This is the only one of these commercials that bothers me. This girl doesn't seem to give 2 shits that her sister died. It's like "I sent this text that totally killed my sister, but its cool cause now I can wear her clothes without her bitching"

It's the "reality tv" voice. It's monotonous, as if she is reading from a cue card. It's the same exact inflection the girls on "16 and Pregnant" have. They are being as genuine as they can be with a camera shoved into their face.

I believe it's "Yeah", but same difference. Heck, reading a text is like 1000 times easier than typing one, so I sort of hope that anyone who is a bad enough driver that they crash reading a text reads a text and flies off a cliff in order to make the roads safer.

I mean, yeah, it's crappy your sister died, but she probably shouldn't have been driving in the first place.

I typically wait for stop lights or signs to add additional words within my text. Though if i am driving a relatively straight path with low traffic i will use my knee to steer as i text. Glancing up to make sure i am not about to hit anything. And hoping that i do not have to downshift (i drive a manual).

It hit me after seeing a couple of these 'don't text and drive' PSAs. Can/should the person sending the text be charged with criminal negligence or worse? If I know someone is driving to a destination and it takes 20 minutes. But I send them a text 10 minutes into their drive...am I acting irresponsible? Just something that hit me the other night.

No, sending a text does not force someone to use their phone. That's like saying if you get someone a bottle of wine as a gift and they drink it in the car on the way home, then you are responsible.

In my scenario I know when they left and the expected drive time. Not knowing if they're driving would not change those facts. I should expect them to be driving. Sending a text, knowing what I know and that they should be driving, seems a careless act on my part. Careless to the point of criminal.

Yes but, lets say I'm wondering what my girlfriend is doing.. I haven't talked to her in 2 days, if I text her right now she could be sitting on her ass watching Channing Tatum movies and furiously masturbating(she probably is.)

Or she could be driving.

What I mean is that it shouldn't be the senders fault, but the receivers. They should be responsible enough to wait until they are not driving to check their text messages.

If I put a case of beer in my friend's car, it is not my fault if they decide to start drinking on the ride home. They know the law, it's their responsibility to follow it. If I send my friend a text while they are driving, it is still their responsibility to wait until they are no longer driving to check it.

But in a court, it would be assumed that you do not know that they are driving, for all you know they are at the gas station, broken down, arrived early, left late. There are to many factors involved to be able to say that you should expect that they are driving. Plus like it was later said, that it is the drivers responsibility. If you by a gun legally and kill people it isn't the sellers fault. I give you something that can be harmless or dangerous, (the gun or the text) you decide what to do with it...
