                                        Your preferences do not define the personal preferences of all human beings, and what you enjoy and how you act is not inherently better than that of others. Is it entirely necessary to be a condescending jerk about this? I do not admire you for not caring about Tom Hanks as a person. It is not an admirable trait. It is also not a bad thing, but it is not better.

                                        People are interested in the people who entertain and enlighten them. It is a natural human curiosity to figure out how things work, especially those things which are important to us. Insight into the personal lives of those who contribute to our enjoyment and education, in any regard, is a perfectly acceptable pursuit. It is why biographies are such a popular form of literature.

                                        Granted, the devotion some people have to this often can become disturbing. Even more, it is sometimes hard to understand why people are interested in some individuals who contribute very little to their lives. However, the thing to take away is that people vary in what they find fulfilling and enjoyable. Spending time shitting on that doesn't make you intelligent, thoughtful, or interesting. It just makes you that guy.

                                        It is also worth pointing out that it is less than admirable to use the ever popular "Redditors suck" opening to your comment as an appeal to gain agreement where you would otherwise not get it. This is because there are a lot of Redditors who diverge in opinions, and they constantly see others who say things they do not like. As such, "Redditors suck" appeals to this and each person, in their head, perceives it as referring to those on this website they dislike.

                                        In other words, it is like saying "people are stupid." Well, that means you, too.

                                          Yes, but Gabe Newell is kind of cool. He revolutionized something (Steam) and seems like a nice guy. There are no stories about him doing anything hateful or immoral, either. He also seems level headed, considering he is a freaking billionaire. He is probably the most influential man in gaming over the last decade. So it makes sense that hardcore gamers admire him, but I guess the love does go a little far. (Although it's usually more playful than the die hard circle jerk that is Bill M.)

                                              I find it strange that when we evaluate Ron Paul on reddit, we spend little time evaluating his primary platform, and much time evaluating whatever other beliefs he might or might not have - including beliefs he just plain doesn't have. But if you watch any interview or statement by Ron Paul, he says very little that is objectionable.

                                              Compare that to Obama, where we focus on what he says and ignore what he does, or Romney, where we don't really focus on anything except how much we hate the guy.
