That seems like a bad idea, too many things could go wrong and it's complicated. Why not just make it a little bigger, thinner glass with two layers a few inches apart? You could still put the fish in there too.

If you look around his neck, he has a large flange of rubber. A tight fitting piece of sturdy rubber with a flange would make a water tight seal with the globe on top.

Also notice the bump on top of the globe, most likely used to fill it up once in position.

Your view is distorted from the magnification of the head making the body look small. From my knowledge these are at least average sized humans. I know for sure #2 is because there was an album with all sorts of pics.

Didn't even think of that, It would have to be a 2-way valve because exhaled breath within the chamber would add too much pressure.

Emergency drain plug at top of the bowl is probably also where he fills the tank, he could have a wet suit on under his clothes that seals to the helmet.

Wet suits aren't sealed, they are porous. I imagine it would be sealed at his shoulders with a soft seal. Probably made out of a slightly flexible rubber that was molded on his shoulders.

Dry suit =/= wet suit. A dry suit is a sealed system. A wet suit really isn't. In fact I believe they are designed to let a bit of water in which then warms up from your body heat. A dry suit is, well, dry.

I don't think so. Dry suits are extremely bulky and not easy to move around in unless you are underwater. Also he would over-heat extremely quickly. In another picture it looks like he has a heavyish weight around his shoulders. That might help the seal.

I just have to say that with all the distortion from the bowl I would probably get motion-sick in there and puke (in the bowl. can you imagine?). This just has "bad time" written all over it. Cool photo though.

This also makes me wonder what his ears feel like in there... I bet the pressure changes every time he takes a step. Or even breathes. And I bet the water just keeps getting warmer and warmer from the sun. I'm impressed with how far this guy took this lol.

My guess is he built it around a replacement neck gasket for a drysuit(same as a wetsuit only dry). A quick Google & skim found this page which looks to be steps to to repair one. http://www.bckayaker.com/gasket/index.html
