The thing that always bothered me about superman is you'd see him deflecting bullets off his chest in one panel, then in the next he's ducking a guys punch. Why even duck, superman? Why waste the energy? Just end that motherfucker.

I always got annoyed at superman comics because he's pretty much already won.

He's fucking superman. He has ALL the powers. The only person who's even a remote challenge to him is Lex Luthor, but only because he manipulates situations that cause Superman to paint himself into an ethical corner and then figure a way out.

I always felt that The Flash could do the same thing. He can run near the speed of light (sometimes at or past the speed of light depending on the story), you think he would be able to do just about whatever he wanted.

If I remember correctly the Flash actually is faster than superman. All the races and stuff he just held himself back because it was for charity and it would be really shitty of him to just circle the earth a billion times before superman could blink.

I still feel like if superman didn't have this long standing history and he was just barely created, he wouldn't get as much attention as he does now.

That was in Flash: Rebirth, and was a kick ass scene.

And I know what you mean. The biggest problem with Superman being the first superhero is that he has been around so long that the writers had to keep upping the stakes, which meant that Superman had to get stronger and stronger and now he can pretty much do anything and he's gotten kind of boring. Some writers can still bring out the best in him, but not all are up to the task.

At least batman is always interesting. He's a super hero with no super powers and he's got a an entire rogues gallery to choose from. It doesn't ALWAYS have to be the joker. There are literally hundreds of villains that give batman a run for his money on a nightly basis. If they ever run out they just copy what happens in real life. New mob boss comes up and starts screwing things up.

It's good because batman never has to seem more and more powered up as time goes by. Sure he might get a new gadget but it's never overpowered.

He's just the worlds greatest detective. Trying to protect ONE city from an endless horde of people who constantly strain him against his one rule.

As if that wasn't enough the comic is made even more interesting due to the fact that he's just as crazy as the people he throws into the loony bin. The only difference is his lunacy is productive and considered good. Also every once in a while, Batman looses.

Important thing about having a super power, it essentially causes you to decide if you're going to be a super villain or super hero. So you have all these super heroes running around and they're great people, they have a gift well beyond what most people have and decided to use it for good when they could have used it for selfish gain.

Batman never had that choice. He's just a man that looked out at his crime infested city and said "No, this will not do." Then he trained himself as a detective and martial artist all while making sure his family millions were invested and properly managed so he could have the disposable income to build bat themed gadgets he would then use to fight crime. Let that sink in.

Same reason people live in Detroit I figure.

Too poor to move out, family roots are too deep. People have a vested interest in trying to make something of themselves in the city. Too much money to be made from business owned in the city.

Of course the difference between Gotham and Detroit is that Gotham is a major economic site. So many villains wouldn't show up unless there was something worth stealing.

Gotham is a a city drowning in money, corruption and disparity between the rich and poor.

Technically maybe, superman generates a small electromagnetic field around his body, protecting his skin tight clothing from getting damage like it normally would. It may travel to his cape, I don't really know, good question though.
