.

dogma [ˈdɒgmə]

1. (Christian Religious Writings / Theology) a religious doctrine or system of doctrines proclaimed
by ecclesiastical authority as true.

This is the very antithesis of science.

EDIT: Just noticed you included Galileo in your famous Christian scientists list... thanks for the laugh.

You are a retard. Check your sources and see what happened to those "christians" you mentioned at the hand of the Church. Also read about the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Again.. you are a retard. And let's not even start on the ridiculous insinuation about the contributions of the arabic/islamic to science because you would be.... more of a retard. Go read a fucking book because there is not enough TP for the shit that is coming out of your mouth.

Did a pretty good job until the Europeans came

????

Citation needed. The Arabian peninsula's time as a productive and fruitful society lasted about two centuries. That's it. Before and after they produced nothing of any significance.

[–]wm3166 0 points1 point ago

Okay, first Google result is http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/2010/feb/01/islamic-science And Wikipedia with links to several different areas http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamic_Golden_Age

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points ago

Wow you're dumber than I thought.

Your first link lists 6 inventions in 600 years. Do you think that is impressive? Also, did you even read your own link? One "invention" is a reproduction and another is a map. Your link proves my point. Which is why you should actually read some books on the topic instead of just googling the result you want and posting random links.

Your second link talks in vague terms about a Golden Age in a few hundred words. What, specifically, do you think that proves?

The problem with you atheists is that you're so ignorant of history that when you meet someone who knows more than you, you get horrifically embarrassed. Dude, your claim is plain wrong. You could concede the point. You could ignore it. But you doubled down because you are really that clueless.

I'm serious when I say they had a good period of 200 years-ish and that's it. Claims to the contrary are simply wrong. Please do some more reading on the topic. Your level of knowledge is just embarrassing.

[–]wm3166 3 points4 points ago

If you want a hard copy of a source then I guess you're out of luck because unfortunately I have not yet learned how to transfer hard copies of books over the Internet without scanning each individual page. Anyway, so if I list a small proportion of a large volume of material does that mean the rest of the material does not count? If I make a list of the top 5 scientists does that mean that no other scientists exists and our entire society should be based on the work of 5 scientists? Also, what's wrong with a reproduction and a map? I suppose the original map would have been slightly more impressive but I don't think that detracts from the point. And I guess I didn't imply clearly enough that the Wikipedia page was meant as a hub to link to other articles as well as to external sources. If you would like me to link individually to every single page on Wikipedia that details Islamic innovations then I would be glad to. I would also like to see any sources or information you have to demonstrate your level of knowledge. I see no indication of any level of intelligence in the post above, nor do I see any evidence that I am ignorant of history, nor any evidence that I am dumber than you think, nor any evidence that I am "horrifically embarrassed" nor do I see how I have "doubled down" because I am "clueless". If I truly have to search the Internet to find more examples because you can claim for anything "This isn't significant" or "This isn't enough" or if you refuse to look within your own hard sources (which if you claim to informed then you must have) than I will be extremely disappointed.

Can we add a rule that says: You know that one Dawkins quote? Yeah so do we, don't feel the need to post it.

[–]CoyoteStark 0 points1 point ago

Big talk coming from a fucking wall.

[–]Atomicide 0 points1 point ago

I am against the use of this quote because it teaches us to be satisfied with using old quotes from other people, instead of coming up with new and interesting arguments and ideas of our own.

[–]llamaman27 0 points1 point ago
