I really wish I was at the age when I could have enjoyed the domination that was the dream team.

[–]Ipzero 3 points4 points ago

It was marvelous. I'm not going to argue which is better, but the play style today is vastly different. On a side note, I feel kinda old now.

The 1992 Dream Team was an American Olympic basketball team that had some of the best players ever to play the game.

Just to start: Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, John Stockton, Charles Barkley

They went undefeated and basically blew every other team off the court and looked like they were having a blast doing it.

So when Kobe Bryant says something this dumb Jordan can only laugh. From wikipedia: "The Dream Team made its international debut on June 28, 1992, at the Tournament of the Americas, an Olympic qualifying event in Portland, Oregon.[5] The team defeated Cuba 136–57, prompting Cuban coach Miguel Calderón Gómez to say, "You can't cover the sun with your finger."[12]"

Yeah .. Kobe kind of has an ego =D

[–]LaxnessKamban 2 points3 points ago

"You can't cover the sun with your finger."

I'm gonna copy/paste that sentence into my brain for later use.

[–]LoveOfProfit 2 points3 points ago

We need to hurry up and make this an actual thing.

[–]mechabeast 0 points1 point ago

Also 80% of the original dream team were in their prime. By prime we're talking about Michael 'Fucking' Jordan, Larry 'Jesus Christ' Bird, John 'Holy Shit' Stockton, Charles 'Fuck your face' Barkley.

And Kobe saying that his team is better on any plane of existence is just plain stupid.

[–]shamrock8421 -1 points0 points ago

Larry Bird wasn't in his prime in '92, neither was Magic.

[–]humanspace 3 points4 points ago

You were not down voted for 'simply stating...blah blah", you were down voted for stating in a manner that made you sound like a pretentious douche.

And you're still doing it. I don't even understand how you're so effective at it.

10 of the 12 players on the dream team ended up being voted into the basketball hall of fame. Most were in the prime of their careers. Except for a game against NCAA All-Stars, the dream team was never even close to being beaten.

  1. Every NBA player that was on the dream team is now in the hall. They had a college player (Christian Laettner on the team who only ended up playing a year or so in the NBA but was about remains an NCAA basketball and Duke legend. I fucking love sports posts because I get to show off my totally otherwise useless knowledge.

[–]iseegreenpeople 0 points1 point ago

I didn't know Chris Mullin made the HoF.

[–]BrohanGutenburg 0 points1 point ago

Hells yeah. He was an animal

[–]shamoni 1 point2 points ago

Shut the fuck up about down votes, asshole. This isn't a popularity contest.

The USA basketball team in 1992 was referred to as "The Dream Team" consisted of Michael Jordan, Scotty Pippin, "The Mailman" Karl Malone, and Larry Bird to name a few. All huge names in the NBA. Kobe Bryant (a ball hogging piece of shit, [also accused of raping a woman a year or so ago]) is claiming that this years USA olympic basketball team, could beat the '92 dream team. Jordan (pictured in the text laughing hysterically) knows this is completely absurd and can't control his fits of laughter.

TL:DR Kobe Bryant is terrible at basketball and has a really big head.

[–]BrohanGutenburg 6 points7 points ago

ummmm. I'm by no means a Kobe fan, but if think he's "terrible at basketball" you're kinda clueless

[–]epiclulz4real -2 points-1 points ago

Why? Because he hogs the ball? Sure the lakers have been riding on his "talent" for the past few years but that doesn't make him a good basketball player. He chokes under pressure, did I mention he's a ball hog. He doesn't trust his team mates enough. Sure he can shoot and juke, but basketball is a lot more about shooting and juking. Its about team work. Which he fails to grasp

[–]BrohanGutenburg 9 points10 points ago

There's a difference between not grasping teamwork and being terrible at basketball. he has 6 rings. Doubt he's "terrible at basketball". Believe me I know he's a ball hog, but you can have your fingers in his nostrils and he's still gonna elevate from anywhere on the floor and drain it.

TL;DR- Impossible to be terrible and have 6 rings, multiple (MULTIPLE) scoring titles, and numerous MVPs. I totally understand you not liking him, but don't say he's terrible at bball, that's dumb

[–]YoungSerious[!] 0 points1 point ago

5 rings*

[–]BrohanGutenburg 0 points1 point ago

Unfortunately the 6 is right next to the 5. I know it seems extremely unlikely that I made that error twice, but alas it happened. Sorry for misleading anyone. It is indeed 5. 3 with Shaq, 2 with Pau.

[–]YoungSerious[!] 0 points1 point ago

No worries, just trying to clarify.

[–]AZRAEL55 -4 points-3 points ago

Ok so 5 rings make one rape ok, Gotcha.

[–]YoungSerious[!] 1 point2 points ago

Yeah, because that affects the conversation between me and Gutenberg. Oh wait, no it doesn't, you are just interjecting an idiotic statement because...actually I can't come up with any kind of justification for your idiocy, and I doubt you can either.

[–]YoungSerious[!] 1 point2 points ago

Even by your own logic he is incredible. If his teammates are riding his "talent" and his team has 5 rings since he started playing for them, implying that he carried his team to 5 championships. Yeah, he is a ball hog, and he definitely thinks he is much better than his entire team, but even people like me who hate him with a fiery passion recognize he is an amazing scorer and one of the best clutch players alive.

[–]humanspace -1 points0 points ago

He's not even the best LA Laker in history. More like third or fourth.

[–]BrohanGutenburg 0 points1 point ago

...you're talking about one of the most winniest franchises in history. To be specific, the second most winniest. 3rd or 4th is damn good when you campare him to Kareem, Magic, and the like.

[–]shamrock8421 0 points1 point ago

You mean Kobe Bryant the guy that has a championship ring for every finger on his hand? That Kobe Bryant?

What a terrible basketball player

[–]s898j 0 points1 point ago

Kobe Bryant may have a big head but he is probably the most talented player in the league currently.

[–]phiber232 0 points1 point ago

I'd take Durrant scoring wise and Lebron for anything else. I'm not sure what scoring card you're using though.

[–]epiclulz4real -3 points-2 points ago

Negative. Dirk Nowitzki has Kobe beat all day.

[–]BrohanGutenburg 0 points1 point ago

dude you win everything

[–]pawkair 0 points1 point ago

I love john stockton and Karl Malone. Huge parts of the dream team.

[–]asstomouthfuck 0 points1 point ago

Is this actually his reaction to what Kobe said or to something else? Because if it is, this is hilarious.

[–]callmeRichard -2 points-1 points ago

Laettner and Mullins were only there because they were white and couldn't keep up with this team. Ewing, Robinson, Barkely, and Malone are four of the most overrated players every. None played goo D (Robinson was good at helping from the weak side but the reason Rodman left San Antonio is because Robinson was more worried about stats than winning). Remember, blocks do not equal defense. Larry Bird's back was shot at the time and the only reason he was on the team is because he was Larry fuckin' Bird. Magic was semi-retired thanks to his non-deadly version of AIDS (i.e. being rich and famous).

Pippen, Jordan, Drexler, and Stockton were the only true Dream Teamers on that squad. But I can make the same case for this years team. Kobe is old (and a better pure shooter than MJ!!, but not a better player), Chandler and Davis are role players. Kevin Love > Malone (he owes Stockton so much), but he's also a role player.

I would bet on this year's squad over the originals. Even though Jordan and Pippen would be the best two players on the court. This years squad would have the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th best players on the court (Lebron, KD, CP, Kobe).

Yes I know more about basketball than anyone else here. You know stats. I know the game.

[–]phiber232 0 points1 point ago

Malone overrated? Come on... I'm no fan of his but he was one of the best in his time.

Nice way to discredit anyone's argument by calling stats (ie facts) not important. Are you Skip Bayless?

[–]callmeRichard 0 points1 point ago

Fuck Skip Bayless. Malone played with the best pure point guard ever. I would say Stockton is responsible for 1/3rd of his stats. He was an average defender at best. And not a winner.

I sound like Charley Rosen. Not Skip Bayless.

[–]newingtonnew 0 points1 point ago

By ignoring stats you're basically just saying one team is better than another team because they "wook pwitty".

[–]callmeRichard 0 points1 point ago

I'm not ignoring stats. I just don't look at two players and see player X is better because he averaged 1.8 points per game more than player Y. You also have to take into account the qualtiy of the competition when the Dream Team played.

Outside of the Dream Team, only six other players in the Olympics had NBA experience (Source). While today I'm pretty sure several teams are rocking 5+ players with NBA experience (Spain, Brazil, France). So you can't look at the scores of the games as a true comparison either.

[–]Potchi79 -2 points-1 points ago

I learned from reddit that MJ is a huge jerk.

[–]shamrock8421 0 points1 point ago

You could have figured out the same thing if you'd watched his hall of fame induction speech
