Up vote for you because I have that small heart attack every day at seven eleven.

[–]alcakd 4 points5 points ago

Out of curiosity, if you're near broke, why are you buying stuff from seven-eleven?

Wouldn't it make more sense to buy in bulk (like at a supermarket or Costco or something) as opposed to a convenience store (where things are way more costly)?

[–]bwill323 11 points12 points ago

If you're near broke you can't afford to buy in bulk. Sure bulk is cheaper, in the long run, but in order to buy a lot of stuff (bulk) you have to have a lot of money.

I'm making about $70 a week and last year I was doing fine because I owned a fully functional kitchen and a deep freeze. I would buy in bulk, cook everything in one day, portion my meals into cheap tuppaware, freeze it, and just defrost 3 days worth of food at a time, I was eating for about $15 a week, and I had enough storage in the house to buy bulk toiletries and household items 4 times a year and just live off that.

Now I live in a tiny loft, with nothing but a bar-fridge and a toaster oven. No microwave and no kitchen sink (I use the bathroom sink)

It is so much more expensive because I feel forced to live meal-meal and i'm not planning ahead.

Though farmers markets are a life saver, I go at about 2pm, just before closing and get the cheapest of cheap fruits and veggies.

like at a supermarket

Obviously, it is not about bulk.

[–]bwill323 1 point2 points ago

There were two points in "alcakd"'s comment, one was to buy in bulk, the other to buy where things aren't as marked up. So, yes, it is about bulk.

I don't know about this guy but when I was living in my dorm as a freshman, the nearest actual grocery/department store was 15 minutes away on an unreliable city bus. Not worth it for a Dr. Pepper when a Village Pantry was across the street and the Campus Stores were super expensive.

[–]IOmNommedUrMom 0 points1 point ago

They have a 75 big gulp that I get before my shift and I get a city discount for it.

[–]alcakd 0 points1 point ago

Er, what's a 75 big gulp? And what's a city discount?

Either way, it seems like it'd still be cheaper to buy a pack of 2L bottles and just pour yourself a glass or two before you leave for work.

[–]azncell05 17 points18 points ago

but then you get a letter, "OVER-DRAFTED" $25 fee -_-

[–]Puddindoobop 2 points3 points ago

25? It's 35 for me now, and since I didn't fix it within a week they tacked on another 35. Considering I live down to the dollar, this is fucking debilitating.

[–]anthony_man 2 points3 points ago

Sounds like Bank Of America, I'd give em up but those ATM deposits are so damn convenient.

[–]Puddindoobop 1 point2 points ago

bingo.

[–]turkeybiscuits 0 points1 point ago

I believe BOA has the option to remove overdraft. You just gotta ask.

[–]anthony_man 0 points1 point ago

actually what happens is they just wont spot u the balance, and theyll still give you a 35 dollar overdraft fee.

[–]GMBeats95 0 points1 point ago

Same thing with TD bank

[–]ElricG 0 points1 point ago

36 for me. Regions.

[–]atypical_eloi 0 points1 point ago

i switched to a credit union and now I just get declined if I try to make a purchase that will put me over. it makes it easier in some ways

[–]Puddindoobop 0 points1 point ago

I tried to set that up with BofA but they wouldn't have any of it. Credit union is top of my list.

[–]CCWManders 0 points1 point ago

Try Ally. I've overdrafted and it was a $9 fee. One time I overdrafted (thanks to being unemployed), they automatically waived the fee and pretty much said sorry that my account overdrafted.

[–]HogwartsNeedsWifi 0 points1 point ago

I once had about 500 dollars plus in overdraft fees. Why? Because for however long I was overdrafted for, I was buying an 1.25 soda every day. Jones. That turned it into a 26.25$ soda. I was not a happy camper.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points ago

Dat feel when you get to swallow that lump out of your throat.

[–]AnnuitCoeptis 3 points4 points ago

Imgur mirror for those who don't want to download this GIF one frame at a time.

[–]mechy84 1 point2 points ago

I guess keeping better track of your balance is less important than the threat of an overdraft fee.

Oh wait, predatory banking practices and stuff...

[–]MinimalisticGlutton 1 point2 points ago

Dude (or dudette).... overdrafting is a big deal.

Banks can report you for it and your credit will be affected--it could stop you from opening a new account in ANY bank, since they all use the same credit checking.

tl;dr Cut that shit out

[–]WaffleTitties 0 points1 point ago

This is perfect.

[–]Macbethdvs 0 points1 point ago

this is an old reddit sentiment

[–]wojovox 0 points1 point ago

As a broke college student too, it's tough to watch Tiger woods make the amount he does smacking balls into holes.

[–]blackknightxiv 0 points1 point ago

Budgeting help: Get some!

Seriously, don't start your life broke like I did. It ain't fun.

[–]renny7 0 points1 point ago

One times I was negative over $300 for less than $50 in total withdraws. It was quite ridiculous, but somehow I got them to magically waive it all and put my account at 0. Now that National City switched to PNC my card is declined if I don't have enough money in my account when it is swiped.

[–]itsatomic 0 points1 point ago

I always think it's a game >.> and I tend to lose... almost every time

[–]afunnytool 0 points1 point ago

Even though I never went to college, I know the feeling. Upvote!

[–]Wellseen 0 points1 point ago

Can anyone tell me what Tournament this is from?

[–]elcapitan29 -2 points-1 points ago

[–]THE_CENTURION 2 points3 points ago

I'm not sure you understand the situation...

[–]elcapitan29 0 points1 point ago

oh no I totally do, I'm broke as fuck too. It just reminded me of that skit

[–]epmca 1 point2 points ago

i'm going to upvote you out of the karma hole because I think there was confusion over whether you were mistaking debit cards for credit cards, but it looks like you weren't. on top of that, i think that's a pretty funny skit. up you go!

[–]henderson_hasselhoff -1 points0 points ago

This gif gets me every time. I will always upvote

[–]kjj1988 -3 points-2 points ago

As an ex-broke college student I can assure you, this feeling does not go away.

[–]sgtpppr 8 points9 points ago

It does if you actually manage your finances and know how much money you have before you buy things.

[–]textgenerator 4 points5 points ago

This. There is a difference between being broke and being financially irresponsible.
