Miley Cyrus kinda ruined it for me

[–]Haz_Matt 2 points3 points ago

I came here to say this.

[–]iztari 11 points12 points ago

Wait a minute isn't Morgan Freeman god? Why would he send himself to hell?

[–]comasynthesis[S] 6 points7 points ago

  • 30% more atheists!
  • 400% more females!
  • Pop stars!
  • Porn stars!
  • Nameplates!
  • Improved typography!
  • Ayn Rand is still here. Get over it.
  • Fixed a spelling error.

Edit: For those of you who didn't "get" it, and still might not, let me explain the subtle insinuations that make this awesome:

  1. This is meant to poke a bit of fun at religious folks by pointing out that if their Sky God and his silly Sky Rules are real, then some of the brightest, most influential, most popular, <insert adjective here> people to have ever been born will be going to Hell.
  2. Atheists don't actually believe they are going to Hell to kick it with these people. It's a statement of pride that we would (if it were true) gladly share that fate with our heroes who have gone fearlessly before us.

Edit 2: I understand quite well how unpopular Ayn Rand is on Reddit and I understand precisely why. I am not an Objectivist and disagree with her philosophy. I also disagree with certain things other people included here have said or done. My criteria for inclusion, however, was not "Do I worship this person?" I worship nobody. Rand was a very intelligent woman who believed that the use of one's mind (not blind faith, not tradition, not superstition) was the best way to solve problems and understand the world. That is why she was included. Less pigeonholing and less black and white thinking, please, for fuck's sake.

Ayn Rand is still here. Get over it.

good thing she's stuck in the 9th circle, I'm probably 4th at worst

[–]ApolloCue 2 points3 points ago

To be honest...I wouldn't have become an atheist when I did if I hadn't read Ayn Rands books in high school

[–]Hithenameisbj 3 points4 points ago

Miley Cirus is not an atheist. She tweeted a quote letting everyone believe she was, and then immediately followed it by stating that she is not atheist, but thought the quote was beautiful.

[–]Xuanwu 3 points4 points ago

Miley Cyrus? Really?

[–]P0w3r0fGray5kull 2 points3 points ago

yup had it all magnified reading all the names when suddenly... BAM ...Miley. Then I made this face

[–]Hetrochromia 0 points1 point ago

I follow her on twitter she tweets a lot of what seems like atheist ideas.

Randomly zoom in on a part of the image

Christopher Hitchens is directly in the middle of the now-zoomed photo with my cursor over his face

is this a sign from God? Fucking mixed messages.

[–]AFKeeker 1 point2 points ago

Haha, I particularly like the addition of Sasha Grey, very nice touch. :D

[–]cjameshyatt 1 point2 points ago

Today I learned: I am going to have a great time in Hell.

[–]cosmowan5 2 points3 points ago

Dear Reason, why. Rand is the Atheist's dream--who else can create an entire philosophy based on reason, proving every single point she makes with Aristotle's laws of logic? Reddit needs to embrace her philosophy. What are the major arguments? Republicans and the Tea Party like her. Do we forsake the teachings of the founding fathers because some people believe they support their cause when they obviously don't? Republicans say they're Objectivists because nobody but Rand has created a good argument for Capitalism. She hates religion and loves life. She hates the mob and embraces the individual. She hates communism and loves the free market. She is one of our best defenders. She's Nietzsche, but less emotional and not as insane. By the way,

We don't have to claim her any more!

This is idiotic. She is not religious. She cannot be called religious, much less Christian. Read her books before you make your claims.

Also, love the graphic. Just hate the hate.

[–]jackfairy 1 point2 points ago

I will always love her for a couple of short stories she wrote that are totally NOT political or anything close. One of them is the most pathetically heartbreaking love story that makes me bawl like a baby every time I read it.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

Not caring about poor people and being morally bankrupt isn't a good argument for Capitalism, it's just an honest one.

[–]cosmowan5 0 points1 point ago

Her argument is that people shouldn't be forced to give money to things they are against. If you want to donate to the poor, do so. You will feel better about yourself and prove her own theories. Rational-self interest. Deal with it.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

I'm against my boss, so why do I have to give her my labor?

Because if I don't I'll starve. Capitalism is awesome! :D

[–]cosmowan5 0 points1 point ago

Not sure if sarcastic, or proving my point.

[–]rekonq 0 points1 point ago

I believe you misspelled Penn Jillette's name.

[–]comasynthesis[S] 1 point2 points ago

Fuckall. Dammit I swore I had corrected that. Bugger.

[–]Momordicas 0 points1 point ago

I thought Jamie Hynaman was religious? I defiantly remember reading that somewhere.

[–]comasynthesis[S] 1 point2 points ago

You know, I did too. Then I got bashed in the comments for 2.0 for not including him. From what I can tell, he may not be an atheist but he seems to not be affiliated with any organized religion. I just can't win. :[

Tori is the only one in the show who is a chirstian

[–]KoruMatau 0 points1 point ago

Are you sure Morgan Freeman is an atheist? Just because of that faith quote, a lot of people are making broad assumptions.

Although he could have said something else that I didn't hear and maybe I'm totally wrong.

[–]KoruMatau 1 point2 points ago

I have never been happier to be proven wrong.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

A bunch of rich Hollywood assholes is what you call "good company"?

[–]miborovsky 0 points1 point ago

Sasha Grey huh?

Sign me up.

[–]mechman39 0 points1 point ago

Sasha Gray really made it for me.

[–]Spartancarver 0 points1 point ago

Had a chuckle at Sasha Grey...and then had a WTF at Miley Cyrus.

[–]Tennomusha 0 points1 point ago

Einstein, from what i can tell is not an atheist, but rather had a somewhat agnostic/deist philosophy that i find closer to my beliefs :http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spinozism

also if you are wondering I am a Monotheist who currently believes that a Christian model lines up with my philosophy which draws a lot from Plato, Aristotle, and Cicero as well as less significant smatterings from other great thinkers. As one that considers himself a christian, i do not believe that anyone can attest to someone's eternal fate, I realize that as an atheist( I am making an assumption here) this is not your goal, but I would say that no person on earth has any right to attest to the will of a creator without looking like an idiot

If Hell does exist, I am sure it would involve me being strapped in a chair with barbed wire, having alcohol poured over me, poked with spears by little gnomish demons.....and listening to Ayn Rand drone on about pedantic shit.

We don't have to claim her any more!
