I feel like with all the buildup throughout the whole game, it'd be kind of wrong not to use your legendary to fight N's.

[–]shmixel 26 points27 points ago

Great, now I'm sad that I didn't. I missed out on a climactic dragon vs. dragon battle.

[–]tehminky 42 points43 points ago

its kinda funny, most of the time N uses the signature move of the dragon (fusion bolt, fusion flare), which is not very effective, and you are like LOL dragonbreath gg! not very climactic

[–]Lintybl 17 points18 points ago

it was kind of cool that if you used your signature move back though it would be a powered up version.

[–]tehminky 9 points10 points ago

true, it doubles the power right? so 100 base power x2, but then x1/2 because of not very effective. dragonbreath would be 60 base power x2 for super effective, so dragonbreath would still be the more powerful attack right?

fusion bolt / flare = 100 x 2 x 1/2 = 100

dragonbreath = 60 x 2 = 120

[–]pananan 13 points14 points ago

Counting STAB modifiers of 1.5x, Fusion Bolt/Flare would come out with a BP of 150 and dragonbreath would get 180. Dragonbreath is still the better choice.

[–]IstheCakeReallyaLie 7 points8 points ago

However, Zekrom has higher attack, thus making Fusion Bolt the better move.

[–]ccoff1798 2 points3 points ago

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't fusion bolt a special attack move?

Edit: thanks for telling me. I had black version so I didn't have zekrom

It's physical.

C-c-ccombobreaker!

[–]GahLant 4 points5 points ago

It's physical.

[–]tehminky 0 points1 point ago

oh yeah both are STAB moves, forgot about that!

[–]Lintybl 4 points5 points ago

nothing to do with it actually being better, the different graphical effect was a neat addition.

[–]awoh 0 points1 point ago

I used my Krookodile against Reshiram. Don't feel so left out

[–]shmixel 0 points1 point ago

Me too, and I fucking love him.

[–]awoh 0 points1 point ago

I wish mine had moxie, though. By the time I figured out what it is, my bond with Krookodile was too strong, so I couldn't just give him up and catch a new one

[–]shmixel 0 points1 point ago

I was actually trying to get the other ability, but I'm glad I stuck with moxie. That glutonous feeling of their losses feeding my monster croc's strength is intoxicating. (Not to rub it in or anything). Bru is my favourite catch of Black, hands down.

What did your movepool look like?

[–]awoh -1 points0 points ago

I had Crunch, Earthquake, Outrage and Shadow Claw. I used to have sludge bomb but I replaced it with Outrage. Shadow Claw was used just because I had the TM and didn't really know what else to give him. I don't play online, so it was enough to do the main story. Heck, I wouldn't have even been able to beat the E4 without him. He pretty much swept the psychic lady and half the ghost lady. What was your moveset?

[–]stainedrose 5 points6 points ago

that's true! i am happy that they DON'T give you a legendary before the Elite Four, because it makes me feel that i actually beat them with my own skill :D

[–]xuanxuan 12 points13 points ago

Only Cobalion, Terrakion, Virizion and Tornadus/Thundurus...

[–]stainedrose 0 points1 point ago

in my defense i didn't know >.>

[–]mmmmbreakfast 0 points1 point ago

I managed to get my Volcarona before the Elite Four.

[–]bonerjohnson 7 points8 points ago

Volcarona is not legendary.

From Bulbapedia

Volcarona is the last non-legendary Pokémon in the National Pokédex, also making it the last Pokémon that evolves from another Pokémon.

[–]esw116 4 points5 points ago

Friggin love my Volcarona.

[–]Icalasari 1 point2 points ago

My Larvesta got OHKO'd with a critical dragon claw when at full health :<

Nuzlocke challenges are brutal sometimes

[–]esw116 0 points1 point ago

I wouldn't put them up against a physical attacker unless I knew they'd get the jump. Larvesta/Volcarona have excellent special stats, but terrible physical stats. I never even battled with Larvesta. Exp. shared all the way from 1 to 59.

[–]Icalasari 1 point2 points ago

Actually, Larvesta has crap special but good physical from what I could see

Anyways, my problem was that it was a blind(ish) nuzlocke run, so for all I knew Pokemon like Sawk could be grass/fire types with an ability that causes it to explode if hit with a physical attack

So I wasn't expecting "Wild Druddigon used ImmaSlaughterYou!"

On that note, lost my Zoroark to a Scraggy because I didn't expect the little shit to know hi jump kick (how the hell does it manage to not trip...?)

Oh, also lost my Krookodile (gal had been with me since before Elesa) because she was fast enough to take out Bianca's Samurott (and was doing prettu well against it) so I didn't switch out

Too bad it apparently knew Aqua Jet and Bianca waited until it would be a guaranteed KO to use it >.<

[–]TellThemYutesItsOver 0 points1 point ago

Can you please explain what a blind nuzlocke is

[–]mmmmbreakfast 1 point2 points ago

Woop, my bad. Forgot it wasn't! It's always just looked like one to me.

[–]GalacticNexus 3 points4 points ago

Yeah, that was the one and only time since my first playthrough of Diamond that I used a legendary.

[–]R99 1 point2 points ago

Wait... you can get a legendary before the Elite Four???

[–]bigbadderfdog 0 points1 point ago

3 actually. Terrakion, Cobalion, and Virizion. Also, you can technically get Victini if you downloaded the liberty ticket when it was available.

[–]R99 0 points1 point ago

Thank you.

[–]UnholyDemigod 13 points14 points ago

This is how I beat the Elite 4 the first time. My first pokemon game was Yellow, and I was fucking terrible. I was so fucking bad at it. By the time I got the Elite 4, my team was so fucking shit I was attempting to use L36 Nidorans I caught at the Safari Zone because I was that desperate. I ended up grinding a bit at Seafoam Islands, found Articuno, saved it beforehand (I was too stupid to do so for Zapdos and Moltres), caught him, went back to the E4, managed to get through to Lance, somehow managed to beat him thanks to Articuno, then came fucking Gary (I nearly fucking cried when he said there was another challenger to face). It took me so fucking many attempts to beat him. I only had 3 left alive on my team: Articuno, Gengar and someone else I can't remember. I finally somehow managed to get down to his Vaporeon, used Gengar's Explosion, and finished it off with Articuno. When it fainted and the victory music started playing, tears of joy were had.

[–]thelcusi 12 points13 points ago

Did this with Rayquaza in Emerald! :D

[–]bodnast 2 points3 points ago

So did I! It gained like 7 levels in the entire e4 challenge

[–]rid11er 1 point2 points ago

Most of us had to Me mostly since i picked mudkip and alot of water pokemon

[–]fragh -4 points-3 points ago

Trained up a hydriegon and did that too.... I felt like a big fat phony afterwards because he ended up being lvl 99 by the end of the elite 4....

[–]averyisavillian 1 point2 points ago

So did I! Drake was a piece of cake

[–]THEREFOREiEXIST 0 points1 point ago

Swampert and Ice Beam all day long.

[–]anibal1223 0 points1 point ago

I required no legendaries to win that battle!....just a level 61 salamence.

[–]TenRobots 4 points5 points ago

So, a pretty good legendary.

[–]averyisavillian 0 points1 point ago

So you used a psudo legendary

[–]anibal1223 0 points1 point ago

That's the joke.

[–]Yoshi174 1 point2 points ago

I'm replaying heartgold and platinum now. I've been using a team of my 6 favorites from each gen and you really get a good feeling after all the grinding.

[–]Rival_Blue 8 points9 points ago

Smell ya in Cinnabar.

[–]GDarkwolf 0 points1 point ago

I still can't beat Lt. Surge. That's the problem with capturing mostly water types...

[–]THEREFOREiEXIST -1 points0 points ago

Swampert's water AND ground.

[–]Graemathorn 0 points1 point ago

Replaying HeartGold and SoulSilver is all I do anymore. I play them with pokemon traded and I make crazy teams with pokemon I've never used before.

[–]Poke-lord 7 points8 points ago

I don't see much wrong with using Legendaries TBH. Some non-legendary Pokemon are stronger than them anyway.

[–]Ratiqu 7 points8 points ago

In specific stats, yes, but short of the dragons you'll rarely get a better spread across the board.

[–]lysflatheaven 0 points1 point ago

probably because of the lack of EVs on the legendary which was just caught

[–]Poke-lord 0 points1 point ago

I meant BST not IV's.

[–]doedipus 0 points1 point ago

don't you mean EVs?

[–]SpaceHaven 0 points1 point ago

EVs, effort values, are points that go towards a certain stat after you beat a Pokémon.

IVs, individual values, are hidden stats ranging from 0 to 31 (31 being the best) that determine the strength of that stat and cannot be changed.

This is why two Dragonite at level 100, both with the same EV training, can have different stats.

[–]doedipus 0 points1 point ago

you'll notice that lysflatheaven edited his post. when I commented, he said IVs instead of EVs, and I was correcting him.

[–]SpaceHaven 0 points1 point ago

Ah, I see it now. My mistake.

[–]doedipus 0 points1 point ago

reddit can be full of tricksy hobitses sometimes.

[–]rfp_drew 1 point2 points ago

I feel the same way when you beat blue or red using the missingo cheat for rare candies.

[–]TheMagicStik 1 point2 points ago

Well unless you were a bitch and used a masterball for a static legendary, be proud that you get to crush them with the legendary it took you like 900 balls to catch.

[–]superdookieness 0 points1 point ago

I had a pretty powerful team on Pearl so I made it through the Elite 4 easy, but Cynthia's Garchomp was an asshole. So I waited for Toys R Us to give out Arceus.

That Garchomp was OHKO'd thanks to the Draco Plate.

[–]awoh -1 points0 points ago

No ice beam?

[–]superdookieness 0 points1 point ago

I didn't have thew TM for it.

[–]R99 0 points1 point ago

Isn't the only time you can get a high level legendary before the E4 in Emerald?

[–]bigbadderfdog 1 point2 points ago

No. Ruby, Saphire, Platinum, Black, White. I don't know about Diamond and Pearl, I never played them.

[–]choosery 1 point2 points ago

Box Legendary and the Emotion trio can be caught before the Elite Four in D/P. Bird trio can be caught in FR/LG, and the Box Legend and the Dogs/Cats/Beasts can be caught in HG/SS.

[–]DuBiiNz89 0 points1 point ago

I would love to up vote this but as I'm commenting on this it has 1000 upvotes and I don't want to ruin the balance... Sorry:/

[–]esw116 0 points1 point ago

I didn't use zekrom a lot because it had a shitty nature and I forgot to reset if I didn't like it. But I still probably wouldn't use it. Feels cheap.

[–]Lexy_Avocado 0 points1 point ago

I don't think you can reset for its nature anyway… you can't check its nature till after you finish battling N/Ghetsis and then it saves the game and plops you back in Nuvena

[–]mmm_aj -2 points-1 points ago

I managed to beat N legitimately, but I just couldn't take Ghetsis legit. Most of my team was KO'd after N, and it wasn't fair to have to fight Ghetsis's team with only 2-3 Pokes. So I whooped him with the event Arceus. It was not satisfying. :<

[–]MH_Poop 1 point2 points ago

N heals your pokemon...

[–]mmm_aj -1 points0 points ago

Before you fight him yes, but not before you fight Ghetsis. I got my ass kicked around 7 times with half my party KOd before giving up.

[–]lawlbrawl -3 points-2 points ago

Black 2/White 2 only lets you catch the musketeers before the E4 I think, so I ended up just using my team of favorites to beat them. Twice. Best feeling ever.

[–]SuperBob-Omb64 0 points1 point ago

Is that true, because if it is, pput a spoiler tag on it.

[–]TDI_LOVER -2 points-1 points ago

Lol Stephen Colbert is really funny
