It's OK- I left a strongly worded post on BOTH DirectV and Viacom's Facebook page. This should all be sorted out in the morning.

[–]sfoxy 59 points60 points ago

I'm going to go like it right now!

[–]insertAlias 14 points15 points ago

You know, I never even thought about looking at these companies' facebook pages. The facebook commenters seem to be strongly in favor of DirecTV here. Either that, or they have a better social media team.

[–]theimpolitegentleman 1 point2 points ago

They're Lowering people's bills if they call.

Id say that's why people aren't bashing directv like they are with Viacom

[–]wesman212 5 points6 points ago

I tweeted both sides with several hashtags, so it is fixed now. Please leave my consumer protection award in my in tray.

[–]boredatwork920 4 points5 points ago

like dis if you agree lol!

[–]deleted_the_other 88 points89 points ago

This happened with Viacom and Dish Network (EchoStar) back in 2004

Viacom had a dispute with TimeWarner in 2009.

Viacom was also the company responsible for sending 100,000 DMCA takedown notices to YouTube

Since Viacom is the common denominator, I suspect they are the bad guys.

[–]The_warc0w 9 points10 points ago

And to top it off they Pulled full episodes

[–]kuiper3 4 points5 points ago

Pirating will live on.

[–]Whitey90 3 points4 points ago

Ya, fuck Viacom

[–]borno23 555 points556 points ago

I love how he takes off his shirt first.

[–]irrelevant_spiderman 580 points581 points ago

You would.

[–]dingofarmer2004 167 points168 points ago

Excellent strike! He really has impressed the crowd today! What a performance from irrelevant_spiderman.

[–]Kristastic 46 points47 points ago

For more, we take you down to the field with the details from Moe. Moe!

[–]we_all_had_ponies 33 points34 points ago

I'm here with the man of the hour, irrelevant_spiderman, would you like to say a few words?

Nope!

Alright, that's it from down here, back to you upstairs!

[–]RuafaolGaiscioch 22 points23 points ago

My girlfriend is listening to Not Fair by Lily Allen and holy shit this gif matches up perfectly. I am dying right now laughing.

[–]guitarpsycho182 32 points33 points ago

Your girlfriend... Right.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

HEY EVERYONE--oh fuck it

[–]memeaddictedchick 1 point2 points ago

Beginning of the chorus "there's just one thing that's getting in the way. When we go up to bed you're just no good it's such a shame."..I think she may be trying to tell you something.

[–]RuafaolGaiscioch 1 point2 points ago

She might be. I doubt it though, I am quite secure in our sex life, I'm pretty sure it's in reference to her exes. If you doubt, check out our gonewild posts.

[–]franknferter 1 point2 points ago

That outfit...I want

[–]jenchan13 10 points11 points ago

Oh my that's hot. It's so hot I might say something sexist.

[–]jenchan13 11 points12 points ago

Oh my god, he's so hot he's making me sexist.

[–]not_legally_rape 4 points5 points ago

Bitch.

[–]Holyburrito 2 points3 points ago

I need my 1987, Casio electric guitar, set to mandolin.

[–]gunhorseunlimited 7 points8 points ago

Is that...is that jizz, on his shirt?

[–]I_slap_racist_faces 0 points1 point ago

time for the lonely island song sequel, then

[–]CONGART 1 point2 points ago

Suddenly I want to watch Flight of the Concords for admittedly the first time ever.

[–]FreshFruitCup 1 point2 points ago

How can he slap!?!?!?!?!

[–]ubermalark 101 points102 points ago

If you are wearing a baggy shirt taking it off before getting into a fight might be a good idea. Loose clothing could be a liability.

Source: All the pussy ass kids I beat up on a daily basis.

Real Source: I am kind of lanky and would more than likely get my ass kicked. It just seems like a good idea.

EDIT: extra word deleted

[–]cawncawn 20 points21 points ago

Thanks for being honest.

[–]BCP27 7 points8 points ago

Actually true. It gives people handles to grab. That is why a gi is worn in Judo and Jiu-Jitsu. Some BJJ is no gi now, but that is mainly for sport. Gi BJJ is more practical given the fact that most people wear clothes.

[–]LostOne87 1 point2 points ago

As someone that has trained in Muay Thai and Aikido, a Gi is worn for practical purposes (when people grab you repeatedly during practice, it diminishes the skin abrasions you suffer) and for the purpose of historical customs. In a street fight, some tighter clothing is preferred to nothing, while a loose "Eminem-style" shirt can easily be wrapped over your head, pretty much leading to a severe ass-kicking.

Most street fights are over quickly, either because they are not meant to be fair and/or because few people are trained. Animal, base instincts take over and even some trained fighters can devolve into apes. Sport fighting, aka, boxing, wrestling, and MMA, which revolve around points and NOT attacking vital bodyparts falsely trained individuals with a sort of hubris that leads to more personal injury than self preservation.

No situation can truly train one for an unexpected fight. However, if you can recover from a slap such as this, regain composure, center and ground, you can 'win.' On the street or in a bar, it's about having a few split seconds advance and realizing it is about self preservation, control and that you life may be in danger, not about 'being MR. nice guy'. You end the confrontation, so you go for the balls/groin, eyes, ears, back of the neck and soft spots. Believe there is ALWAYS someone bigger, faster and stronger; the best offense is a strong defense.

Most commonly, people will try to confront brute force with brute force, but in a street fight it's about using that against the aggresor and maintaining ground so you are able to defend yourself. Hitting the ground first or losing control leads to mistakes, injuries (Possibly permanent) and potentially death. Youtube fights and animal instincts make fighter, particularly men, think you confront such situations head-on. You don't. Trained, composed martial artists use what you give them against you. Period.

Heck I've fought wrestlers, not at my discretion, but because during HS it is a form of fighting that is provided and sanctioned by the school system. Yet, wrestling inevitably leads one VERY open to serious damage. Sport fighting will get you injured or killed on the streets b/c you do not have a judge or team to stop you.

[–]cjhazza 3 points4 points ago

This is why I often wear the Eastern European uniform, tight black wifebeater, tracksuit pants, running shoes. Lightweight and really easy to run, kick and punch in.

[–]callmeRichard 21 points22 points ago

That's completely staged.

[–]Blakestoned 4 points5 points ago

You can see an extra camera man behind them in the background.

[–]poopyfarts 11 points12 points ago

yeah interesting how people debate over stuff in obviously staged videos. I've never seen a man fly out of his chair and into the ground after being slapped.

[–]iamadogforreal 12 points13 points ago

You know, tough teens are always taking off their shirts and slapping each other. Its a totally normal and straight thing to do. Totally not sexual.

[–]k9m9 1 point2 points ago

And totally not a pussy way to fight

[–]deeznutz12 1 point2 points ago

My whole life is a lie.

[–]omni_wisdumb 32 points33 points ago

I like how he did that to seem like a badass then proceeds to SLAP the crap out of the kid.

[–]Feb_29_Guy 19 points20 points ago

Slaps are better for not harming your own hand on the hit. Open palm punches are devastating, because you can deliver maximum force with minimum damage to yourself. Your knuckles are surprisingly fragile.

[–]AndyYankee17 2 points3 points ago

You grab two big rocks the size of grapefruit. Weigh more than brass knuckles, do as much damage as brass knuckles, but can be thrown away and not recovered as evidence.

[–]iburnchildren 2 points3 points ago

Or instead of carrying two giant rocks around with you, you can use the space to carry a grenade launcher instead and blast the aggressor along with any potential witnesses.

Seriously, why would you have 2 giant rocks just lying around. Are you fighting in a quarry or what?

[–]Digital_Jedi 2 points3 points ago

You mean you don't fight in quarry? It's the field of honour, man!

[–]Feb_29_Guy 5 points6 points ago

Or you could just throw the rocks. A good overarm fling can do much more damage than a punch.

[–][deleted] 32 points33 points ago

I have seen a couple of videos where the person being pranked takes their shirt off before hitting someone. Do they teach you that in America? That you must first remove shirt before physically making contact with a man?

[–]TehMerc 96 points97 points ago

Your opponent could pull your shirt up to constrict your movement, or use it to pull you around.

[–]Mixed-Signals 93 points94 points ago

This is the correct answer.

Or, he turns into wolf form next and wants to save his shirt.

[–]goddamnitdan 5 points6 points ago

or the hulk

[–]UndeadMessenger 39 points40 points ago

He could do the same with my chest hair, which is why I rip that off too.

[–]ZeroNihilist 17 points18 points ago

He could do it with any hair dude. To be safe you'd better pull it all out while alternately screaming, sobbing, and throwing the clumps on the ground.

[–]TrackerF16 15 points16 points ago

Quickest way to stop a fight I can think of

[–]ZeroNihilist 1 point2 points ago

Have you tried singing Bohemian Rhapsody?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

Nobody wants to fight a naked guy. Especially one with no pubes.

[–]FredFnord 8 points9 points ago

That, coupled with my misreading of your username as 'undead massager', painted a very odd picture.

[–]HiveMindZombie 1 point2 points ago

That's just kinky and, like a lot of kinky things, kinda disturbing, too. But I like it; that's my next move when I find myself in that kind of situation again.

[–]dego_frank 23 points24 points ago

I have been hockey shirted in a fight before. Bitch move.

[–]firstcity_thirdcoast 14 points15 points ago

Haven't you seen Mighty Ducks? It's:

  • Stick
  • Gloves
  • Shirt

It's in the manual.

[–]HearshotAtomDisaster 11 points12 points ago

If you saw Jackie Chan do this, you wouldn't think it was a "bitch move".

[–]dego_frank 1 point2 points ago

Yeah, when he's fighting twenty guys maybe. Even then it would be a bitch move since it's not a real fight.

[–]kiragami[!] 21 points22 points ago

No such things as bitch moves in a fight.

[–]Princeps12 12 points13 points ago

unless of course it devolves into a slap-fight

[–]heyitsstevefrench 9 points10 points ago

You haven't had your hair pulled during a fight then. That is a bitch move.

[–]color_thine_fate 7 points8 points ago

Hey if you didn't want your hair pulled, you shouldn't have banged my girlfriend.

[–]OneRandomOtaku 28 points29 points ago

The only bitch move in a fight is losing.

[–]Reingding13 12 points13 points ago

This is fact. There is nothing off limits in an actual fight. I was a bouncer for a while in college and if it ever came to blows, you went straight for nuts and eyes.

[–]OneRandomOtaku 18 points19 points ago

Yeah, I've been in my fair share of scraps and if anybody thinks that they're gonna do that whole "fight with honor" bullshit they're in for trouble. As soon as you start fighting your opponent's friends will jump in if they're present, they'll use weapons, everything from your eyes and throat down to your balls become targets and Jackie Chan help you if you get floored 'cause you're definitely gonna take a kick in the head; maybe even a few kicks just in the time it takes you to scramble to your feet; assuming you can get to your feet that is. People need to realize that fighting isn't nice, it's hard, brutal, bloody and exhausting. It never looks like the movies, it's two people smashing each and every limb they can throw off of their opponent like animals and truth be told, that's exactly how it feels in a fight too. You're not human, you're running on basic instincts and adrenaline. You don't have a second to think because if you do stop to try and think about your next move, you've lost. Fighting isn't fair simply because you're not fighting out of some competitive spirit or some shit, you fight because you hate the person you're fighting and you want to hurt them. Why be fair to somebody you hate? Especially if they're not going to be fair to you, and let's be serious here; they won't be fair to you.

[–]heyitsstevefrench 4 points5 points ago

Of course that noble shit doesn't work. In my fights I've been in (I've only been in a few, but they were brawls nonetheless) my only goal is to knock the motherfucker out. Not kick him in the nuts, or pull his hair, or any of those things. I'm sure if I'm in a life threatening situation that will change, but I wasn't talking about that.

I do agree with everything you said, however. I just haven't got into a fight that's gotten to the point where it gets that intense that I have to do whatever to get out of it. With the fights I've been in my thought process was, "Aim for the face, knock him out." Nothing more, nothing less.

[–]imbrizzle 2 points3 points ago

Nice try, Mike Tyson.

[–]kiragami[!] 2 points3 points ago

It is a fight. There is nothing noble about it.

[–]SelectaRx 1 point2 points ago

Fishooking. Nearly happened to me. Took about all I had to quit punching his stupid face in once I finally got him to the ground. Nearly did some serious damage there.

[–]ElKaBongX -1 points0 points ago

Having hair long enough to pull in a fight is a bitch move

[–]heyitsstevefrench 0 points1 point ago

So you keep your head shaved at all times is what your telling me?

[–]Ifriendzonecats 5 points6 points ago

Not just constrict your movements, but also restrict your ability to see as the shirt covers your face.

[–]frankhorriganlovesto 1 point2 points ago

There is actually several martial arts moves involving Gi chokes and other holds in clothing you need to either protect yourself on or use on others. Removing your shirt ensures that you don't have a great hand hold on the upper body.

[–]AsadM107 17 points18 points ago

It is the law that you must first take off your shirt to show off your abs before giving the girliest slap every performed.

[–]Huge-oChiefvez 7 points8 points ago

This reminds me of a story my dad told me growing up. There was a big kid several years older than him who was always picking on him in middle school. My dad was eventually cornered into a fight with the bully, and as the kid was taking his sweatshirt off, my dad attacked. He said the kid had his shirt stuck over his head, so he just beat the shit out of him. Bitch move, perhaps, but the guy left him alone afterwards.

[–]compto35[!] 16 points17 points ago

Ever see a hockey fight? Shirts are 360º handles for your person that an assailant can use to manipulate your movements

[–]etrtr 4 points5 points ago

the shirt coming off is supposed to show he's tough; the open hand slap implies he watches twilight.

[–]mbrodge 1 point2 points ago

Don't tell anyone, but we men started this trend a few years ago when we started hearing news stories about girls becoming more violent.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

Well then, well played Sir :)

[–]borno23 1 point2 points ago

I have no idea why he did this. I just think its hilarious.

[–]zaffle 2 points3 points ago

It's a cultural thing. It depends where you grow up, and how you are raised. Not racist, a cultural thing. I've seen a few different cultures where they do it, I've also seen ones where if you take off your shirt, you're just giving the other guy more than enough time to put you on the ground.

I certainly appreciate it around here. If a Samoan takes off his shirt, he's giving you a warning, you better get gone before the shirt hits the ground, or you gonna be in for a world of hurt.

[–]NachoBabyDaddy 1 point2 points ago

That's how you know which team you're on in the hood.

[–]woelff 65 points66 points ago

Can somebody explain this who Viacom/DirectTV stuff to me? I have Dish and don't have a clue as to what is going on.

[–]IamSparticles 108 points109 points ago

DirecTV and Viacom are having a pissing match over their contract re-negotiation, with the result that Viacom has temporarily switched off all their channel feeds to DirecTV. That includes channels such as MTV, Nickelodeon, and Comedy Central, among others. Both parties are doing their best to blame the other for the inconvenience to customers.

As a DirecTV customer, if I tune into any of those channels right now, all I get is a continuously repeating message from the DirecTV CEO telling me it's that big, nasty Viacom's fault. All they were trying to do was save me money on my monthly bill.

[–]hurrpancakes 96 points97 points ago

Don't forget that after DirecTV directed their customers to online sources for shows like the Daily Show, Viacom took new episodes down from there as well.

[–]Connor598 17 points18 points ago

They also took down all 3 seasons of Avatar: The Last Airbender on nick.com. So now Viacom is starting to be a douce to even non-Direct TV viewers. Shameful.

[–]cuddles_the_destroye 2 points3 points ago

Even better, they're blaming DirectTV for this affair.

[–]Kchortu 1 point2 points ago

I am far more angry about this then anything else anyone has said in this thread or elsewhere.

[–]psmwrxguy 59 points60 points ago

As a former Viacom employee, I can confirm that they are the douche in this scenario. DirecTV is IMHO overpriced though. EDIT: added "IMHO" ... wasn't trying to criticize anyone that feels its worth it or depends on it.

[–]Chicken-n-Waffles 51 points52 points ago

Viacom charges for ads on those shows. It isn't DirecTV's responsibility to come up with extra cash that Viacom's crappy salespeople didn't to close the deal.

[–]justmadethisaccountt 33 points34 points ago

You are the only person who seems to understand that DirecTV shouldn't be paying them a fucking dime.

[–]Senor_Engineer 13 points14 points ago

As a DIRECTV employee, I can confirm that Viacom is not acting very nice.

[–]pornmonger 2 points3 points ago

Being as loads of people live outside cable/fiber service areas, DirectTV or Dish are their only options.

[–]Seelymike 8 points9 points ago

DirecTV being, in your opinion, overpriced, is irrelevant. We as consumers decide that. I decided that it was in fact a good value, and expect to see the channels that paid for when I entered a contract with them.

[–]therobotjeff 6 points7 points ago

This. I only watch about 10 hours of t.v. a week so I do sometimes feel like it's an expense I could live without, especially since I pay more for my directv than I would for a HULU and NetFlix account combined. Basically I just wen't from 10hrs of t.v. a week to about 5 because comedy central and AMC are 2 of the channels I watch. I am not happy.

[–]HaggarShoes 5 points6 points ago

On NBC nightly news the other night they said that Viacom actually wanted to continue their broadcasting during the negotations by temporarily extending their contract, but that DirecTV, in fact, said no to the deal (likely to leverage popular support for their resistance to the fee hike). Of course, no one is at all upset that, on average, ESPN is the most expensive show for a cable package to carry (last I heard it cost something like more than the most of the rest of the package combined). If DirecTV is saying that we shouldn't pay for channels we don't watch, they should start with that.

[–]DNAbro 52 points53 points ago

Viacom wanted 1$ billion more in order to keep the channels on Direct TV. I would put the blame on them.

[–]alanpugh 33 points34 points ago

And their justification is that "DirecTV will be making 5 billion in profit this year."

Apparently, they feel they're entitled to a full 20% of that profit.

[–]ckelley87 12 points13 points ago

Oh, what was Viacom's profit for fiscal year 2011? Just $3.7 Billion on $14.9 Billion in revenues.

Poor little ol' Viacom.

Edit: For comparison, DIRECTV's was $4.6 Billion through fiscal year 2011.

[–]bszollosi45 14 points15 points ago

What makes it worse is that they want that 20% of the profit on top of what they're already getting.

[–]IamSparticles 15 points16 points ago

They probably deserve the lion's share of blame, yes.

[–]Im_smarter_than_you 2 points3 points ago

Yes, but that is only a 30% increase on a price that has remained fixed for 7 years. If Viacom had increased their pricing by less than 4% a year, they would be charging more than they are asking now (plus they would have gotten extra 1.15 billion over that 7 years). This is really a very small price increase when you factor in inflation.

[–]Chicken-n-Waffles 3 points4 points ago

Then they should charge more for ads. It isn't like it costs more to distribute to DirecTV than it does Dish or Cable.

[–]BobbyRayBands 17 points18 points ago

You act like Viacom is the victim here. They wanted more money from DirectTV and they said no because that would have raised the prices for all its customers. Viacom is just being a greedy bastard right now.

[–]FredFnord 13 points14 points ago

Actually, while I don't disagree that Viacom is more at fault than DirecTV, 'that would have raised the prices for all its customers' is just as much company spin as any of the other statements.

DirecTV is making huge bank at this point. Their margins are extremely high. They could absorb this entire thing without raising prices one iota and still be making quite nice profits. So the only way you can justifiably say that DirecTV would 'have to' raise their prices is if you have some idea that DirecTV has the right to some particular level of profit, and anything below that is somehow unacceptable.

[–]LHX 7 points8 points ago

Wtf? Directv has 20 million customers. Even if they absorb just $1/month, that's $240 million/year. You think that's a trivial amount of money not worth fighting for?

Btw, Directv profit margin is inline with Comcast, Verizon, etc. and is LOWER than Viacom.

[–]nomdaweb 4 points5 points ago

Viacom stated that the contract would only cost pennies more per customer.

http://www.kctv5.com/story/18995641/directv

[–]insertAlias 3 points4 points ago

Yeah, well they're both going to spin it in a way that makes the other look bad. Viacom says it'll be cheap to the customer, DirecTV says they don't want to charge the customer any more at all. Both are greedy and unwilling to budge. I have to wonder, will Viacom lose enough money by having their shows off a provider to cave, or will they hold out long enough for DirecTV to lose enough subscribers to force their hand?

[–]jcroucher56 13 points14 points ago

Same thing is going on with AMC and Dish Network right now.

For all you Breaking Bad fans, the first episode will be streamed online by AMC. Other than that, sorry. :(

[–]foil-time 3 points4 points ago

Dish gave me a Roku and a discount on my monthly bill so I could get the episodes from Amazon.

[–]Vertigo666 8 points9 points ago

...They gave you Roku?

[–]RaveRaptor 3 points4 points ago

"Turn off MTV! That'll show 'em! How you gonna watch your Jersey Shore and Teen Moms now?!"

[–]Blue_Satellite 7 points8 points ago

To be fair, Viacom really is the bad guy in the situation. There isn't much blame to be put on DirecTV. D:

[–]justmadethisaccountt 4 points5 points ago

Apparently DirecTV has to pay Viacom, so Viacom can make money showing ads. I don't understand why Viacom deserves any money at all, considering they need DirecTV to show their fucking ads.

[–]foil-time 6 points7 points ago

Remember how Dish dropped AMC? Viacom/DirecTV, same thing different channels.

[–]the_looch 53 points54 points ago

I was watching an old Kenan & Kel episode on Nickelodeon one night. Halfway through the episode, Viacom pulled the plug. Didn't get to see the ending :(

[–]pinguino42 170 points171 points ago

Kel and Kenan forgive each other after humorously rectifying the situation.

[–]WhoWatchesTheWatcher 92 points93 points ago

Also, there was orange soda.

[–]OllieFool 34 points35 points ago

Kenan then came up with a preposterous scheme requiring unusual items which Kel couldn't comprehend, to which he eventually responded "AWWW, here it goes."

[–]thesagex 3 points4 points ago

but not before Kenan's sister tries to get Kel thrown in jail

[–]Time_for_Stories 4 points5 points ago

Kel then has a tantrum on the jail cell floor.

Then he starts walking the dinosaur.

[–]NopeFenrir 19 points20 points ago

Spoiler alert: Kel loves orange soda.

[–]Agent9262 10 points11 points ago

Who loves orange soda?

[–]Big_Fish79 10 points11 points ago

Everyone

[–]Satans_pro_tips 22 points23 points ago

I really like the 1930's movies style fall with the up-raised flailing arms. Nice retro stunt but needs work to make it believable for your next production.

[–]Wheat_Grinder 13 points14 points ago

Yelling at Satan, apparently.

Why are you on Reddit when you should be grinding my wheat!?

Unless you intend to finish the sentence begun in the title, it would be "me", not "I".

You didn't animate anything wrong, the words in the gif aren't a sentence, the words are there to identify the people in the gif.

[–]mista0sparkle 5 points6 points ago

It's the title the_red_scimitar is referring to, fortunately. Would really suck for OP if he boned up the GIF after the hard work he put in.

[–]mysticrudnin 8 points9 points ago

Why?

[–]firstfloor 29 points30 points ago

Because the complete sentence would be "Directtv, Viacom, and I walked into a bar." You use "I" here because you alone would say "I walked into a bar." In it's current form, as an incomplete sentence, the title is interpreted as a description or list of characters, and so should read "Directtv, Viacom, and me", just like you would title a picture of you alone "me".

[–]horus2979 14 points15 points ago

*its. (I only point this out because you're explaining grammar to someone else.)

[–]annjellicle 7 points8 points ago

Muphry's Law.

[–]firstfloor 7 points8 points ago

Agreed. That's iOS grammar.

[–]antoinebugleboy 1 point2 points ago

There's no reason to assume a title is part of a sentence. It's like saying, "It should be 'Went With the Wind'."

[–]GaijinFoot 1 point2 points ago

People have explained it to you but there is an easy way tell tell when to use it. Just change it to him/he.

What sounds more correct? "DirectTV, Viacom, and he." or "DirectTV, Viacom, and him" Now we can clearly see they are objects, not subjects.

[–]dime5150 4 points5 points ago

LOL good work. Except it wasn't exactly a cheap shot from Directv to viacom.

[–]celtic1888 18 points19 points ago

I just called Direct Tv to cancel. $130 a month and not getting Comedy Central was enough for me to switch to cable

After declining a few offers of showtime free, $5 off I ended up with $80 a month for a year.

If it wasn't for the wife I would go 100% streaming but I don't want to run a satellite tech support office

[–]IamDa5id 12 points13 points ago

Yeah,

This has always been my experience with DirectTv. They seem to genuinely bum out when you decide to cancel and will work hard to keep your business. I like that.

Besides... they put shit into space.

[–]horus2979 6 points7 points ago

I have Comcast and called to cancel (we were profitable - we used DVR, OnDemand movies, etc) and they just said, "Okay." I asked them if they had any offers to keep us. They said no. No retention department. So I canceled. Pretty terrible.

[–]color_thine_fate 5 points6 points ago

I don't look at retention as something that a company should have. If I don't want the service anymore, I'm going to cancel. I don't even mention the word cancel unless I'm done. If they have some crazy deal to try and keep me, I will listen, but I'll never give preference to companies who hide their best deals until you're walking out the door.

I had Time Warner internet, 30 mbps for $50. They raised it to $60 after six months, so I called to cancel. They offered me 3 months at $50 again, and I said, "Am I going to have to go through this every 3 months, just to get the deal I signed up for?" The lady said, "No, we can only make this offer once, and after 3 months, it will go to $60."

I said, "Well, then I'm going to cancel." And then I did. I would much rather deal with a company who gives me a good deal up front, and it stays that way.

[–]chach_86 1 point2 points ago

I had the same thing happen when I cancelled to switch to Directv. DirecTV had some really good offer so I figured I'd try getting Comcast to come down to near what they were offering- they didn't even try and just let me walk.

[–]antoinebugleboy 24 points25 points ago

$130 a month for TV?

That's an expensive habit.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]Pookie0 1 point2 points ago

A usual low bill is 80, for people who don't like sharing TV's it adds up pretty quick. I can basically guess what you have based on the price and you're getting a lot more than the cheap, old people who have Directv

[–]antoinebugleboy 1 point2 points ago

That's a new X-Box (and change) every other month. Yikes.

[–]Im_smarter_than_you 2 points3 points ago

Less than $1600 really isn't that bad considering the number of hours many people spend watching the thing.

[–]antoinebugleboy 5 points6 points ago

I spend $8/month on Netflix, and I'm already feeling saturated by filmed/televised entertainment. The only broadcast TV I watch is at work in the breakroom, or at bars.

I used to subscribe to DirecTV, but cancelled it when I moved out of state, with the intent to restart service, but I never got around to it. In truth, once you break the habit of watching too much TV, you really lose the taste for it.

[–]Im_smarter_than_you 2 points3 points ago

I completely agree. I pay my $8/month for netflix and that is enough for me. I'd much rather spend $130 a month going out and doing something on the weekends. I guess my point was that $1600 is not much for those who spend 2000 hours a year watching.

[–]3klipse 2 points3 points ago

With their choice package, still free movie channels, we are at $55 a month first year, $75 next year. My cable was like $70+, and didn't have nearly the channels and shit for HD. directv is damn good vs my old cable provider IMO.

[–]bigwhite138 1 point2 points ago

Sounds like our situation. We just switched to DirecTv, and now this shit?

[–]joerdie 0 points1 point ago

I'm in the same boat. I told the wife I would pirate everything she wanted if we could cancel. We have Netflix and Hulu+ as well. As soon as she gives me thumbs up, the kid and I will be moving into the 21 century.

[–]urmik1999 10 points11 points ago

You got Netflix and Hulu+? Isn't that the same thing?

EDIT: Gee, thanks for all the downvotes, sorry for asking an honest question.

[–]NamingThingsSucks 3 points4 points ago

I used a Hulu+ trial membership when it was fairly new and while there were a lot of similar titles, my experience was that Hulu+ had a deeper stock of TV series, and were more likely to have more recent and current seasons. Their movie selection seemed really weak to me (perhaps better now). Netflix had a much deeper list of movies, and while they do have a lot of solid tv shows they don't seem to have as many currently airing tv shows, and the currently airing tv shows they do have often don't have the most recent 1-2 seasons.

[–]CoastieThaMostie 1 point2 points ago

Did the same thing today. I was paying $109 a month and the fucking rep kept me on the phone for 20 minutes begging me not to leave and saying he could get my bill down to $79 a month.

Went with the cable company and got cable, 30mbps Internet and phone for $117 a month.

Plus, the cable company has nick. No one keeps Spongebob from my son.

[–]Inorashi 4 points5 points ago

Actually it was more Viacoms fault than Dtvs.

[–]Tori1313 3 points4 points ago

All I want to do is watch spongebob.

[–]kingofbigmac 3 points4 points ago

Don't worry, The Piratebay will have your back.

[–]armedwithturtles 1 point2 points ago

i love how dramatic that guy falls

[–]omjballer 1 point2 points ago

What did the 5 fingers say to the face? SLAP!!

[–]rospaya 1 point2 points ago

Cooold bloooded!

[–]BeMusicality 1 point2 points ago

It's weird because I barely watched any tv today; maybe there's a correlation.

[–]BenAdaephonDelat 1 point2 points ago

Have an upvote. That's one of the few things on reddit today that made me lol.

[–]PoonKnight 1 point2 points ago

What's the original gif of this where the guy slaps the kid multiple times before he reacts

[–]befron 1 point2 points ago

oh netflix, how i love you!

[–]melthornal 1 point2 points ago

I have an honest question, what channels does viacom even have? I have no clue, and judging by how I have directv and none of the channels I watch regularly have changed, I imagine I haven't seen viacom (ever?).

[–]Lennox276 5 points6 points ago

Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, MTV, VH1 are the ones off the top of my head.

[–]Xanny 1 point2 points ago

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_assets_owned_by_Viacom

Mainly MTV, Comedy Central, and Spike.

[–]ramblemn 1 point2 points ago

if only there wasn't a bittorrent or newsgroup with copies of EVERYTHING the next day....

[–]Jmac5270 1 point2 points ago

Actually, Viacom is the one being the complete jerk here, wanting customers to pay 30% more for channels we already have. And, they don't even want to give customers the power of choice. They want all or nothing, so you can't pick what channels you want. They made DirecTv take off their channels because DirecTv did not want to randomly charge more, and they basically said "If you won't follow then take off our channels or face legal action. TL;DR: Viacom is a big greedy company and DirecTv tried to protect you from randomly paying more, and Viacom said TO BAD MUAHAHAHA

[–]zeusmagnet 1 point2 points ago

DirectTV, Viacom, and ME.

[–]curzon176 1 point2 points ago

What a gay ass punch. And the shirt removal was a bit over the top.

[–]deckrich 2 points3 points ago

I'm sure taking off his shirt increased his punching force ten fold.

[–]talkingbook 2 points3 points ago

The camera cuts too soon - we missed the part where he takes off his pants and slaps him with his dick.

[–]Whitey90 1 point2 points ago

Wow, you must've gotten the worst experience from DirecTV. The two installers I dealed with were very nice and polite. Plus when I phoned in for help, I was put on with tech support quite fast

[–]DJSlambert 2 points3 points ago

and me*

[–]jx0 1 point2 points ago

I've seen this gif countless times but this is the first time i noticed that it was the kid to his left that provoked him. I always thought the kid in the back was messing with him and that it was well deserved.
