Beware of trading scammers!

A subreddit for anything related to games (but not sports).

"Related" means that posts must contain gaming-related content in the link/post body, not just a "forced" connection via the title or a caption added to the content.

Posting Rules

  • Posts must be directly gaming-related. Thus, "generic" image macros/memes (where the character itself is not related to gaming) like Scumbag Steve, Good Guy Greg, etc. will be removed. Something that "reminds you of a game", or "looks like something from a game" is also not an appropriate submission; similarly, reaction GIFs are also not appropriate as submissions.

  • Following Reddiquette is encouraged

  • No "general" URL shorteners (bitly, tinyurl, etc). Single-site URL shorteners (such as youtu.be or fav.me) are allowed.

  • No game or product giveaway of any kind

  • NSFW submissions and comments must be labeled

  • Spoilers can be posted using the following formatting:
    [X Kills Y](/spoiler)
    Result: X Kills Y.

  • To mark a spoiler as relevant to a specific game/topic, use the alternate formatting:
    [Player 1 wins](/spoiler "Pong")
    Result:
    Player 1 wins

  • Report posts containing spoilers not using the above method

  • Don't post users' personal information.

I look forward to the scene were the main character crouches in an air vent for twenty minutes and then kills a guard so he can rifle through someone desk and steal their money and power bars.

[–]TheOneCurly 357 points358 points ago

It would be awesome if the movie character was a serious clepto. He would talk to people at their desks while grabbing all their notes and candy bars.

[–]LgnTss 194 points195 points ago

That would make the movie.

[–]Delta_6 127 points128 points ago

I excited for the scene when he tries to punch someone, fails, eats a candy bar, then kills someone with a punch.

[–]d01100100 36 points37 points ago

All this build up for the boss fight scene, and then... rubber balls fly out of his arm twice, cut to black, scene over, boss laying face down on the ground.

[–]MinotaurWarrior 12 points13 points ago

Better yet, have Jensen use all the hidden bossfight abuses. 1st bossfight? Jensen just calmly walks around, throwing barrels at Barret, smiling.

[–]nawoanor 7 points8 points ago

It was at that point in the game that I realized I never wanted to carry around this damn rocket launcher anymore. Four rockets to the face and he was still standing.

[–]Deracination 2 points3 points ago

Not before placing one hundred and thirty-seven bullets inside his face, though.

[–]spazmodic- 53 points54 points ago

Don't forget hacking their computers as they're sitting at them

[–]half_true 3 points4 points ago

or puts every item in their office while they work.

[–]DrEmilioLazardo 33 points34 points ago

Don't forget having Jensen drag all the unconscious bodies into the air vent.

[–]KaiserDragon 23 points24 points ago

And placing vending machines in front of doors so no one can follow you. Or if you get lazy, hack a PC, enable turrets to enemies, and pick the damn thing up and take it with you. It felt like I was cheating, sure it killed people when I didn't kill anyone before hand, but it felt good!

[–]nawoanor 12 points13 points ago

I put ~10 cops all mashed together in this one section of air vent. I can't wait for two gaming generations from now when you can wait around and hear their awkward conversations as they wake up.

[–]Xenopus_laevis 20 points21 points ago

I am more excited to see him pound a tub of powdered protein mix in the middle of a gunfight.

[–]A_Wild_Missingno 12 points13 points ago

Despite this being a joke, I think this would make movies awesome or at least funny if they did it exactly as you said it. It'd be an inside reference to the game, but put to action in what is supposed to be "reality."

I always thought you should see your characters go to weapon shops buying the weapons they use like you do in RPGs so you can find out why they pick what guns they did.

"Why'd you pick dual pistols to infiltrate their base with? So cliche..."

"Shut up, I don't have enough credits for a RPG. I was in the hospital and they took half my money."

[–]eojhet 10 points11 points ago

A 30 minute movie with 25 alternate endings.

[–]powernut 867 points868 points ago

In a world where corporations rule and nobody is who they seem, one man must uncover the biggest secret of all... record scratch ...how to fall in love again! Michael Cera is Adam Jensen, a down-on-his-luck security consultant...

Sorry, depression is setting in.

[–]remaker12 391 points392 points ago

with Seth Rogan playing as Sarif.

Pull that trigger

[–]FalconPaunch 73 points74 points ago

Jesus, I just threw up in my mouth a little.

[–]Deadbabywalrus 191 points192 points ago

Zooey Deschanel as Megan, Paul Rudd as Pritchard, Woody Harrelson as Taggart.

Best. Video game. Movie. Ever.

[–]OverlordQ 225 points226 points ago

This must be that new definition of Best I haven't heard of before.

[–]ScannerBrightly 47 points48 points ago

Best. It's a thing now. Remember when it was strange to see "bad" in the context of good? Now we have moved on to Best.

Best evar, in fact.

[–]gojirra 15 points16 points ago

Welcome to Reddit, where the shittiest things you can imagine are "awesome."

[–]bamfsalad 13 points14 points ago

And the points don't matter!

[–]CountChoculah 89 points90 points ago

Megan's never looked better.

[–]Pocket_Ben 10 points11 points ago

Haha I don't know why but I lost it looking at that

[–]t0k4 13 points14 points ago

Ken Jeong as Tracer Tong

[–]JamoJustReddit 15 points16 points ago

Emma Stone would fit Megan better.

[–]NorthernSkeptic 47 points48 points ago

I'll tell you where Emma Stone would fit.

[–]lordlicorice 19 points20 points ago

In.. your... vagina?

[–]lagadu 7 points8 points ago

Well, did you tell him?

[–]Jrodkin 15 points16 points ago

She's busy being pretty in Spiderman.

[–]ToddOfAwesome 13 points14 points ago

She's always busy being pretty.

[–]powshred 79 points80 points ago

Rooob Schneider is a carrot!

[–]Shappie 29 points30 points ago

I totally read his comment in this announcer's voice.

"Rob Schneider is..a stapler!"

[–]I_am_salad 16 points17 points ago

[–]goa604 5 points6 points ago

i never asked for this

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points ago

I just had a very Deadpool moment in where I wanted to kill you for the first part, but ended up laughing and thinking you're awesome. Have an upvote!

[–]mrbaldachin 557 points558 points ago

It's based on Human Revolution, therefore it will be YELLOW THE MOVIE.

[–]AgamemnonV1 116 points117 points ago

Well, at least we know how the Mass Effect movies will pan out.

[–]N0V0w3ls 52 points53 points ago

They will release it like Clue where some theaters will get the blue ending, some will get the red, and others will get the green!

OK, but joking aside, the EC monologues are awesome.

[–]JohnMatt 13 points14 points ago

Wait, they did that with Clue?

I only ever saw it on VHS/cable.

[–]cynognathus 34 points35 points ago

Yup. When showing Clue on tv now, they generally show the three different endings sequentially, with the first two as possible endings and the last being the "right" one. The DVD gives you the option of having the disc randomly select an ending.

[–]hoobsher 8 points9 points ago

actually, due to continuity reasons, the second ending is impossible.

[–]Cforq 10 points11 points ago

It was pretty genius. They kept mum about it for a while so people who saw it at different theaters would be confused when talking about it.

[–]vertigo1083 16 points17 points ago

You may have actually stumbled upon something here. Paranormal Activity (maybe not the most prestigious example, but hey) had 3 different endings. What if it was released with all of them in theaters, randomized?

As a marketing standpoint, it sounds genius. Adds a whole new aspect to the movie. Definitely create a lot of buzz, excitement, curiosity, etc.

[–]i7omahawki 5 points6 points ago

I remember experiencing something similar with Butterfly Effect, though years after it was released. A group of friends argued, giving three different accounts of the ending. Did create enough buzz for us to watch it again - of course I set the DVD to play 'my' ending.

[–]N0V0w3ls 8 points9 points ago

Wait, PA had 3 different endings? I know it had different ones on the DVD, but I thought it had one theatrical ending.

[–]vertigo1083 10 points11 points ago

Technically yes, and no. When it was shown at the Sundance Film Festival (before theater release), all 3 endings were shown. The theatrical one you saw was ironically not the most popular one.

I'm just saying that it would have been interesting to see all 3 of them released in theaters, each movie displaying a random one out of the 3.

[–]CharlesDingus 60 points61 points ago

Why the fuck do games like Mass Effect or Deus Ex, which already have great storylines, need to be made into movies?

Video game movies are total cash-ins, that's why there has never been a good movie based on a video games. Games that don't have elaborate storylines make shitty movies and games that tell genuinely good stories don't need to be made into movies. Doom and Super Mario Bros, for example, are both classic games but who the fuck thought they'd make good movies?

On the other end, Max Payne had a great storyline so the movie was redundant (not to mention shitty). Deus Ex, Metal Gear Solid, and Mass Effect, all of which get "movie talk," are the same way.

[–]Stormwatch36 191 points192 points ago

"Why the fuck do games like Mass Effect or Deus Ex, which already have great storylines, need to be made into movies?"

I don't know, why do books need to be made into movies? They literally are storylines on paper.

[–]Neil_Armschlong 100 points101 points ago

You get your logic out of this.

[–]IrrelevantLeprechaun 46 points47 points ago

The argument might be made that the books don't have accompanying physical visuals, but oftentimes reading a book can give you a much richer mental image of the story's happenings than any movie ever could.

[–]Pokemon_Name_Rater 67 points68 points ago

Alas, I was born without an imagination. Sometimes I sit for hours and wonder what it would be like if I had.

[–]cavitycreep 16 points17 points ago

Not really the same thing. Video games and movies tell the stories visually.

[–]SkipSandwichDX 33 points34 points ago

Yeah, unlike all those stupid comic book movies that have routinely been awful, right?

[–]Stormwatch36 11 points12 points ago

Video games ... tell the stories visually.

I really disagree. Watching someone play a game and playing it yourself are so wildly different. No one watches a full lets play of the Skyrim main quest and then goes "welp, I'm pretty much good on Skyrim". You need to experience the game by playing it to really consider yourself a part of the story being told.

[–]semi- 14 points15 points ago

Why the fuck do games like Mass Effect or Deus Ex, which already have great storylines, need to be made into movies?

Because not everyone plays video games. I think my parents would enjoy deus ex, but they don't play video games.

Video game movies are total cash-ins I agree, but so are most video games to begin with. Obviously some are made for the passion of it, but DX:HR? It was made to make money. It's no surprise they'd like more money.

that's why there has never been a good movie based on a video games.

That I disagree with. I mean yes doom and SMB were bad. Max Payne I thought was okay on its own, but too unrelated to the game. If they called it something else it'd have been a fine movie. Or if they actually followed the plot, either way.

I liked the Mortal Kombat movie. It was cheesy, but it was exactly what it should be.

Tomb Raider was also pretty good. Again, not some award winning art piece, but.. enjoyable. Same with Resident Evil. And Final Fantasy: Spirits Within. I heard Prince of Persia was downright enjoyable but I havent seen it.

The biggest problem video game movies have is Uwe Boll makes so many of them, and he is not a good movie maker. Thats not to say that only his are bad, but his contributions to the genre does not help anything.

[–]Nohsk 5 points6 points ago

THE MOVIE ABOUT PIPES

[–]Wooknows 80 points81 points ago

And it'll be piss poor.

[–]Spider_Ham 36 points37 points ago

And will be about farm animals running a bank.

[–]d3_crescentia 265 points266 points ago

We didn't ask for this.

[–]opinjonated 3 points4 points ago

Better than the second one.

[–]mjoshua 158 points159 points ago

Totally bought the original Deus Ex because the cover looked like the Matrix. Best idiot move I ever made.

[–]Severok 35 points36 points ago

My brother in law told me not to buy the game because his friends said it sucked. Best use of ignoring advice ever.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points ago

I have a particular set of friends that I know have awful taste, so when someone recommends me a game and I'm not convinced, I ask my friends who have bad taste. If they hate it then it's worth a shot.

[–]deusemx0 35 points36 points ago

This reminds me of the time my mom bought me 2 PC games for Christmas. She told me she talked to a Best Buy employee for an hour before he selected 2 games for me. This was the first time she ever bought me a game I didn't already ask for. The first one was Vampire: The Masquerade. I played the shit out of that game, totally loved it. The second game was Deus Ex. What was this? Some stupid robot game? Lame. After I completed Vampire I was considering returning Deus Ex for another game, but just gave in and installed it. Ended up being my favorite game to this day and I even made my alias Deus. Thank you Best Buy employee, you'll never know the impact you made.

[–]just_wrong 22 points23 points ago

Thank you Best Buy employee, you'll never know the impact you made.

What about your mother?

[–]Mellonote 366 points367 points ago

I never asked for this.

[–]pearson530 146 points147 points ago

[–]s_zooey 48 points49 points ago

Just like Super Mario Brothers, Resident Evil, Doom, and *shudder, House of the Dead (not that the game was anything to write home about, but that movie was a special sort of bad).

I actually think that the Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter movies were alright, probably because they were just about as ridiculous as the games.

[–]stone500 39 points40 points ago

I thought Prince of Persia ranked in with "Okaaaay"

[–]ArcticSpaceman 10 points11 points ago

All I really remember from that movie is the atrocious pacing.

[–]dodgepong 4 points5 points ago

My parents actually really liked Prince of Persia. Having said that, though, the movie wasn't based on the plot of Sands of Time as the title suggested. Rather, it took a few elements of the original story and told a different story altogether. I would say that the PoP movie was somewhere between "inspired by" the original and "based on" the original.

But I think that's OK. What they did worked, and movie storytelling is intrinsically different from video game storytelling. DXHR deals with some really interesting questions regarding what it means to be human, and I could see a studio taking elements and setting from the original and turning out an interesting story that doesn't necessarily match the video game plot.

[–]moronthannot 12 points13 points ago

You forgot Alone in the Dark. Such a fucking terrible movie.

[–]WatchYourTone 32 points33 points ago

House of the Dead, and Alone in the Dark were both Uwe Boll adaptations. Nobody will give him game scripts anymore. In fact, when the Metal Gear Solid people were asked if they considered Uwe Boll for a film adaptation, they became offended.

[–]swuboo 19 points20 points ago

Actually, the reason no one will give Uwe Boll scripts is that the law in Germany changed.

Prior to 2005, investing in a German film was risk-free. If the film made a profit, good. If it took a loss, you could write your entire investment off on your taxes.

Uwe Boll is a real-life Max Bialystock, and everything he did was basically Springtime for Hitler.

[–]WatchYourTone 3 points4 points ago

I know all about the tax law loophole, but during that grace-period he was still being refused movies by example of previous works.

[–]swuboo 6 points7 points ago

Oh, I don't doubt it. But neither do I doubt that were the law not changed, he could still find borderline meaningless gaming IP's to abuse.

[–]SirFapingtonWatches 2 points3 points ago

Well, first 5 or 10 minutes of Postal were good.

[–]MileyRay-XO 52 points53 points ago

I quite enjoy the Resident Evil movies..

[–]uneditablepoly 28 points29 points ago

Silent Hill was great, too.

[–]Irongrip 8 points9 points ago

That barbed wire tentacle rape. Ouch. The movie did manage to capture the spirit of the games for the most part.

[–]ARTIFICIAL_SAPIENCE 52 points53 points ago

Yeah, the first one was... wait, did you say "movies?" As in plural?

I am not configured for this level of outrage.

[–]Gorgovitch 37 points38 points ago

The first Resident Evil movie was fine. It was in a completely separate universe and only loosely referenced anything from the games (Umbrella of course being the exception). It was just enough that it made for a good action flick. Then they started mindlessly dumping in characters from the games. Bleh.

[–]orllybrahhehbrah 26 points27 points ago

IMO they're pretty good mindless action movies

[–]xelested 2 points3 points ago

They also sell like crazy. Each one is huge box office hit.

[–]NULLACCOUNT 7 points8 points ago

I'd agree with that but even put Super Mario Bros. in with MK and SF. None of them were particularly accurate (and yes, SMB was the least accurate of those three and maybe of any video game based movie ever), but they were all silly cartoony movies based on silly cartoony games.

[–]WatchYourTone 11 points12 points ago

I enjoyed Super Mario Brothers concept of a parallel universe where reptiles evolved into reptilian humans, that was even further descended from sentient fungus. Would have done well on its own.

[–]Turnip_Blaster 17 points18 points ago

Mortal Kombat had the dopest theme song ever. Movie was complete garbage though.

[–]faultydesign 10 points11 points ago

  • I liked Resident Evil

  • Doom was a-okay. Mindless fun, just like the game/s.

  • Super Mario Brothers (is that what its called? the movie, that is) was a silly movie. I loved it.

  • Didn't watch House of the Dead.

Never understood all the hate those movies get.

[–]BSaito 32 points33 points ago

I honestly do not understand why people still get exited by news about movies based on video games.

[–]omg_cornfields 52 points53 points ago

Because wishful thinking. It's the same reason you keep ordering from that pizza place which was awesome the first time, but shitty ever since; you hope it'll be good the next time.

[–]SweetNeo85 33 points34 points ago

So which movie was the good pizza?

[–]omg_cornfields 23 points24 points ago

Touché

[–]OldAccWasCharlievil 6 points7 points ago

Haven't seen that, what's it like?

[–]EricFaust 9 points10 points ago

The game was the good pizza. And people assume a pizza made in the same style(series) but with a different delivery guy(format) and made by a famous restaurant(Hollywood) will be tasty.

Unfortunately, it's a Chinese restaurant and they don't know what made the pizza so good in the first place.

I may have driven the metaphor into the ground. Sorry.

[–]GreatBigJerk 12 points13 points ago

Because video game movies COULD be good if the directors/writers/producers didn't butcher them. Comic book movies often suffer the same stuff, but every now and then we get something great.

[–]Eventhorizzon 97 points98 points ago

Doom...wth were they thinking

[–]IroN_MiKe 103 points104 points ago

I erm...uhh...I really liked Doom. braces for impact

[–]zero51423 114 points115 points ago

Doom was OK but I was REALLY upset that the monsters were not demons.

[–]BracedPolecat 19 points20 points ago

and the end part was a little ridiculous when they had the whole first person thing, anyone watching the movie have most likely played doom so i think it was movie fluff

[–]BoonTobias 52 points53 points ago

You take that back, that was the best part!

[–]frownyface 3 points4 points ago

I actually have a hard time choosing between the FPS action scene, and the FPS credits where all the names are tricky monsters that have to be destroyed. There was just something so awesomely hilarious about that.

[–]lemmiwinkles 18 points19 points ago

Wait what. The only reason I haven't watched it is because I thought it was all in first person...

[–]zero51423 17 points18 points ago

No, only about 5 minutes at near the end of the movie.

[–]ShallowBasketcase 15 points16 points ago

And it's badass.

[–]gojirra 5 points6 points ago

What kind of.. wh.. why the fuck would you think that?

[–]DaNoob 6 points7 points ago

Trailers.

[–]zero51423 6 points7 points ago

That part gave me a headache.

[–]mr-peabody 8 points9 points ago

Proving the point of the comic.

[–]Mcflexington 11 points12 points ago

RIPPING and TEARING out HUGE GUTS?

[–]MadMageMC 18 points19 points ago

Me too, but I also knew well what I was getting into before I ever turned on the TV. I wanted mindless monster schlock starring the Rock, and that's exactly what I got.

[–]angertrain 5 points6 points ago

And that's mostly what the game was. The story was incredibly thin.

[–]SirFapingtonWatches 12 points13 points ago

... story?

[–]human_gs 7 points8 points ago

I think Doom is one of those movies you can enjoy if you aren't a fan of the game, since as a generic action movie with little to non plot, it's actually enjoyable, however if you expect it to somehow capture the essence of the game or expand it in any way you are gonna be disappointed.

[–]noctan 2 points3 points ago

Even Event Horizon had more story elements from Doom than the Doom movie...

[–]drThreadshot 72 points73 points ago

Worst example "Max Payne". I cried at how bad it was...

[–]bureX 19 points20 points ago

Would you believe I'm actually afraid to watch it? I don't want to ruin the image of Max I have in my head.

[–]Jungle2266 6 points7 points ago

Same for me with Hitman, heard it was bad so never bothered watching it. Especially not knowing if another game was going to come afterwards. Which again, not sure whether to get the new game or not. May wait to hear what Reddit has to say.

[–]Levait 5 points6 points ago

The Hitman movie was okay. Nothing special but it was entertaining. Don't expect a stealth-thing but it's a cool popcorn-flick.

[–]WatchYourTone 12 points13 points ago

So were the valkyries real, or only real when you were on the drugs, or not real but the users representation of their death in a specific manner?

[–]UTC_Hellgate 24 points25 points ago

Yes.

[–]AntiCitizenJuan 2 points3 points ago

Yeah I feel that. Mark Wahlberg said he didn't even research Max or play the game for some bullshit reason, like artistic integrity. Lol.

It could have been so good too. Max Payne has phenomenal writing.

[–]a_suspicious_duck 83 points84 points ago

Silent Hill was okay :)

[–]Azradesh 36 points37 points ago

I thought the 1st half was actually really good.

[–]BrutalJones 29 points30 points ago

One of the few movies Sean Bean doesn't die in.

[–]H3000 19 points20 points ago

He dies, it's just not on film.

[–]NovaGuide 2 points3 points ago

Well, there's always the sequel...

[–]HisCrispness 2 points3 points ago

Don't worry: he's in the sequel, and it's based on Silent Hill 3.

[–]floorface 13 points14 points ago

It was really the only video game adaptation that I can think of that stayed true to the game.

Though I don't think it did too well at the box office, possibly as a result of catering to fans.

[–]Madous 5 points6 points ago

A new Silent Hill movie in 3D is coming out relatively soon.

[–]MpXII 18 points19 points ago

I think Deus Ex would have potential as a movie. It has such a great story and from the looks of the article, it seems CBS is doing their homework.

Oh btw what did you guys think of the Hitman movie? i thought the action scenes were fantastic, but not so much the story.

[–]RazzBlammyMatazz 5 points6 points ago

I actually really enjoyed the hitman movie, probably my favorite game to movie adaptation.

[–]nourez 5 points6 points ago

Only 'cuz of Olga.

[–]Kasuli 119 points120 points ago

Movie games are often just as bad. I think they're just mediums that shouldn't mix.

[–]GreatBigJerk 77 points78 points ago

Spider-Man 2

[–]monkeyman5828 17 points18 points ago

Such a fun game.

[–]devotedpupa 7 points8 points ago

Spider-man 1 wasn't half bad either.

[–]bordje 16 points17 points ago

Apart from swinging on clouds.

[–]captionUnderstanding 3 points4 points ago

That was the best part.

[–]irishdef 3 points4 points ago

And the ground was lava

[–]Chaster321 4 points5 points ago

Playing as the Goblin was fun

[–]monkeyman5828 3 points4 points ago

The only memory I have of that game is fighting the green goblin with the giant head cheat on....... Good times.

[–]dhaugen 6 points7 points ago

I actually just finished up The Amazing Spiderman and it was pretty fun.

[–]jaredisawesome 126 points127 points ago

Goldeneye

[–]slipperyfist 168 points169 points ago

Goldeneye was good because it was released when it was ready, not rushed for the movie release. Goldeneye the game came out 2 years after the movie.

[–]thebigger 242 points243 points ago

False. Goldeneye was good because of proximity mines that could be hidden on boxes and made to disappear thus allowing the construction of forts.

[–]j1mmie 56 points57 points ago

Guys he's got a point

[–]Monsoon77 49 points50 points ago

I agree. His point had like 3 of my 5 most favorite things. Goldeneye, proximity mines, and forts.

[–]tripp45 22 points23 points ago

no one? Ok I'll ask. What are the other two? We must know..

[–]Monsoon77 54 points55 points ago

Puppies... and Jackie Chan

[–]orzamil 29 points30 points ago

Just couldn't do it could you?

[–]Monsoon77 20 points21 points ago

When you play the game of It's Not Jackie Chan you win or you die.

[–]BValen7ine 20 points21 points ago

[–]snoharm 16 points17 points ago

Gifsoup gifs load so slowly I have to upvote off intention rather than execution. Because I have no idea if it's a good gif or not.

[–]silenti 40 points41 points ago

Riddick.

[–]AndyOniyate 4 points5 points ago

I haven't played the second one yet, but the first game was AMAZING.

[–]SuperTurtle 5 points6 points ago

And Star Wars games

[–]Traptin_85 34 points35 points ago

any Star Wars game.

[–]MrIste 65 points66 points ago

Star Wars: Kinect

[–]ibanez5150 40 points41 points ago

I would give my left testicle for a new Star Wars Battlefront game.

[–]SirFapingtonWatches 21 points22 points ago

deal.

[–]Fnoggins 13 points14 points ago

Best I can do is both your testicles for a new Star Wars MMO.

[–]Traptin_85 4 points5 points ago

isn't there one in the works?

and is your left testicle really equivalent to about $60?

[–]KnightBlue 7 points8 points ago

No. It was canceled when Pandemic got shut down by EA.

[–]WatchYourTone 2 points3 points ago

Shadows of the Empire was more of a book game.

[–]Tada-Forever 10 points11 points ago

Lion King!

Games that are direct adaptations of movies generally won't be good for pretty much obvious reasons. Especially the ones that come out at the same time as the movie.

The film-based games should in my opinion instead be based on that film's universe (maybe expanding it somehow, but that is not always necessary). Examples would be Blade Runner, TRON 2.0, Star Wars Dark Forces quadrilogy (not sure if it actually counts as it is Expanded Universe) or Battlefront.

[–]SSammich 4 points5 points ago

That's not quite fair, I think. I mean, obviously movies and video games don't mesh well right now, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't mix them. It took movie-makers a long time to figure out how to make comic book movies, and there was obviously a lot of complete shit being spewed out in the process, and there still is. But they eventually figured out how to make great movies, like Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World and the recent Batman movies. I just know that I seriously look forward to the day when the big-wigs figure out how to mix interactive and non-interactive media, because that will be fucking rad.

[–]oRyan_the_Hunter 12 points13 points ago

you always think how could they mess this up!? And then somehow they do.

[–]novanleon 7 points8 points ago

Is that from Yatzee's website?

[–]seanbear 7 points8 points ago

It's available to buy as a poster from the Escapist Magazine's store, I believe. Originally it was part of one of his videos.

[–]xxDU-HASTxx 21 points22 points ago

eidos Montreal is working in close proximity so this doesn't happen.

[–]skinnbones3440 8 points9 points ago

That article might be garbage.

Doom: "Sure to please fans of the video game, but lacking in plot and originality to please other moviegoers."

Sure to please fans of the video game...

[–]bureX 1 point2 points ago

They actually made a movie based on POSTAL?!

I don't even...

[–]UrinalPoop 2 points3 points ago

Ugh I almost forgot about Wing Commander. Hey remember how in every fucking game you kill cat aliens ?

Ya neither do we - movie director

(Except the last game but they still had them)

[–]ampitere 9 points10 points ago

Prince of Persia.. come on now people.

[–]Spaghettihouse 4 points5 points ago

Don't go in expecting a great movie based off your favorite video game. Go in expecting the Chinese whispers version of your game. Imagine if you had someone who barely understands the game explain it to a movie producer, who then explains it to his crew of writers, throwing in random love interests and swordfights to make it more marketable.

Expect that, and you won't be disappointed.

[–]upq700hp 7 points8 points ago

AND an Assassins Creed Movie.

[–]nourez 6 points7 points ago

That has Michael Fassbender. That alone should sort of get your hopes up, he's a fantastic actor.

[–]thatdovahkiinyouknow 4 points5 points ago

I don't know. Deus ex has a lot of cenematic moments, maybe it can be pulled off if they make it based on that. Anyone remember the guy who made 3 2-3 hour long movies using cutscenes from uncharted, replace it with actors and it might just be good.

[–]BubonicRage 5 points6 points ago

Can't wait to see the part where Adam hacks all the computers in the police station

[–]JDM713 17 points18 points ago

If they pick Robert Downey Jr. to play the main character, I will die happy.

[–]Gotenks0906 2 points3 points ago

I'm not sure if he could do a somber/serious role, but it might work. BTW, anyone got the link to the trailer or news discussing the Dues ex movie?

[–]ElagabalusCaesar 3 points4 points ago

A huge selling point of Deus Ex is the non-linearity and consequences of playing style. I think a film is a great idea, but something will have to be missing.

[–]northern_wind 8 points9 points ago

[–]vicODINfx 4 points5 points ago

Deus Ex movie? I never asked for this.
