RYDER YOU FUCKIN BUSTER

[–]Scaipy 42 points43 points ago

Hey guys hope everything is good over there in Rockstar. Just a question referring to GTA 4, the game was brilliant and I really enjoyed and still do, but what disappointed me was the lack of planes and jets... Can you tell me why you didn't include them, I'm sure you have a very valid reason?” – via Mouthoff

The city was simply too small for effective and enjoyable flying. It was the first time we made a high definition open world, and it was a massive amount of work to make something on that scale – we simply could not make an environment big enough for planes to work properly. Fear not, they are returning in what is our biggest open world game to date.

our biggest open world game to date

This means bigger than RDR and GTA:SA

[–]RdrM 5 points6 points ago

RDR was pretty massive, too. This makes me even more excited for GTA V

[–]gorillaprojects 14 points15 points ago

Red dead was also a TON of huge open spaces! Not that it wasn't beautiful or appropriate for the game but its not nearly as daunting a task as densely populating a digital city. That said, rockstar is probably the only studio that could pull it off without every building and person looking the same.

[–]WhatamIwaitingfor 5 points6 points ago

There were a lot of tidbits to be found in the middle of nowhere in RDR.

[–]Diffusion9 4 points5 points ago

I think its a testament to their open-world skill that the vast emptiness of RDR still felt alive, though. It was an incredibly well crafted game.

[–]gorillaprojects 1 point2 points ago

Couldn't agree more

[–]kryptykk 6 points7 points ago

That's awesome... I've been playing a lot of Just Cause 2 lately, I hope they can match that size-wise!

[–]THEMACGOD 2 points3 points ago

I doubt it... Just cause 2 is HUGE.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points ago

And fucking boring. Not the game, but the world is. There's never anything interesting happening, when you've taken out one stronghold you've done them all. There were a handful of easter eggs in JC2 as well, and most of them were pretty poor. The lack of online was a massive letdown as well and made the map feel all the more empty after the release of GTA IV.

I think they made it too big to actually fill it properly.

[–]THEMACGOD 0 points1 point ago

Yeah... In honesty, I have several copies of the game, but never have completed it... I have too much fun driving/flying/crashing around to finish it.

[–]deepfriedarjun 1 point2 points ago

bigger than LA Noire?

[–]feeblemuffin 0 points1 point ago

our biggest open world game to date.

presumably.

[–]iNVWSSV 6 points7 points ago

10/10 would bang.

[–]Bender420 14 points15 points ago

I haven't been this excited for a game release since, well, GTA IV! I have a stack of games taller than my 360 yet I still play GTA every night! Can't wait for the next one.

[–]FreePatArthur 9 points10 points ago

Depending on how it is sitting, that could be like... 5 games.

[–]Bender420 8 points9 points ago

nope :)

[–]GeorgeTaylorG 3 points4 points ago

Have you played Max Payne 3? I had the same love for GTA IV and now it's morphed into a love for Max Payne.

[–]Bender420 1 point2 points ago

No, I haven't played MP3 yet. As far as R* goes I love the GTA series and RDR, but I didn't care for LA Noire that much. I may look into Max Payne though

[–]jaysire 0 points1 point ago

I've been playing it for two days now. I just can't put it down. Best game in quite a while. I see the cityscapes and think "this story is so gripping I don't even want to go through every building and open every drawer". I didn't care much for LA Noire. For me it felt kind of boring, but for my money, MP3 is at least as gripping as Uncharted. I would enjoy some more sniping though.

[–]Galapogosmisses his tortoise 0 points1 point ago

I heard Max Payne 3 just takes the sniper rifle from you when you finish the sniper mission. This is very un-GTA which leads me to believe the replay value on MP3 is pretty bad. Is it worth the $ at this point?

[–]jaysire 0 points1 point ago

I paid 45€ for it and I'd say compared to many other titles I've bought, this is right at the top in terms of "bang for the buck". It won't last as long as, say, JC2, but it's a heck of a lot of fun in a smaller package.

I just finished Uncharted 2 a while back and this feels pretty much exactly the same, except the action happens in slightly more urban settings.

It has two unlockable difficulties and I'll probably give it another playthrough with no aiming guidance and harder difficulty. I often find myself thinking "I could've handled that so much better, but oh well, still alive is what counts".

[–]sighlander 10 points11 points ago

I really hope GTA VI is set in London or some other city outside the US, like I was hoping GTA V would be.

[–]Brandaman 11 points12 points ago

A 3D London GTA is way overdue.

[–]flangle1 4 points5 points ago

Indubitably.

[–]distopia 2 points3 points ago

Not enough guns in London to be realistic. Never know though

[–]Brandaman 9 points10 points ago

What, and people carry RPG's in their pocket in America do they? ;)

[–]Fraen 0 points1 point ago

Well, let's ask the Brits!

[–]revolvingdoor 2 points3 points ago

No guns in London.

[–]transfuse 2 points3 points ago

No guns? Hah.

[–]Brandaman 0 points1 point ago

It's not real life

[–]cmykenny 3 points4 points ago

Rockstar could easily out-do the last time a dev tried a london sandbox shooter

http://i.imgur.com/bofHR.jpg

[–]s_mouse 1 point2 points ago

Oh my God. So many memories :'D Thanks man, I've been looking for this forever .

[–]cmykenny 1 point2 points ago

I know right...its prob the first time in my life i drove (albeit virtually) on the left side and around roundabouts...i remember the cars being pretty cool too

[–]Awake00 1 point2 points ago

Getaway was amazing.

[–]dialtech -2 points-1 points ago

But GTA is about America.

EDIT: To clear this up, Dan Housers own words on GTA.

The Rockstar man adds that “pretty much any era can be made interesting,” but does suggest that GTA 5 will stay in the US, because “Grand Theft Auto is about the Americana, about the American media.”

[–]sighlander 3 points4 points ago

The very first GTA game did have a couple of expansions which did take place in London.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

It's made in the UK and was originally set in the UK. I don't disagree though, at this point I think it's going to stay in America.

[–]dialtech 0 points1 point ago

The second GTA game was set in London, but the first was set in an American environment. Read some interviews with Dan Houser, many times he mentions that GTA is about America.

[–]feeblemuffin 0 points1 point ago

why is grand theft auto about america? it originated in the united kingdom, and the first release was set in fictional cities, apart from london.

[–]CoolVito 6 points7 points ago

I see a game this beautiful and I wonder how many discs it will end up being on. First world problems of an Xbox gamer.

[–]Brandaman 3 points4 points ago

One, hopefully. Considering GTA4 was one one, and that came out before the disc format was expanded and it can now fit an extra ~1.5GB on it.

If not then the MP would probably be on a separate disc.

[–]hopstar 1 point2 points ago

I wouldn't be too hopeful. If they couldn't squeeze ME3 onto one disc I doubt they'll be able to fit GTA5 on one. Granted, ME3 had a shit load of what I can only assume were space-intensive cut scenes, but otherwise there are a shit ton of repeating textures and environments. If they want to avoid a "cookie cutter" look to the city they're going to have to use a lot more unique textures and 3d models in GTA5.

[–]Brandaman 2 points3 points ago

If they do have to spill onto two discs, I hope the second disc is an install so that you don't have to keep switching. Otherwise it would basically ruin the MP free roam, and swapping discs really breaks the immersion in my opinion.

[–]Fraen 0 points1 point ago

What if you install both discs? Serious question. Me2 is two discs and I haven't gotten to the 2nd disc yet

[–]Brandaman 1 point2 points ago

Doesnt work unfortunately. Not sure if it's impossible, or if they just choose not to.

Forza 3 and 4 required you to install a second disc to get all of the cars and tracks, hopefully GTA would do something similar.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

They managed to fit RDR on one disc and that was pretty big. Although the busyness of the city might make it a lot bigger.

[–]ariqisab0ss 0 points1 point ago

MP is only on a separate disc for games that use different maps for MP. Which might mean different maps for MP, or...one disc.

[–]Brandaman 0 points1 point ago

True. Install it is then.

[–]zBAWB -1 points0 points ago

I would much rather it be on multiple disks and have an amazingly crafted and detailed world that is absolutely gorgeous to look at. Rather than have everything crammed onto the one disk and have countless buildings and people looking the same taking a lot of the believability out of the world.

[–]Brandaman 0 points1 point ago

But how would it work in GTA? You'd be swapping discs every few minutes and in my opinion, it would ruin the game.

[–]Ocrasorm 2 points3 points ago

The thing I do not get is how Skyrim, with so much in it, can be only 4 gb but games like BF 3 are 15 gb.

Is is all because of crazy code for BF3 or what? I just do not understand it.

[–]gorillaprojects 4 points5 points ago

My guess is 3 Edit: downvoted for what? Edit edit: and all is right in the universe.

[–]pHreaksYcle 6 points7 points ago

Can't fucking wait to lose 6 months of my life to this game. Only game series that gets me sucked in no matter what.

[–]Jerkfish 6 points7 points ago

I really hope they stay the course and keep a serious tone, with underlying satire like GTA4.

Saints Row established itself at being the best for the over-the-top absurd humor and Rockstar made a really good GTA that was more grounded in realism. I'm afraid they might cave to all of the criticism of "OMG WHERES MY JETPACK LIKE SAN ANDREAS!?"

Hopefully Max Payne 3 and LA Noire are indicative of their commitment to staying the course.

[–]ElTravoFuerte 10 points11 points ago

To be fair, GTA was never a "serious" toned game, until GTAIV. Max Payne started serious. So did LA Noire and Red Dead. When you play GTA, you want some mindless fun and a slightly over the top story.

[–]sensory 3 points4 points ago

Not until San Andreas you didn't. Vice City was a little over the top, but that was mainly due to the characters as it has been with every GTA game. San Andreas was the first GTA game that introduced balls to the wall insanity, a'la Saints Row, and frankly the two games should be kept seperate.

San Andreas was great, but as you got closer to the end of the story, it was much less of a GTA game.

[–]ElTravoFuerte 3 points4 points ago

There's a moment in Vice City where you use a spotlight to shine a pornstar's titties on the side of a giant building. Just something to think about.

[–]bubbameister3360652 6 points7 points ago

Fuck Big Smoke.

[–]nmork 4 points5 points ago

All you had to do was follow the damn train, CJ!

[–]darthweder 4 points5 points ago

LA Noire was not made by Rockstar so you shouldn't take that game into account. Also, I would much rather play a GTA game that was closer in tone to Vice City than GTA IV. I got bored with GTA IV and didn't finish it until I took a couple month break.

[–]hopstar 0 points1 point ago

LA Noire was not made by Rockstar

It was developed by Team Bondi and Rockstar Leeds, and published by Rockstar Games.

[–]darthweder 1 point2 points ago

And Team Bondi is(was) a separate developer, not a subsidiary, and Rockstar Leeds was brought in to help them finish up the game when they kept getting behind schedule. It'd be like calling Bioware games "EA games" because they publish them.

[–]blahPerson 0 points1 point ago

I thought the satire didn't sit well with the straight laced tone, I think the humour has to be more subtle.

[–]jimmyx18 2 points3 points ago

Any word on a release date?

[–]Bender420 -3 points-2 points ago

November I believe

[–]jimmyx18 0 points1 point ago

2012?

[–]Bender420 1 point2 points ago

yes, but after doing a little searching, I'm seeing late 2012/early 2013. I'm sure I read somewhere that it is coming out this November though.

[–]Brandaman 5 points6 points ago

Nothing is confirmed yet. There's no way it will be ready by November.

[–]Bender420 0 points1 point ago

My hopes have been crushed :(

[–]bubbameister3360652 4 points5 points ago

Most likely next May. That's their release month if you think about, Rockstar owns May.

[–]Awake00 0 points1 point ago

This man knows whats hes talking about.

[–]infamous11 0 points1 point ago

every gta has come out in october

[–]bubbameister3360652 0 points1 point ago

No, GTA IV came out in April of 2008.

[–]infamous11 0 points1 point ago

oops sorry i was confusing it with the japanese release of the game. my bad

[–]bubbameister3360652 0 points1 point ago

It's cool.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

I had heard november too, it was around the time the first trailer came out.

[–]Icweinerx2 2 points3 points ago

Im that guy who really never plays any fat for the story or campaign. I just hope instead of having to go look for cheats and manually typing them in, that instead they are all there (and they better have a lot more than friggn 10) and all I have to do is turn on or off what I want to play with. To me in just my personal opinion.

[–]splatterghost 2 points3 points ago

I'd like to see the revival of the flying car cheat from SA, honestly that did take skill to make a good landing.

Maybe even add a free play mode that allows for cheats to be turned on/off in the settings.

[–]ariqisab0ss 0 points1 point ago

I LOVED the flying car cheat

[–]MisterPresident813 4 points5 points ago

It looks so beautiful. Better than the real world that is.

[–]q1o2 1 point2 points ago

I played "Outside" today. The graphics were alright, but gameplay was lacking. No main protagonist, and everybody is in a hurry to get somewhere, anywhere. Also, the game was too bright, and I couldn't even find the settings button to turn it down!

[–]805unknown 1 point2 points ago

TIL that in the new GTA you can either choose to sit by the water, or pilot a helicopter.

[–]skiingaidan14 3 points4 points ago

Hell yeah! I can't wait! Looks good as hell.

[–]Corporal_Hicks 1 point2 points ago

Which city is this?

[–]Gary_Burke 6 points7 points ago

Los Santos, or LA.

[–]Corporal_Hicks 2 points3 points ago

Thank you

[–]duggtodeath 0 points1 point ago

Why isn't this Carcer City?

[–]zechariahmontanawils 0 points1 point ago

When is the release date?

[–]Thisisopposite -1 points0 points ago

WOOO, fuck yeah!!

[–]isaidicanshout -1 points0 points ago

I really can't wait till the next-gen comes out...

[–]WW4O -5 points-4 points ago

Looks exactly like GTA IV
