My dog does this except she does a spin then falls down. Practice in steps, spin, laydown, push her onto her side, and make her stay for a few seconds. Then slowly add them together. Repeat roughly 10*10172697643 times.

I started by teaching my dog to do the basics (sit, lay down, roll over). Then I decided to teach him the gun thing. I would tell him to lay down, and then I would point my "gun" at him and say "Bang! Bang!" I then rolled him over on his back for a few seconds before going crazy with the "Good boy!!" stuff, and I would give him a treat. It didn't take him too long to learn that he'd get a treat if he rolled on his back and lay very still after I pointed and said "Bang! bang!"

He's 4 now, and I still love it.

I did the same thing and it took about 15 minutes and then daily reinforcement for a few weeks. He was way more dramatic and slow about it, sometimes taking two shots to completely fall over.

My friend and I taught my dog by having one of us do the gun motion and sound and the other push my dog over. It's not a very hard trick to teach :)

My dog can do this...the smart one, though. The dumb one still has trouble with "Sit". We taught the smart one in small steps. She is naturally inclined to roll over if we give her an angry look, so we started giving the command "BANG" with the look. Now, we just say "BANG" and she'll flop over and pretend to be dead.
