the road to el dorado is by far the best dreamworks movie i've ever seen

[–]TheyreEatingHer 116 points117 points ago

How To Train Your Dragon is my favorite.

[–]smartzie 16 points17 points ago

It's one of my favorite animated movies ever.

[–]Packers91 6 points7 points ago

Great movie

[–]ew629 1 point2 points ago

THAT was actually a really good movie

[–]Slippery_John 108 points109 points ago

My personal favorite is Prince of Egypt. I also like the first two Shreks, but PoE is just brilliant.

[–]james9075 84 points85 points ago

the first shrek was good, there was no reason to continue the franchise though, especially for as long as they have

[–]Slippery_John 49 points50 points ago

I fully agree, the first shrek stands on its own. Still, Shrek 2 has enough charm to win me over.

[–]sendhelp 40 points41 points ago

Shrek 1 was great, 2 was okay. I don't even remember what 3 was about, although I did see it. Shrek 4 plays out like a bad fan fiction, there was absolutely no reason for it to be made.

[–]xstaticxgpx 24 points25 points ago

wait, there's a 4th? wtf??

[–]ftc08 33 points34 points ago

The big difference between the two is that Pixar will let their movies stand on their own, and occasionally make a sequel if they feel absolutely convinced about it. Dreamworks will milk a franchise to death and then some. Pixar may have done this with Cars 2, but just look at Toy Story to show where they really stand.

[–]Wellhelloat 12 points13 points ago

I'd say cars 2 was at the very least a legitimate attempt on their part.

[–]silencieux 21 points22 points ago

I heard a film critic talking about Cars 2 as the sort of movie Pixar needs to make now and then so they can make the other films they want to make. Cars and Cars 2 weren't the greatest movies (good, not the best), but in terms of profit, there's no comparison. Cars merchandise and licensing sales made tremendous amounts of money:

http://www.filmslatemagazine.com/blog/pixars-cash-grab-with-cars-2-how-much-is-your-soul-worth

[–]Infintinity 3 points4 points ago

It only helps that it's a kind of franchise that really lends itself to lots of merchandise that kids will want to buy. It's talking race cars!

[–]immatellyouwhat 1 point2 points ago

I don't know why people dislike Cars. I consider myself a huge Pixar fan and after seeing all the special features, they put as much thought and care into this movie as any other one they made before.

[–]imatumar 1 point2 points ago

I disagree. Of the three series that Dreamworks has made sequels to (Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, and Madagascar) Shrek is the only one I would consider them to be milking to death, and they finally gave up on that series (hopefully).

Although Kung Fu Panda 2 was reviewed slightly worse, it was just as good a movie as the original, and each Madagascar sequel has been a legitimate improvement over the previous film, despite the third one grossing less than the other two so far. It's really just Shrek that has been beaten to death.

I'm not saying that one studio is better than the other, but they are both businesses and milking franchises is what studios do, be they film or game. That's how they make money to generate capital for future and original franchises.

[–]ftc08 1 point2 points ago

I'm not a huge fan of the "money justifies everything" argument.

[–]james9075 3 points4 points ago

i think there was a fifth actually

EDIT:never mind. it was cancelled

[–]buster2Xk 9 points10 points ago

Good.

[–]ladybetty 7 points8 points ago

I loved 2, Puss in Boots only made the franchise better.

[–]FoaL 3 points4 points ago

I thought the Puss in Boots spin-off was amazing.

[–]FinancialAdvisorKid 1 point2 points ago

Because guaranteed money. That being said I can't recall seeing whatever came after S2.

[–]nbenzi 1 point2 points ago

when every sequel ends up making over half a billion dollars it's kind of hard for a executive at the company to find an excuse to not make a sequel.

just sayin.

[–]Jillianmd777 9 points10 points ago

PoE is AMAZING. I'm 21 and I'll still watch it

[–]madlordofestnoth 6 points7 points ago

Agreed! Hans Zimmer once again did a phenomenal job! Their other biblical tale 'Joseph King of Dreams' was nowhere near as good - mostly, I think, because Hans Zimmer wasn't involved.

[–]malvoliosf 1 point2 points ago

And the prize for Best Cartoon Made From A Howard Fast Novel goes to....

[–]Grain_of_Salt_ 14 points15 points ago

How to Train your Dragon was the best in my opinion.

[–]puffinpunch 95 points96 points ago

I remember seeing this image years ago when it was accurate.. But since Up, the movies Pixar have released have all been crowd pleasing money makers. Toy Story 3 made an absolute fortune because everyone in the universe watched and loved Toy Story. Cars 2 made a mint because kids like more of what they know. Brave followed safe and known film tropes and wasn't even remotely as adventurous as Up or Wall-E in terms of story telling.. They cancelled a film called Newt (look it up, it would have been awesome) so they could make Cars 2. --edit-- It was canned to make room to further develop Brave and Monsters U, because it was seen as too similar to Blue Sky's Rio.

Meanwhile Dreamworks who used to consistently make garbage like that Sharks Tale movie, now make more and more movies like Megamind and How To Train Your Dragon.

Pixar have been absolutely groundbreaking in their development of films in the past, but are becoming less pioneers and more into profiting on past successes. Dreamworks, while still not as good (they just released another bloody Madagascar movie) are none-the-less becoming a better studio producing more memorable films. So this image becomes less true to me each time I see it reposted.

[–]Lowbacca1977 36 points37 points ago

Dreamworks was Megamind? Dang. They do deserve credit for that.

[–]Milhouse_is_a_meme 26 points27 points ago

[–]Pikachut 16 points17 points ago

I think at this point, it's just a thing Dreamworks likes to do. They know they do it for all the movies, and they want to keep doing it, almost as a signature.

[–]Todd_the_Wraith 20 points21 points ago

It's just like Pixar's pizza planet car

[–]JHallComicsJHallComics 2 points3 points ago

That's probably true, although it seems like a waste of pixels. The whole poster is a close up of two characters, with no context, making the same face. What is stopping them from trying just a little harder?

[–]I_am_not_a_horse 7 points8 points ago

Surprisingly, Megamind is probably my favourite cartoon movie out of both Pixar and Dreamworks.

[–]Sugar_Skull 4 points5 points ago

Megamind. Is. Amazing. Greatest love story ever.

[–]Sentient_Waffle 54 points55 points ago

So both studios generally make good movies, with the occasional bad movies, like most studios do?

Gasp.

Seriously though, these kind of comparisons are often pretty bad and biased.

[–]sedocoi 15 points16 points ago

Who knew waffles could be so smart.

[–]_edd 1 point2 points ago

The point he is making is about the trends.

Both have made exceptional movies, however Pixar had established itself as innovative but moved towards profit driven with less creativity while Dreamworks was initially known for lackluster attempts to produce like Pixar but have recently moved towards making truly creative movies. Or at least thats the common misconception.

The flaws in this thought are that some of Dreamworks earliest movies were really great (The Prince of Egypt, Shrek), and Pixar is still producing great movies where the "bad" ones (Cars 2 which was the sequel to the disappointingly unprofitable Cars) don't match the idea of being profit driven. If anything, it actually says Pixar is truly about creating great movies even if it is likely to be less profitable than their other films.

edit: paragraphs...

[–]rarisgod 11 points12 points ago

Toy Story 3 made an absolute fortune because everyone in the universe watched and loved Toy Story.

I just want to say that I think Toy Story 3 was pretty damn quality for "cashing in on previous success". That being said, I didn't even think the first Cars was anything special, so the sequel can't have been any good.

[–]bokchoykn 4 points5 points ago

I am 100% with you. Until recently, in my eyes, Pixar was completely incapable of making a movie that was anything less than incredible. However, the last two movies (Cars 2 and Brave) have been pretty weak by my expectations of Pixar and even Toy Story 3 left me slightly disappointed.

If you look at box office results, Dreamworks still holds their own against Pixar, even despite the fact that Pixar movies were flat out better. Historically, genius and innovation is great, sequels to already-successful movies and tried, tested & true formulas are just as profitable, if not more profitable. I was hoping that Pixar wouldn't catch on but it looks like they did.

Check this out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest-grossing_animated_films

[–]ConningEmu 6 points7 points ago

I actually really loved Brave, I don't know why everybody I speak to hates it.

[–]Noxwood 1 point2 points ago

I don't hate it. I don't love it. I'm ambivalent about it. And that's the problem.

Nearly all of the past Pixar movies evoke strong emotions. Like how UP made so many people cry in the first few scenes, or how Nemo was so uplifting at the end. All of them emotional depth, and interesting plots. Brave had neither. The emotional depth is very lacking, because there is no significant way to connect with the main characters. Using UP and Nemo as an example again, in Nemo, the titular character possessed a disability. In UP, the protagonist had his loved one die, at the moment he was about to fulfill their dreams.

In addition, the plot is very predictable, and also resorts to tropes in order to get the message across. The friendly neighborhood witch, the rebellious teenage daughter - etc, etc. More can be found here. I think TVTropes does it better at explaining that.

[–]allsecretsknown 7 points8 points ago

I liked Madagascar 3.

[–]Sugar_Skull 10 points11 points ago

Da da da da da da da da afro! Da da da da da da circus! Afro circus! Afro circus!

[–]Jess_than_three 9 points10 points ago

Pfh, whatever, Brave was fantastic.

[–]mjskhblflsch 6 points7 points ago

I also really enjoyed Brave. Merida was a refreshing princess, but I must admit that it wasn't the same caliber of Up, Wall-E and Toy Story. They all had the ability to move me to tears, unlike Brave.

[–]Beenhamean 1 point2 points ago

A lot of what you are seeing as the decline of Pixar has to do with them being purchased by the Disney Co. Before being under Disney's control Pixar had a firm rule on not making sequels. The Pixar Story http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1059955/plotsummary talks about the founding of Pixar and how Disney nearly ruined Toy Story from the very beginning. The leverage Disney used to force Pixar to sell was the threat that Disney would produces Toy Story 3 without Pixar, as Disney owned the right to the franchise. Disney now uses Pixar as another udder on the movie franchise cash cow. It makes me very sad.

[–]RackAttacks 46 points47 points ago

[–]PimpyMcFinnigan 7 points8 points ago

Megamind is probably my favorite recent animated movie. best choice of music ever.

[–]guitarbee[S] 8 points9 points ago

Haha, okay, fair enough. I still love Pixar more though.

[–]RackAttacks 7 points8 points ago

Oh don't get me wrong, I love my Pixar. It's just that the same points can basically be made of both companies since they both make children's/family movies. They have certain archetypes they at least try to follow. My point in posting that was really that they both make good movies, and they both make bad ones.

[–]mongster2 34 points35 points ago

And who needs character development when you have pop culture references!

[–]Phapeu 36 points37 points ago

How about we also use a popular song and make the characters dance to it!!!

[–]Paxientas 28 points29 points ago

That will totally be relevant when people watch this in eight years!

[–]Cfreeze 10 points11 points ago

Made me think of Madagascar. Which may have made the song popular in the first place. You know which one I'm talking about. I got something to move alright. A FUCKING BLADE INTO THE HEART OF WHOEVER MADE THAT SONG.

[–]Vahnya 9 points10 points ago

Oh my god, that fucking song.

Same thing with the 'Circus Afro' bit. Like, when the trailer first came out and that started playing, I surprisingly thought it was fucking hilarious.

And it's like Dreamworks realized how 'fucking funny' that was and just MILKED IT DRY. Every commercial has now worshipped that one funny scene and now it's probably the most annoying thing out there.

Also, I'm going to add to this that Ice Age needs to just stop. Just. Stop.

[–]cohrt 5 points6 points ago

And it's like Dreamworks realized how 'fucking funny' that was and just MILKED IT DRY.

replace Dreamworks with reddit and you have what happens to every meme and joke here

[–]capgetsreal 25 points26 points ago

Don't forget all the commercials for Dreamworks movies: DA DA DADA DADA CIRCUS DA DA DADA DADA AFRO CIRCUS AFRO CIRCUS AFRO POLKA DOT POLKA DOT POLKA DOT AFRO

[–]smartzie 17 points18 points ago

Ohgawd, I was close to scraping my eardrums out with a screwdriver after hearing that so much. I watched The Legend of Korra series earlier this year every Saturday morning, and they would play that fucking commercial half a dozen times. Ugh.

[–]twatopotamus 1 point2 points ago

Upvote for Legend of Korra!

[–]TankofTurtles 1 point2 points ago

I friggin' hate that friggin' commercial. That's another reason Pixar is better.

[–]BillThePenguin 3 points4 points ago

If it means anything, Madagascar 3 was pretty funny. It's the penguins, really.

[–]Packers91 1 point2 points ago

the penguins actually have a spinoff show now

[–]cohrt 2 points3 points ago

what commercial?

[–]KypDurron 9 points10 points ago

Not sure if the right one. I didn't get to see it either

[–]Acidic_Jew 49 points50 points ago

Cars 2 sucked so bad I thought it was Dreamworks. Brave was all right, but I felt like they were throwing in crowd-pleasing stuff that diminished the quality. I have to say the lack of John Lasseter on this one is pretty obvious. Monsters University looks funny, but I doubt it will be as good as the first.

[–][deleted] ago

[–]HairlessSasquatch 8 points9 points ago

Lucky. My son watches it non stop all day. it's on continuously throughout the day on at least 1 screen in the house. he loves it. he's 3

[–]samderose 4 points5 points ago

unfortunately this is exactly Pixar's marketing plan now

[–]frozenfade 1 point2 points ago

crowd-pleasing stuff that diminished the quality

What did you consider the crowd-pleasing stuff?

[–]Vixolus 14 points15 points ago

Princesses. Triplets. Motherly bonding.

[–]james9075 7 points8 points ago

i haven't seen it yet, but isn't that what the movie is supposed to be about?

[–]Vixolus 7 points8 points ago

Merida doesn't want to get married, drama happens.

[–]ravkal 8 points9 points ago

It's possible to make a case that she was in love with the horse.

[–]RazGarth 1 point2 points ago

It's about a mother who is a bear.

[–]Acidic_Jew 1 point2 points ago

Yeah, this is what I was referring to. Not so much the bonding, I thought that was the most powerful part of the movie. The emotion and the characters. But the princess stuff and the triplets? Meh. Also, I avoided spoilers, and had no idea about the whole turned into a bear stuff, which I actually found derivative of other Disney movies like Brother Bear and Emperor's New Groove, which were not only similar subject matter but also handled it pretty much identically.

[–]Vixolus 1 point2 points ago

Yeah I didn't know about that either. SPOILERS ABOVE.

[–]AndThenThereWasMeep 1 point2 points ago

La Luna, the short before Brave, was pretty fucking great IMO

[–]DLearned 2 points3 points ago

Monsters University?

[–]bsmith84 5 points6 points ago

Sequel to Monsters Inc. it's coming out later this year, I believe.

[–]21stCenturyGentleman 6 points7 points ago

Next summer. Pixar has only been doing summer movies since, I think, maybe The Incredibles.

[–]bsmith84 1 point2 points ago

Oh, whoops. Didn't realize that.

[–]John_Lawn 6 points7 points ago

*Prequel

[–]bsmith84 5 points6 points ago

Welp, I apparently know nothing about this movie.

[–]marshmallowhug 2 points3 points ago

Sequel? The preview looked like a prequel.

[–]Athene_Wins 4 points5 points ago

I love both. Pixar is better. Still love both.

[–]Ve_r_Dead 26 points27 points ago

I actually really liked Shrek and Antz. Shrek became a classic.

[–]coreybienert 4 points5 points ago

Watched Antz again recently when I discovered Woody Allen is the voice of the main character. Definitely gives my perception of movie a totally different feeling.

[–]Gozmatic 24 points25 points ago

Kung Fu Panda 1 & 2 are excellent.

[–]Josmeister 9 points10 points ago

Kung fu panda 2 was good? I must watch that

[–]Alocasia_Fruit 8 points9 points ago

In my opinion, Kung Fu Panda 2 was even better than the first one. the first one was funny and cute and all, nice message, yada yada, but the sequel is like a full on action movie. Like I was blown away. The guy I saw it with doesn't even really LIKE animated movies all that much and he was blown away. It completely exceeded all expectations I had for it and didn't fall into the trap of the animated sequel.

[–]theroarer 2 points3 points ago

It wasnt even a point of exceeds my expectations to be good. It just flat out a really great film. And Gary Oldman as the villain? Hans Zimmer doing the soundtrack? Superb. Genuinely funny, great story, excellent animation.... Just awesome.

[–]HeroOT 0 points1 point ago

I agree. I also liked that they kinda took it to darker places at times, likely because it was executive produced and consulted by Guillermo Del Toro. I hope they can do a good third movie.

[–]Occamslaser 3 points4 points ago

It's better then the first arguably.

[–]Wooshman 2 points3 points ago

Ehhhhh. If you don't have anything else to watch, I guess. I thought it was mediocre. If you really liked the first one though, definitely watch the second.

[–]_Rick_Astley 70 points71 points ago

No one understands why I hate dreamworks. Thank you for understanding.

and the only exception to the rule : The Prince of Egypt.

[–]Boldprussian 13 points14 points ago

What about Chicken Run?

[–]guitarbee[S] 59 points60 points ago

How To Train Your Dragon comes close (I do love it), but it's still not Pixar.

[–]Josmeister 16 points17 points ago

To me How to Train Your Dragon is easily in the top 5 animated movies ever made

[–]theroarer 57 points58 points ago

It trumps quite a few Pixar movies. Not to mention Kung fu panda 1 and 2.

[–]Mezziah187 20 points21 points ago

I read somewhere (can't find it now to back up this claim; am looking) that the same guy who did the art for Lilo and Stitch also did How To Train Your Dragon.

Edit: Same directors and writers.

[–]jawa9000 10 points11 points ago

HTTYD: Dean DeBlois, Chris Sanders LAS: Dean DeBlois, Chris Sanders

It's called IMDb.

[–]nitefang 15 points16 points ago

It only trumps one Pixar movie and that is never to be spoken of. How to Train Your Dragon was awesome though.

EDIT: I don't know what I was saying, I meant one. And yes, I am referring to Cars 2, for some reason I thought there was a 3rd.

[–]theroarer 17 points18 points ago

I think HttyD was better than Brave. In terms of Rotten tomates, it has bested more than that.

[–]guitarbee[S] 2 points3 points ago

I have yet to see Brave because I fear it will be predictable... Plus, I have classes and no time.

[–]NOONE294 8 points9 points ago

Brave just wasn't very exciting or funny.

[–]gingaroo 3 points4 points ago

I partly agree with this. But it had a certain feel to it that made me enjoy it.

[–]jmai42 6 points7 points ago

Brave was cute, charming, and mildly amusing; but also predictable and a bit lacking that certain something. Not a masterpiece, but enjoyable enough.

[–]guitarbee[S] 6 points7 points ago

I remember reading that A Bug's Life is considered Pixar's biggest flop.

[–]Jillianmd777 13 points14 points ago

No way. I love a bugs life

[–]guitarbee[S] 1 point2 points ago

Oh, I still love it, but I think at one point it was Pixar's lowest grossing movie or something. I may be wrong though.

[–]South_of_Heaven 2 points3 points ago

It is the only one that isn't an original story...It is Kurosawa's Seven Samurai with bugs...

[–]christian-mann 1 point2 points ago

Cars 2 and what now?

[–]Vixolus 0 points1 point ago

Cars 2.. and Cars? I actually liked Cars. Not so much Cars 2.

[–]Occamslaser 2 points3 points ago

Cars 2 was tripe.

[–]Occamslaser 5 points6 points ago

Kung Fu Panda 2 was excellent, far exceeded my expectations.

[–]guitarbee[S] 2 points3 points ago

I think it trumps A Bug's Life and Cars 2, but that's it. Although Ratatouille, The Incredibles, and Monster's Inc seem to be forgotten at times, they had unique story lines.

I'm not denying that HTTYD wasn't great though. I was wholly impressed that Dreamworks pulled something like that off.

[–]chris15118 8 points9 points ago

Really? I like HTTYD as much or more than atleast 5 pixar movies.

The only untouchable Pixar movies in my mind are Wall-E / Up / Toy Story series.

[–]SubtleMockery 15 points16 points ago

Finding Nemo is Pixar's magnum opus.

[–]C4N4DI4N 5 points6 points ago

I love Wall-E... love love love love love (Finding Nemo is a close second)

[–]gingaroo 2 points3 points ago

I would throw Incredibles in there, but that's just me.

[–]adamzep91 7 points8 points ago

I liked Over the Hedge. And the Road to El Dorado as well as POE.

[–]jakemyers7 8 points9 points ago

prince of egypt was amazing

[–]EsteemedGentleman 14 points15 points ago

Madagascar is terribad.

[–]HellaBitchin 3 points4 points ago

Woah woah woah the first one was hilarious (I watch it with my little sisters though and their laughter is infectious)

[–]pibroch 11 points12 points ago

And there are like 5 of them now.

[–]jawa9000 12 points13 points ago

I personally like Cars 5: Junk in the Trunk

[–]zeroes0 3 points4 points ago

that's a good asian interracial porno, but I preferred part 4 becau....oh I see...nm.

[–]pibroch 28 points29 points ago

I've seen this before but it's absolutely true. Most of Dreamworks' stuff is fart jokes and dancing animals.

Pixar's movies are shit that make you go "who could have thought this up?"

[–]Proxiipanda 4 points5 points ago

Server temporarily unavailable.

[–]Wizuhd 7 points8 points ago

The problem I have with this is really only the bee is actually making that face. Like seriously, especially the fish and panda look NOTHING like that.

[–]Vahnya 2 points3 points ago

I think it's trying to specify a smirk and uneven eyebrows.

[–]tontyismynameyeh 21 points22 points ago

Fuck you, man. Kung-fu Panda was awesome.

[–]TekTik 23 points24 points ago

As was Shrek!

[–]MMAPhreak21 20 points21 points ago

And How to Train Your Dragon. Over the Hedge is also pretty underrated.

[–]LarrySDonald 3 points4 points ago

Over the Hedge was stunning visually. It was a while back, it's a little hard to make renderporn now since it just gets more realistic.

[–]I_am_not_a_horse 5 points6 points ago

I might be alone here, but I feel Megamind belongs on this list. I laughed as much at that movie as any Pixar movie.

[–]Sugar_Skull 4 points5 points ago

I thought Megamind was fucking beautiful.

[–]MonsterGoat 2 points3 points ago

[–]jawa9000 2 points3 points ago

If you wanna talk about ripping one another off, why not rip on this crappy studios: Crappy productions

[–]Null_Reference_ 2 points3 points ago

Shrek, Kung-fu Panda and How to Train your Dragon are up there with the best of Pixar's work.

Pixar is consistently excellent (besides Cars...) and Dreamsworks is very hit or miss. But when Dreamworks hits, it hits big.

[–]VeggiAttack 2 points3 points ago

I read this thinking Pixar has really creative ideas that make sense when you really think about them. Then, I got to Up. Freaking geniuses.

[–]starjharvey 2 points3 points ago

Come on...Monsters Inc. was a great movie.

[–]Pway 11 points12 points ago

I think that's a bit harsh considering they created How to train Your Dragon, which many consider one of the best if not the best animated movie of the last decade or more.

[–]Babarski 19 points20 points ago

Really? The decade? It was good, but I don't think anyone thinks it is better than Up, Toy Story 3, or Wall-e just off the top of my head.

[–]Lowbacca1977 4 points5 points ago

I would say it was hands down better than Toy Story 3. Granted, I also think The Illusionist was also more deserving of an Oscar than Toy Story 3.

I'd definitely put it as one of the best in the last decade. I think I'd pick Up and Wall-e over it, but not many of the other Pixar movies. Probably Ratatouille.

To be fair all they did was not fuck up the book adaptation. It's not like they came up with anything.

[–]Mcflexington 2 points3 points ago

The plot of the movie was literally the opposite of the one in the book.

[–]EldritchSquiggle 5 points6 points ago

I've never got the hate on ANTZ, it's a more interesting plot than Bug's Life for sure, if markedly more grim...

[–]SuperdociousVillain 1 point2 points ago

Well the plot to A Bug's Life is The Seven Samurai, but yeah Antz was better imo.

[–]jakemyers7 5 points6 points ago

My favorite animated film was always hercules

[–]adamzep91 8 points9 points ago

James Woods was an awesome Hades.

[–]jakemyers7 3 points4 points ago

hes an awesome everything

[–]ZarkingFrood42 13 points14 points ago

JUST CUZ IT'S TRUE, doesn't mean Kung Fu Panda wasn't absolutely hilarious.

[–]Cortheya 1 point2 points ago

I've seen this picture a lot but it never ceases to amuse me, just because I like to marvel at what great movies, consistently bar one, come out of Pixar.

[–]blondejewfro 1 point2 points ago

My senses tell me you are a Pixar fan when it comes to children's movies!

[–]Malek4316 1 point2 points ago

Dreamworks has some quality animated movies, some of my favorites in fact. Kung Fu Panda 1 & 2, and How to train your Dragon were great movies.

[–]hornet54 1 point2 points ago

Interesting fact: according to Imagine, by Jonah Lehrer, this is actually very close to how the thought process of Pixar actually is.

[–]I_SHIT_SEMEN 1 point2 points ago

How to Train Your Dragon, that is all.

[–]ThatMetalBrony666 1 point2 points ago

I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed all of Dreamwork's character's seem to make that face. That face really annoys me for some reason...

[–]sryguys 1 point2 points ago

Oh yeah, completely disregard How to Train Your Dragon.

[–]Ikarus3426 1 point2 points ago

Well this is awkward.

Now shut up and admit that How to Train Your Dragon is fucking great movie.

[–]KingN 1 point2 points ago

I don't like this because it oversimplifies Pixar's movies too, there's so much meaning in a lot of them. Some of them deal with some pretty serious topics, like for instance Toy Story 3 is partially about accepting death.

[–]Pookas 1 point2 points ago

I down voted this last night because i was drunk and couldn't read. I gave it a second chance this afternoon, here's an up vote.

[–]LumosNight187 3 points4 points ago

I like Pixar overall, but HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON is the best movie in the world.

[–]guitarbee[S] 1 point2 points ago

"Pixar, Imma let you be awesome, but How To Train Your Dragon was the best movie of all time!"

[–]LumosNight187 1 point2 points ago

I would totally run up on stage to say that.

[–]Packers91 2 points3 points ago

But I like Dreamworks

[–]Chasejuggler 2 points3 points ago

Antz was a masterpiece.

Pixar has a shit streak going on right now (relative to their pedigree, of course.) They better start watching their backs. Monsters University, the title itself feels forced, not Pixar-like. Pixar, I believe, is beginning to force it a bit as of late.

[–]sackadoodle 3 points4 points ago

I hate to agree with you, because I absolutely adore Pixar, but most of their recent stuff has been very underwhelming (Cars 2 was a joke).

[–]markman71122 1 point2 points ago

Pixar is just pure creativity when it comes to movies but lately with cars 2 it looks like dream works could be stacking up to rival them.

[–]TehMau5 1 point2 points ago

My problem with Dreamworks is that they will never be able to do this.

Warning: Onions everywhere.

[–]donald20 1 point2 points ago

I thought Antz was a good move ;_;

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

I thought possums laid eggs. But I looked into it, and we were both wrong.

Reddit, the friendly DDoS.

I generally like Dreamworks animated movies better than Pixar's. Pixar seems to aim towards younger kids than Dreamworks does. Their features are cute, but Dreamworks' features are funnier. Pixar has fantastic animation, though...

I dunno... Both studios have turned out good films. BTW, Pixar characters make that face, too.

Does the fish look like will smith or does the fish just look like a black person?
