Let's think about this: You and I might be frequent lurkers, but most of the people who upvote are a random, revolving set of people who have no idea what's been posted yesterday, last week, last month, etc.

On top of that, either of us could upvote something the other has seen even if we're here with the same frequency. Things like that happen.

Reposts are inevitably going to be made popular, and by the time they hit front page, we can all contribute to the problem without even knowing. It's inevitable, the only solution would be blocking reposts for specific people.
