I so fucking want that. I really hope they make it like San Andreas but more in depth. That would be awesome.

[–]lopezalan287 6 points7 points ago

That's the rumor that it's going to take place in Los Santos, the main character is going to be CJs nephew, and that old characters such as Tommy Verceti and Tony Cipriani are going to make appearances in the game. From what Ive read CJ marries Denise and have a kid. CJs sister has a kid, the main character. CJ dies in a shoot out, Denise wastes his money on drugs and dies somehow. Their kid is sent to live with CJs sister. He wants money so he and his cousin, the main character, try to get rich.

[–]ThatBassistChick 4 points5 points ago

In my version of the game Denise died :/ She kept being like "Take me on a drive-by CJ" until the fecking car blew up. I got out, Denise didn't, the dumbass.

[–]sudosandwich3 2 points3 points ago

CJ dies in a shoot out

I would be very disappointed if this was true. The man has a jetpack and access to a military plane! If he dies, his death has to be spectacular.

[–]lopezalan287 0 points1 point ago

Read it here. Might not be legit though :/

[–]spacemanspiff30SpacemanSpiff30 2 points3 points ago

Seems rather convoluted, but I'd still play it. Up until the last one being so annoying, the story lines tended to be alright.

[–]sindher -2 points-1 points ago

Where the fuck did you hear all that?

It's not CJ but he might make an appearance.

[–]lopezalan287 0 points1 point ago

This is where I heard it. I accidently told it wrong though.

[–]DoTheRustlekgibson9489 10 points11 points ago

I really hope San Fierro, Las Venturas, and all the courtyside in between are in the game. Tearing through downtown Fierro in the hydra and shooting down attacking jets and helicopters was one of the best parts of GTA:SA

[–]nolk 2 points3 points ago

It would be fun, but it probably will not happen. The game's set in SoCal.

[–]PericlesATX 10 points11 points ago

No, it's set in the fictional city and state of Los Santos, San Andreas. Which is based on LA but not the exact same. Like Liberty City == NYC

[–]matter_pixel-0 1 point2 points ago

while (libertyCity == "NYC") { losSantos = "LA" }

[–]nolk 0 points1 point ago

A bold new direction in open-world freedom, storytelling, mission-based gameplay and online multiplayer, Grand Theft Auto V focuses on the pursuit of the almighty dollar in a re-imagined, present day Southern California.

SF and LV aren't in SoCal. But hey, anything's possible.

[–]thecactielcactus -1 points0 points ago

but, i'm pretty sure you can see the Golden Gate bridge in that screen shot of the helicopter, no? Which would be the gateway to what we know as San Fierro.

[–]nolk 1 point2 points ago

I think that's the Vincent Thomas bridge.

[–]thecactielcactus 0 points1 point ago

ohhh..fuck.

[–]ThatBassistChick 0 points1 point ago

Not so much countryside. That could get a bit of a chore to travel through at times.

Edit - guys, you don't have to downvote just because you disagree with something that is very obviously my own opinion. Shits not cool.

[–]franzbiberkopf 2 points3 points ago

No. This made the game for me.

[–]ThatBassistChick 0 points1 point ago

Fair enough. At first I thought it was great, but if you had a mission, drove all the way too, mission takes you halfway across map at which point you fail, you then have to drive back again to the start point. If you fail a few times, that route it tiresome. Well, for me anyway.

[–]rushietheplushieBorisRush 0 points1 point ago

With the introduction of the cellphone into the game you can now restart a mission right away without having to go back.

[–]ThatBassistChick 0 points1 point ago

But I couldn't do that in San Andreas, so it got annoying - for me, anyway

[–]rushietheplushieBorisRush 0 points1 point ago

Right, I agree with you on that. I'm sure GTAV will have the cellphone option so failing a mission after driving through the whole countryside won't be so bad.

Rockstar is the American Polyphony. They both Try and deliver the best game possible unlike companies like Activision/Treyarch/Infinity Ward. Given, GT Prologue should have been held off for a year or so and released as a less complete GT5 with the Prologue name and then we would see GT5 much more polished. However they both try to deliver cutting edge games with each release. What I do like about Rockstar is they don't leak a teasers never mind release date every year when they clearly aren't ready thus pissing off the fans and pumping up the game beyond whats possible creating disappointment.

[–]brotastic_ 5 points6 points ago

You must not know much about Treyarch..

They put in their best effort into Call of Duty every single year, they listen to what the community wants and they keep their games as balanced as possible.

Infinity Ward is a bit worse, but their meltdown really lowered expectations.

Activision is a different story, but they aren't the ones developing COD. (I assume you were referring to the Call of Duty franchise because you mentioned the 3 main companies that are involved with it)

[–]idspispopd 1 point2 points ago

Infinity Ward is often content to borrow from prior successes rather than move forward. From what I've seen, Treyarch lacks any creativity or ingenuity.

[–]craigc6xbrocktonhockeyx -1 points0 points ago

What innovations have they brought to COD in the last two titles they have released? What new improvements will they bring to BLOP2? Probably none. They are catering to the money, not what the faithful players want. They rely on past accomplishments of the COD franchise year after year counting on new (read youngest) gamers to just buy the game for the franchise name not because of any major new features. With the $ the COD franchise has generated they should be at the forefront of FPS instead they choose to make new maps add slightly diff perks and weapons and then just re-box the same game year after year. If you respect that it is your problem and people like you are the reason there is no change in the COD series.

[–]AprahamianKaprah -1 points0 points ago

They introduced a new mechanic into Multiplayer with earning the money and buying upgrades. They put in theater mode which lets you record and post videos of past games you have played. You can even even and record them right in the game. They also added in a way to play with bots.

With Black Ops 2 they are changing the way the campaign is with options, yeah they might not be big options but they are there. There is also ways to switch in and out of different people and even vehicles.

Treyarch, also added in ways to hotfix issues so they can buff/nerf things without having to update the game.

[–]droid89 1 point2 points ago

A whole lot of diddly squat.

[–]craigc6xbrocktonhockeyx 1 point2 points ago

Really these are the things you bring to the table "play with bots" ??? You mean cheat? All of these things are just polish on poop. They don't bring anything that deeply improves the genre.

[–]brotastic_ 0 points1 point ago

Playing with bots had a separate profile than multiplayer, so no cheating.

Anyways, what does Rockstar bring in that deeply improves their genre? I would say a bit more than Treyarch/Infinity Ward/Sledgehammer does. However, Rockstar does not release annually.

Compare Black Ops II to whatever Rockstar game you will. Imagine Black Ops II was the first COD game since..COD4.

They both improve their respective genres over time. Do you really expect Treyarch/Infinity Ward/Sledgehammer to completely reinvent first person shooters every year?

[–]AprahamianKaprah 1 point2 points ago

This is reddit, you can't defend Call of Duty. You can have perfect examples of features and things they have added, but nope, not good enough.

People need to stop looking at Call of Duty as 1 game. There are two developers and two very different play styles and development teams. Treyarch, and Infinity Ward/Sledgehammer both have very different games, and should be looked at as two franchises that come out every other year.

People don't get pissed at Assassins Creed Brotherhood and Revelations. No big difference in those games. Yeah 3 is a big change, but you still had those yearly cycles in there. Battlefield 3 only got an improved engine, gameplay wise it is very similar to Bad Company 2.

In all honesty, if people want a brand new reinvented shooter, why are people still buying almost any FPS game, even Battlefield.

[–]craigc6xbrocktonhockeyx -1 points0 points ago

These are all just features that are tweaked in each game nothing new they have had the same physics engine for what, seven years. you can still shoot around corners, you can still head glitch, spawn trap, lag, etc. these games are just re-boxed year after year with new perks and a few games that have nothing to do with the core problems the game has had for years. You are obviously too much of a fanboy to see what my point is. They don't need to do it every year but come on, they still use the same physics engine after what six or seven titles. Open your eyes.

[–]brotastic_ 0 points1 point ago

It is clear we have different opinions.

You think I am a fanboy, but I am just showing you the other side of the "lolol cod sucks ass" mentality.

They have used the same engine, but its not like they haven't been upgrading it every year. Compare the Black Ops II gameplay to Call of Duty 2 gameplay. They look completely different.

They found what worked for them, and gradually tweaked it. When you get something right there isn't much of a reason to start over again.

(not going to mention shooting around corners, head glitching, spawn traps, and lag because all shooters have those problems)

[–]craigc6xbrocktonhockeyx -1 points0 points ago

Damn you are blind, the only reason they stick with there platform is it keeps making money, not because it is good. They rely on the COD name to bring in money heavily resting on their laurels. I don't need the other side of anything, I look at reality and that is the devs of COD are lazy and year after year put out a game that doesn't get any better to play than the last. In fact, they usually get worse. You can't say that about Rockstar. Hell, even companies like EA and their NHL franchise realize every couple years they need to overhaul their physics to keep up with fan expectations. Even Dice and the BF franchise while they still have many faults focus on improving those issues that infuriate players. Never mind the major steps they take in environment destruction and bullet physics. Fuck COD still chooses to go with artist derived maps that force you into places rather than use real world examples and map freedom to make maps more intuitive to navigate. Like I said, the COD franchise has gotten lazy and don't seem interested with making a better game just money.

[–]imamomobird -1 points0 points ago

Have you actually played any of the Treyarch games? They definately add more features than IW does. Tryarch introduced the money system, customisable logos, theatre mode, arcade modes such as 'one in the chamber' ans 'gun game', nazi zombies and modes with bots. Black ops 2 is rumoured to have open ended campain with multiple endings, maybe even sandbox, set in the future.

Compare that with IW who, since MW1 have added: more killstreaks, 'pro perks', and spec ops.

I play the games and still enjoy IWs games but Treyarch definately add more and experiment with the franchise.

[–]craigc6xbrocktonhockeyx -1 points0 points ago

You are obviously too much of a fanboy to see what my point is.

[–]imamomobird 0 points1 point ago

Those 'problems' that you mentioned are all relatively small issues. I don't notice any of the problems you mentioned, and I don't even know what head glitching is.

The main issues like 'host ended game', overpowered weapons/perks have all been fixed. Sure, they haven't used a new physics engine but that's not really an issue for me. I understand your point but it's a non-issue for me. With the campaign, extra missions and online its easy to rack up 50+ hours which is more than most other games, so in my opinion it's worth my money.

I'm not a fanboy, I accept that COD isn't the greatest, most innovative game on the market but I don't think it deserves most of the shit it gets . The bottom line is for a lot of people the game is still fun and that's what gamings about.

[–]bomber991 -2 points-1 points ago

You are right about the GT series, but have you played Forza 4? Man, that game just blows away GT5. It's like the GT5 guys are too afraid to innovate, and triple check stuff that's already been triple checked before five times to make sure it's right. The Forza guys seem to come up with a good idea, give it the appropriate amount of polish time, and release it.

[–]EseJandro 7 points8 points ago

Yes! This Beauiful Los Santos Weather is A Welcome change from depressing ass Liberty City!

[–]Jim777PS3Jim777 31 points32 points ago

Looking at those i would curb expectations because if i had to guess i would say those are not console screenshots, those are running on a high end PC.

if they can manage that on the PS3 then good lord.

[–]Lilday 18 points19 points ago

If you've played uc2 or 3 you should know the ps3 is very capable. I'd say there is nothing in those screens that the ps3 can't do. They actually look like a slightly polished gta IV. I'm really happy though, gta is about so much more than graphics. also r/grandtheftautov is the place to be.

[–]DarKnightofCydoniaCombustionManX 1 point2 points ago

The PS3 is very capable of producing something that looks this good, sure but probably not on this scale and with an open world. The Uncharted series is linear and not as much has to be loaded/processed, so it's not a very valid comparison.

[–]Jim777PS3Jim777 2 points3 points ago

Oh absolutely i dont care about the graphics, i play GTA for the gameplay and the interesting story / hilarious humor that Rockstar are known for.

[–]Dole_Bludger 6 points7 points ago

I love the talkback radio, Laslow cracks me up.

[–]piexil 0 points1 point ago

Republican space rangers!

[–]Dexiro 0 points1 point ago

UC2 and 3 looks amazing but I'm not sure it's on par with what I see in these screenshots.

[–]DrShio 3 points4 points ago

But imagine if they were...

[–]Jim777PS3Jim777 2 points3 points ago

But they just are not, this kind of thing just is not possible on current gen hardware.

[–]IceBreakBreakinBad 2 points3 points ago

Am I the only who thinks GTA V is coming next gen?

[–]Jim777PS3Jim777 1 point2 points ago

I wouldn't doubt it, but it will be 2014 before we see any new consoles and i think GTA V is shooting for a 2013 release

[–]DrShio -2 points-1 points ago

It's lame. The PS3 was talked up to be so amazing with its cell processor and all, what happened? The graphics barely beat the 360, which is an old-ass computer when you strip it down. Is it the hardware lacking or the programmers failing to use the hardware?

[–]Jim777PS3Jim777 24 points25 points ago

Nothing happened, the PS3 is 6-7 year old tech. The graphics blow 360 out of the water, go look at God of War III or Uncharted III. Look at the upcoming Last of Us, these games show the power the PS3 has.

Like you said when you strip down the Xbox its an old ass computer, just like the PS3.

We are very much overdue for a new console generation.

[–]hey12delilaHaw69Heights 11 points12 points ago

That was 6 years ago.

[–]Lilday -5 points-4 points ago

developers are too scared to maximise the ps3s power because the majority of customers are on 360. If they used the ps3 properly the 360 would look like a ps2, but that would alienate too many customers. Naughty dog & polyphony are the only devs coming close to the ps3 limits.

[–]matter_pixel-0 0 points1 point ago

Graphics sliders.

[–]everyZig 0 points1 point ago

developers are too scared to maximise the ps3s power because the majority of customers are on 360. If they used the ps3 properly the 360 would look like a ps2

LOL

Dont believe everything Sony tells you. The PS3 is a nice machine, but it still only has a 2005 era midrange video chip, coupled with a non game-optimized CPU and a horribly odd memory architecture. You make it sound like it could outperform a modern day gaming PC.

[–]StrangeYoungMan 1 point2 points ago

they're not that great. the world still looks pretty empty and doesnt exactly scream immersion.

judging by your description, it sounds like you are describing that watch dogs trailer.

[–]kazgur 0 points1 point ago

You can see a lot of aliasing in the screenshot. If these are PC screens then I don't know where the hell the AA is at.

[–]CragvisAVPVM 17 points18 points ago

A game with GTA quality with a world as big or bigger than just cause 2. PUUUHHLEEEEEEEEASE! GIMMIE!

[–]Dudemanbroski 3 points4 points ago

I know this won't happen but I wouldn't mind a little grapple hook mixed in my gta.

[–]CragvisAVPVM 12 points13 points ago

a realistic one, where you have to throw it on a roof ledge and crawl upwards maybe, this isnt saints row or just cause silly.

I would want every building enterable, with people living in them accordingly. Bust down an apartment door to find people watching tv or something, that would be awesome and make for great chases.

run into a building go through an apt and out onto the fire escape, just like the movies.

[–]Dexiro 4 points5 points ago

Any game with a world that big would just end up seeming watered down. Just Cause 2 was mostly empty space :P

[–]PanteonEZLNPanteonEZLN 6 points7 points ago

Stupid question here : So the setting is Los Angeles?

[–]Vestan_Pance 12 points13 points ago

Los Santos, which is based on L.A. :)

[–]PanteonEZLNPanteonEZLN 7 points8 points ago

Thank you. Cant wait to tear it up. Ha ha ha ha Los Santos = The Saints.

[–]voxpupil 1 point2 points ago

I thought it was going to be San Andreas again

[–]grantmclean 7 points8 points ago

San andreas is the state

[–]docomostar[S] 2 points3 points ago

Southern California.

[–]misprint 7 points8 points ago

Holy Jebus! I cannot wait any longer! Stick in my veins!!!

[–]phatmattj 2 points3 points ago

Hopefully they have the shops to pimp the cars out! I'd like to be able to even throw some hydraulics on some cars too

[–]phatmattj 1 point2 points ago

I wish the devs would take advantage of the storage space on the blu rays. That way they could make the game bigger/ more in depth. I'd like to see the ps3 get a bonus instead of Xbox.

[–]kazgur 1 point2 points ago

Funny thing is that back when GTA IV was being developed Rockstar said that the Xbox 360's disc space and the fact that not every 360 has a hard drive was "creating problems". What I don't get is that if was creating problems you would think they would make either the PS3 or PC the lead platform.

[–]djbk4lyf 1 point2 points ago

I know this is very minor but what I really want is vehicle customization. I had so much riding around in my custom low rider when i played San Andreas.

[–]rorykane[US-West]Fruit-Smoothie 1 point2 points ago

so beautiful and serine, i cant wait for the explosions and crashed and burning everything to add to these wonderful scenes

[–]BillygotTalentBillyfromHupit 1 point2 points ago

First pic looks like PS Home.

[–]PeacekeeperAlPeacekeeperAl 7 points8 points ago

I was disappointed with IV. Liberty City was beautifully crafted and looked amazing, but part of the fun of GTA is dicking about in between missions. not a lot of room for dicking there. The missions were quite dull and R* seem to have a need for psychopaths with a conscience lately, which means every cut scene or journey has this pop philosophical bullshit spouted out of the mouths of Nico Bellic and John Marston. They've started taking themselves way too seriously.

[–]DrShio 0 points1 point ago

Yakuza and Saint's Row build quality, physics, and playability just doesn't compare.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]RobotWilfordBrimleyHUGE_HYPOCRITE 0 points1 point ago

I do kinda wonder how the gameplay will be in a new GTA. Saints Row seemed to do whatever it wanted, if it made the game more fun.. and you should be playing a game to have fun. Jumping through a windshield to get in a car might not be realistic at all, but I can't stand the awkward and sometimes tedious process of simply getting into a car (especially one that's in motion) in GTA after playing Saints Row 3.

[–]imamomobird 0 points1 point ago

I like the Yakuza games because IMO it's a completely different genre to GTA and SR; its sandbox but you cant go around being a dick to people.

Im probably alone here but for me, SR just gets boring too fast. Rampaging in SR feels so arcadey that I lose interest. The more realistic sandboxes like GTA ans RDR feel more satisfying to explore.

[–]WereDaWiteWimminAt -1 points0 points ago

If you're not interested, don't post here.

[–]DrShio 0 points1 point ago

BUT WHEN IS IT COMING OUT?!?!

[–]lopezalan287 2 points3 points ago

Rumor has it that it probably won't be released until early 2013.

[–]Sonic343Sonic_343 0 points1 point ago

Unrelated, jets are making a comeback, right?

[–]CragvisAVPVM 0 points1 point ago

Yes, planes will be playable.

[–]monkeysnkittens 0 points1 point ago

I'm ready for the hunt on the hidden packages :)

[–]phatmattj -1 points0 points ago

Los santos or vice city? Either way whatever city, I'm getting a boner just thinking about GTAV

[–]Lilday 4 points5 points ago

los santos. you haven't seen the trailer?

[–]Wookiebeef -2 points-1 points ago

No Way! You can drive a helicopter in this one!?

[–]EastYork 4 points5 points ago

No you can't, nobody can.

[–]PericlesATX 2 points3 points ago

No, Wookiebeef can't but everyone else can.

[–]myinnervoice 2 points3 points ago

Are you being a smart ass? You could fly them in GTA IV as well.

[–]HutchOne23 -1 points0 points ago

Oooh an Astar. That should be pretty fun.

Edit: No really, I'm looking forward to stealing the police AS350 and flying it around. Maybe even landing it in my safehouse's parking spot and saving the game so I have it forever. I loved GTAIV as a helicopter simulator, because there were all kinds of things to fly over and under and land on. I imagine that it can only be better this time around.
