Viral marketing for Team Fortress 2.

[–]Hellrazor236 8 points9 points ago

Something something Hitler didn't like hats.

[–]warrenseth 77 points78 points ago

Well it's actually the lack of the hat, since Hitler copied Chaplin.

[–]mcartz33 2 points3 points ago

Hitler obviously wasn't any sort of hipster

[–]ShakesWithLeft2 0 points1 point ago

Just ordered my "three Reichs and your out tee"

[–]Euphorium 1 point2 points ago

The "I Ate the Batter of the Bulge" one looks great, I might have to order it.

[–]insomniac_Goku 24 points25 points ago

Pam in New York.

[–]Prep 4 points5 points ago

Yeah, this was better on the office.

[–]J3ss33 -4 points-3 points ago

Came here to make that exact comment. Upvote for you good sir!

[–]YerLuvinUncleBert 19 points20 points ago

Look, good on you for picking up on this, but seriously, Chaplin made a film called "The Great Dictator" in 1940 where he mercilessly parodies Hitler. The character was called "Adenoid Hinkel"

This been pretty well known for at least 72 years.

[–]chunky__dolphin 9 points10 points ago

Thank you for owning with historical facts so I didn't have to put my smartass pants on.

[–]animevamp727 4 points5 points ago

and the movie was banned in Germany....that's my favorite part of the story really...

[–]electrolemon 3 points4 points ago

Especially since this image is a photoshop of the image from the Criterion cover of The Great Dictator, so whoever made this image originally before OP posted it knew that too. Not sure why they didn't just post that.

[–]SerIlyn 0 points1 point ago

Olly Moss designed the cover.

I'm having a go at this post which, as an apparent revelation, informs us that Hitler looked like Chaplin.

This isn't exactly news to anyone given that Chaplin himself played a Hitler look-alike in a film that was released over 70 years ago

Racism was neither stated nor implied.

[–]Ronald_McFondlled -1 points0 points ago

oh ok, i was wondering if you were saying that he played hitler and played the role TOO well and was racist or something. my second thought was that it was just a no shit sherlock reply. sorry for wasting your time. it makes alot more sense now.

[–]YerLuvinUncleBert 1 point2 points ago

No worries. I read back over my comment and couldn't quite figure out where you were coming from.

On another note, The Great Dictator is a brilliant film, well worth seeing, if you haven't already.

[–]electric23sand 1 point2 points ago

"modern times" was better.

[–]YerLuvinUncleBert 0 points1 point ago

I haven't seen any Chaplin in years, but I have fond memories of The Gold Rush, too.

[–]Ronald_McFondlled 0 points1 point ago

oh, yeah i'll definitely check it out. my and my friend one time saw him on netflix and we both thought, well what the hell right? and we watched part of the charlie chaplin collection and i have to say, it was just about the funniest thing i had ever seen. that man can make me laugh like no other. i have seen silent comedies nowadays (yes for some reason they thought this would be a good idea) and it wasn't funny at all. i think it was because they are trained to use their mouths and they aren't well versed enough in silent, well, anything to properly perform. personally i have to say i love charlie. he is such a funny guy.

[–]Greeps13 6 points7 points ago

I recently learned that Chaplins mustache was fake.

[–]rk9 0 points1 point ago

[–]Greeps13 0 points1 point ago

yeah it was all a character

[–]lubita14 2 points3 points ago

Actually, this is an ad campaign

Photoshot eyes can see the repetition where they erased the brand in the upper right corner.

[–]pieguyfry22 1 point2 points ago

Maybe...

EDIT: Alright, maybe not.

[–]enki1337 0 points1 point ago

The guy on the right looks Amish to me now. Guess it's the hat.

[–]so_carelessly_here 0 points1 point ago

Yeah. Definitely the hat.

[–]TheOtherOneWhoSpeaks 2 points3 points ago

Actually their hair was different too. Chaplins' hair was curly when playing the Tramp, as evidenced here

[–]BartonX 2 points3 points ago

Check out the Criterion DVD cover art for The Great Dictator.

http://www.criterion.com/films/27605-the-great-dictator

[–]luke1014 0 points1 point ago

Yes, Criterion did it better.

[–]electrolemon 0 points1 point ago

This is actually where that image came from, it's the exact same bowler hat/hair/stache image. Not sure why this was even made.

[–]suplawrin 4 points5 points ago

DA BANANA.

[–]Zinthorr 0 points1 point ago

That speech is sampled in the song "We have lost the way" by Wax Tailor. Great song by a great trip-hop group.

[–]BJKInonu 1 point2 points ago

"And I can't even take off my hat because then i'll look like Hitler"- Pam Beasley

[–]Shitballs1 1 point2 points ago

Like when Pam dressed up on the office

[–]theALNation 1 point2 points ago

You So Pimping.....You so Sexy!... You so Pimpinnng, it's the Hat

[–]2_da_resQ 1 point2 points ago

Hitler actually took on the Chaplin mustache to appeal to the people.

Source: last paragraph

[–]Moklok 1 point2 points ago

[–]f3tch 0 points1 point ago

FUCK I WAS GOING TO POST THAT FUCK

*sob*

[–]shavershaves 0 points1 point ago

I thought it was just a slightly confused face then BOOM-Hitler.

[–]Al_The_Athiest 0 points1 point ago

[–]curagedacowrdlydog 0 points1 point ago

Dat Hat!!!

[–]staygold45 0 points1 point ago

It's true. Hitler kinda copied his mustache from Charlie Chaplin. Chaplin was not pleased, and responded with his satirical film The Dictator.

[–]MetaGearLiquid 0 points1 point ago

[–]mondaythecat18 0 points1 point ago

Quick Fact: Charlie Chaplain once lost in a Charlie Chaplain look-alike contest.

[–]ftpbrutaly 0 points1 point ago

Hitler... unexpectedly good at slapstick? More believable i suppose than Chaplain being freakishly good at hatred.

[–]B_Elanna_Torres 0 points1 point ago

Hitler ------------ Hitler with a hat

[–]misterwhite999 0 points1 point ago

[–]RedShirtSmith -1 points0 points ago

On the right I just see Hitler with a dandy hat.

[–]freedumb23 -1 points0 points ago

and now to photoshop bowler hats on to Adolf Hitler.

[–]McFonzinator561 -2 points-1 points ago

I see what you did there

[–]anamericandude -2 points-1 points ago

"Why was he dressed like Hitler?"

[–]TrollsForTheWin -2 points-1 points ago

If Charlie Chaplin and Hitler made a baby, would the name be Adolph Chaplin or Charlie Hitler?

[–]2_da_resQ 1 point2 points ago

I don't think that biologies.

[–]Reject-Of-Rejects -2 points-1 points ago

What i saw. 1) Hitler 2) Hitler in a hat

[–]ONpancakes -3 points-2 points ago

I want karma for reposts!
