GET TO THE CHOPIN!

[–]royaleavecdufromage 11 points12 points ago

NOT BACK YET? I'M OFFENBACH LATER.

[–]flashlightwarrior 3 points4 points ago

Debussy what he did there?

[–]steenarie 37 points38 points ago

[–]249ba36000029bbe9749 5 points6 points ago

"Consider this a chorus."

[–]Wheres_The_Bacon 32 points33 points ago

The truth? YOU CAN'T HANDEL THE TRUTH

[–]UnorthodoxGentleman 8 points9 points ago

I'm sure that Schwarzenegger has Rach hard abs.

[–]Schroedingers_Cat 4 points5 points ago

The Liszt of things he has endured is too long to remember. I'll bring it here in a minuet.

[–]Beckettier 1 point2 points ago

These pun threads always Beethoven a circle.

[–]crazyknowscrazy 0 points1 point ago

This one made me laugh

[–]MillardFillmore13 0 points1 point ago

If I were Arnold, I would Ravel in my wealth and fame. Mozart as lucky as him.

[–]mormontroll 0 points1 point ago

I can't think vivaldi puns around here.

[–]diggerB 1 point2 points ago

When you're Bach, I'll be Haydn!

[–]pauliwoggius 0 points1 point ago

[–]willymayshayes 0 points1 point ago

To be or not to be? Not to be...

[–]SeanNam 0 points1 point ago

Solo me if you want to riff!

[–]ORIGINAL_MAMMOTH 2 points3 points ago

Sir, I think you meant to write "faggot" referring to the wonderful instrument of the bassoon. Honest mistake.

Quite.

[–]msbxii 1 point2 points ago

You can't just make a novelty account and be allowed to say whatever you want without getting downvotes.

[–]online222222 0 points1 point ago

He's a troll so he feeds off the downvotes

[–]jrich85 13 points14 points ago

This is from Stay Hungry with Jeff Bridges and Sally Field! This movie's not your typical Schwarzenegger flick as I'm sure you can tell. I still liked it though. Might have been because of that cape he's wearing in that first scene he's in hahaha

[–]byerover 4 points5 points ago

I love this movie. The whole body builders through the streets fiasco shows just how little people knew about body builders, or fitness enthusiasts period, at the time.

[–]iguano 0 points1 point ago

Oh man. That scene is fantastic. I could watch it all day. Guys flexing on top of a bus driving down the street? Check!

[–]agoMiST 2 points3 points ago

Fantastic little gem of a film

[–]jellonalgene 1 point2 points ago

that movie was filmed in my grandfathers house

[–]PokeyOats 0 points1 point ago

Really?

[–]jellonalgene 0 points1 point ago

yup

[–]PokeyOats 0 points1 point ago

That must have been a nifty experience!!

[–]drtautastic 10 points11 points ago

IT'S NOT A TENOR (SAX)!

[–]EnigmaticEntity 35 points36 points ago

It's not a Tuba!

...?

[–]I_am_Fred_Astaire 2 points3 points ago

Yep, you win.

[–]Shitty_Watercolour 45 points46 points ago

[–]Troub313 8 points9 points ago

I still appreciate the work you do for this place.

[–]Xephyron 17 points18 points ago

Hasta la concerta, baby.

[–]deathismybitchlover 9 points10 points ago

Your notes, give them to me now!

[–]Jakedesy 2 points3 points ago

Play with me if you want to live!

[–]theofficialposter 9 points10 points ago

Conan the barbaritone.

[–]listentobillyzane 19 points20 points ago

That was Treble

[–]moxiejeff 13 points14 points ago

No, it was fine, you ritard.

[–]atcoffey 7 points8 points ago

I need your bow, your strings, and your violin

[–]pummelhorsie 3 points4 points ago

[–]I_am_Fred_Astaire 0 points1 point ago

As someone that has no musical abilities at all, he looks like how I assume I would look if I tried to play a fiddle.

[–]pummelhorsie 1 point2 points ago

As a fiddle player, I can assure that the real noise he was making would be quite unpleasant indeed. I'd imagine the didn't they just didn't rosin the bow so it would be for the most part silent.

[–]Kirazin 3 points4 points ago

Considering the fact that 'Egger is austrian he would pronounce "Bach" correctly.

[–]kynax 2 points3 points ago

Sylvester Stalone, Jean-Claude van Damme and Arnold Schwartzeneger are writing an action movie taking place during the golden age of classical music.

Stalone says: "I'll be Strauss!"

JCVD says: "I'll be Mozart!"

Arnold says: "I'll be Bach!"

[–]bestbeforeMar91 5 points6 points ago

Bad guy better be Haydn.

[–]Damasticator 2 points3 points ago

Arnold can't keep his hands to himself. He loves Debussy.

[–]randomt2000 2 points3 points ago

It's bit funny, cause back and bach is pronounced completely different.

[–]thehamm 8 points9 points ago

Collapsed wrist, not using the chin rest correctly, and why is he playing without a shoulder rest? 6/10 not bad, especially for The Terminator

[–]AstonMartin_007 4 points5 points ago

Alot of people used to play without a shoulder rest (Heifetz, Milstein, Menuhin, etc.) and it never bothered them.

Besides, it's fiddle playing, there's no standardized technique there.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_WsKd3A2AY

[–]thehamm 2 points3 points ago

Totally right, classically trained here. I'm just slightly biased. Wasn't sure of context either, thanks for filling me in!

[–]AstonMartin_007 2 points3 points ago

Also classically trained. I also didn't use a shoulder rest; it's definitely less stable without one, but there's such a feeling of intimacy that I felt really detached when I tried playing with them on. The fact that you can move the violin somewhat also opens up some interesting tonal options. I sometimes wonder whether the shoulder rest is partly responsible for the generic-ness of modern players, but that's a discussion for another time...

Of course, people didn't use chinrests in the beginning either, that wasn't invented until 1820 by Spohr.

[–]thehamm 1 point2 points ago

I used to play without one for the first few college symphony years. Then I got tired of multibar rests and just having to hold it up. Themes of the moldeau? Nightmare. It became almost a necessity to me. You're onto something with the itamacy thing. I'm an ensemble player though, so my sound just blended in. Never really mattered to me.

[–]UnorthodoxGentleman 0 points1 point ago

Wait, you weren't allowed to put your violin down during rests?

[–]thehamm 0 points1 point ago

Less than 15 measures? No way. Conductor house rule.

[–]UnorthodoxGentleman 0 points1 point ago

Weird, I put it down even for 4 bars, and I was concertmaster once...

Chamber Orchestra of a Conservatory Prep school, if you're wondering.

[–]thehamm 1 point2 points ago

You're probably already more qualified than the conductor was. They were an old marching band drum major that pretty much wanted to make us suffer.

[–]UnorthodoxGentleman 0 points1 point ago

Oh man, marching bands. My conductor's an actual, you know, violinist.

[–]ChimpsRFullOfScience 0 points1 point ago

Isn't the modern generic-ness because of Suzuki?

[–]AstonMartin_007 0 points1 point ago

I suppose that argument could be made. To me though, Suzuki is a bit like the alphabet. If you're learning your ABC's in kindergarten, that's normal. If you're still working on ABC's in high school, something's not right.

I don't think anyone really needs to go through all the Suzuki books, they should be able to branch out by themselves.

[–]chewpendous 1 point2 points ago

Spot on. I'm a Suzuki teacher and former student as well. It's a fantastic way of teaching music as if it was a language and developing the child's ears. However, at a certain point they need to read music and be weened off of the books. I think I stopped at book 6 when I was learning.

[–]0bsesshun 1 point2 points ago

I don't know enough classical artist to join in you guys' terminator jokes. :'(

[–]wocketscience 1 point2 points ago

Arnold is always portraying such violint characters

[–]Deus_ 1 point2 points ago

[–]hollingsworthless 1 point2 points ago

Byron Berline, the guy who taught him to act like he was actually playing, is from my home town of Guthrie, Oklahoma. He's got a fiddle shop and performance hall downtown. He's a good friend of my family's and I've heard this story many times.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Byron_Berline

[–]Cromiell 1 point2 points ago

Was expecting to come in here and have the top comment be some interesting fact about how Arnold has played the violin for 15 years and performed at a variety of concerts. No such luck.

[–]Terminator101010 1 point2 points ago

Sarah Connor?

[–]pippsqueak 1 point2 points ago

Those pancake palms will not do.

[–]KznG 1 point2 points ago

RIP shirt sleeves!

[–]Palamede 1 point2 points ago

Molto allegro, baby.

[–]CantankerousPete 1 point2 points ago

The Schumannator.

[–]dmo90 1 point2 points ago

Arnolds the man

[–]Lemeip 1 point2 points ago

[–]actuallyitwasme 2 points3 points ago

Anyone else notice Arnold says "I'm back!" in the Expendables 2 trailer, signifying he did indeed finally come back like he said he would all these years?

[–]carter91 0 points1 point ago

Triple entendre, nice

[–]No_Remaining_Names 0 points1 point ago

Your Stradivarius. Give them to me.

[–]zulubowie 0 points1 point ago

This is from one of his first movies called "Stay Hungry." It's bizarre watching him play the fiddle but he does it.

[–]Zlurpo 0 points1 point ago

I'm not sure why people imitate him saying "Bach." It actually just sounds like he says "back".

[–]elpresidente-4 0 points1 point ago

Fine violin! But vere are ze notes?

[–]KMiner 0 points1 point ago

No,just no

[–]HappyKillmore45 0 points1 point ago

How do christians not believe in evolution? I mean come on! Look at this guy!

[–]stlnumb1 0 points1 point ago

[–]Nanobot 0 points1 point ago

The Termiskantor!

[–]FritzMeister 0 points1 point ago

Whenever someone does that Arnold impression, I think it's funny to follow up with "I'll be Beethoven!" Most don't get it and just look at me like I'm an idiot.

[–]LuckyE13 0 points1 point ago

ah giggled

[–]thatguysammo 0 points1 point ago

Only if I get to be Beethoven!

[–]ninekilnmegalith 0 points1 point ago

Actually... its from The Running Man

[–]IronOhki 0 points1 point ago

When I was growing up, whenever someone said "I'll be back," me or my brother would answer "I'll be Tchaikovsky."

[–]eiPott 0 points1 point ago

Do english-speaking people actually pronounce Bach like "back"?

[–]PartiallyRibena 0 points1 point ago

He is the Maher of California

[–]Mistifer 0 points1 point ago

Arnold Schwarzenegger--so say us-- Turned down the lead in Amadeus: He said, "That Mozart is a hack, But with a new script, I'll be Bach!"

[–]supergroovynova 0 points1 point ago

I'll be Bach...You be Beethoven...

[–]mike-raphone 0 points1 point ago

I'LL BE BACH!

[–]haferflocken 0 points1 point ago

In a minuet?

[–]nikolaristo -1 points0 points ago

That's just bloody brilliant... outstanding... just, wow. wow.

[–]Duis_ -1 points0 points ago

As someone who can actually pronounce Johann Sebastian Bach this makes no sense at all. Here's the correct pronunciation: http://contribute.dict.cc/?action=audio-history&f=id-201730

[–]T_Mucks -1 points0 points ago

You'll be Bach?

Well, I'll be Haydn.

[–]toomuchlovin -5 points-4 points ago

GET TO THE CELLO!
