I've never seen this, so I don't mind. Here's my take on it though --

If I'm seeing something for the first time that I like, upvote.

If I'm seeing a repost and I still like it, upvote.

If I'm seeing a repost and don't get enjoyment from it, leave it alone and let the community move it up or down.

If I'm seeing a repost an excessive number of times recently, downvote.

If I see something I absolutely hate, downvote (yes, it's technically against reddiquette, but you all know you do it).

Where did I say neer post it again? If someone posts an image that I've seen before but has a funny title/next context I'm all for it.

Youre assuming that I think any repost is bad. Reposts are bad when you see the same gif almost on a daily occurrence, with little to no variety in context.

Only because I haven't seen it? Even if I haven't seen it, the comments usually alert to a repost. I'm not Charles Manson; I don't go gaga over a gig because I've never seen it.

I honestly feel bad for you if you think that this is worthy and meaningful content to reddit.

Worthy and meaningful is a completely relative term on a site like this. Everyone upvotes what they like and downvotes what they don't. It's as simple as that. There's no "worthiness" to the site, it's just what tickles and individual's fancy.

My thing is that the comments have no need to alert to a repost. I'd find it very odd if someone upvoted a post, checked the comments, saw the word "repost," and immediately redacted their praise, downvoted, and called foul.

Reposts are bad if you see the post on a daily occurance? Well then don't go on reddit every day. That seems easy. Perhaps most of the people who upvote reposts don't, and that's why they get on the front page.

Sure top posts are judged by ones tastes, but on a whole reddit has some similar interests (hence constant references to a few things). If the content is vapid and empty, most would obviously down vote it. Instead people make repost more popular than oc because they're used to the same memes and thus have already half-digested a joke without reading the text, because they're used to the same memes.

I go on reddit daily as if one checks their emails and or text messages.

Your logic is that if the majority of a community does something, it's the norm therefore it's ok. That's like saying I should stop using Facebook altogether because of people posting "like in three second" images.

Just because it's a popular/vastly done thing doesn't mean THAT'S how the entire community should work.

Crucify me for wanting some fresh content, or for maybe wanting punch line humor that isn't just an image macro.
