                  In reference to the original pic: This is a full face prosthetic- probably cast off the wearer's face. You can BARELY see the lip of the prosthetic around the nose- a exposed seam. So, it's likely they took a plaster cast of the wearer's face, put a thin layer of clay all over it, and then built up the mouth and the eyes to appear as they do here. Then they cast the clayed-up face into a negative mold. Lastly, you pull the two apart, tear off all of the clay, and pour your build material (this has a soft texture with a matte finish which suggest silicone- the material they fashion oven mits and breast enhancements from.) in the newly voided space. Once the fill material cures, you pull it out and glue it to the actor's face. Voila! Paint and go... (I guess for this one they also fashioned the chain and hook apparatus out of link chain and earring hooks).

                                      FX artist here.

                                      Overall it's a good piece and concept. From a distance and glancing at it, it looks great.

                                      Critique:

                                      1. Seamlines all around the nose are visible. The artist should have incorporated the nose into the piece, even if it would have been paper thin. At least the only seamlines to worry about in that case would be around the nostrils, the gore could have hidden those seams easily. The failure to blend the flesh tones of the wearer's nose with the fleshtones of the surrounding piece makes the seamlines stick out even further.

                                      2. 2D gore. Although from a distance and at a glance, the gore looks great. Close-up, it's mostly painted on with no depth. No muscular tissue lines or pits of valleys, it's flat. The artist should have spent a bit more time with the detail work in those areas, especially considering the cost that goes into silicone prosthetics vs. foam latex.
