Same here man, just got back on tuesday, shit's annoying.

[–]T3hJ3hu 30 points31 points ago

Losing dreams is one of the very few things I don't like about it. They can be useful in determining your own psychological problem areas, revealing hidden stresses and reoccurring unconscious conflicts while occasionally presenting base misconceptions you have about the world.

...that, and being the star of your own action movie and/or porno is pretty awesome. ;D

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points ago

When I got sent to a residential program, I had epicly long dreams every single night. They were so involved that for a while I was basically living two realities: one when I was awake and one when I was sleeping.

[–]Lettuce617 1 point2 points ago

I hadn't taken a day/night off in months and same thing happened to me when I took a forced week long T break. Shits nuts!

[–]I_CATCH_DREAMS 1 point2 points ago

I'm sorry.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

I find out more useful things about myself when I smoke than when I dream...and I only occasionally have awesome dreams.

[–]clandestinemint -5 points-4 points ago

I don't believe that dreams mean anything.

[–]Arglebargl 18 points19 points ago

I don't get this though. 24/7 [4] at least; and I have extremely vivid; long; and detailed dreams; this with toking right before bed as well. When I stop smoking my dreams actually do the opposite and become more fragmented (sometimes disappearing entirely) and often turn into nightmares I can barely remember.

[–]Bekabam 10 points11 points ago

I agree with this. I've never had "no dreams" when I smoke a lot constantly. And when I stop, it's either the same or I don't have dreams because I wasn't high going to bed.

It's weird to hear so many people say they don't dream when they smoke. I think I'm the minority haha

[–]_godiva_ 5 points6 points ago

Well, it's not that you DON'T dream, it's the short-term memory impairment making it harder to remember your dreams - which, of course, varies per person (and maybe per strain too?). Also dream recall is more difficult for some people even without bud.

[–]kjm7 7 points8 points ago

Actually, I don't think it has to do with memory. Studies show that you don't stay in REM sleep as long while using cannabis, and the majority of dreams occur during the REM stage.

[–]jiubling 4 points5 points ago

Source?

[–]grodius 1 point2 points ago

I'd love to see a real study on it, but in this article about serotonin it says that it can be considered a 'REM inhibitor' ... and that people who are on antidepressants, which keeps serotonin stored in the brain, tend to lose their dreams too. We know that weed pretty much floods your brain with serotonin...

http://www.livestrong.com/article/136959-how-does-serotonin-affect-sleep/

I wouldn't be surprised if those who exercise a lot and have a good diet may still have their dreams because their ability to uptake and break down serotonin is more efficient while those who lose their dreams (have a lot of excess serotonin) are not as healthy.

[–]jiubling 1 point2 points ago

Having sex releases more Serotonin than Marijuana IIRC. It actually releases only a moderate amount of Serotonin compared to a lot of things (all drugs), only slightly above chocolate IIRC.

But I suppose that doesn't account for smoking weed all day. That would be a steady stream of Serotonin...

[–]grodius 2 points3 points ago

I think its more the reuptake of serotonin over the long term... but hey, you know what would be cool? if running lab tests on weed wasnt ILLEGAL

[–]jiubling 5 points6 points ago

One can dream... :D

[–]yourfriendmisery 0 points1 point ago

Well, apparently not if you smoke too much

[–]kjm7 0 points1 point ago

I'm at work and this was the first I could find. http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/the-teenage-mind/200906/marijuana-sleep-and-dreams

A week ago I saw a picture in the comments on trees; a user and a screen shot of their iPhone and an app like sleep cycle and it showed that when high they were in a deep sleep longer. Honestly, I really think that sleeping medicine would do the exact same thing though.

[–]MobyDank -1 points0 points ago

yeah thc interferes with your REM cycle and short term memory, so it's a double whammie on the dreams. what i've found, though, is that the variable from person to person is just too damn high, for everything including weed. i have seshes with my friends, and sometimes we smoke waay too much just to see what happens, and one of them starts puking, the other just can't move, one just raids the pantry... it's different for everyone

[–]FragileIdeals 1 point2 points ago

I'm the same as well. I have more vivid dreams when I smoke and I actually tend to remember them more in the morning. When I don't toke I tend to either not remember my dreams or not have dreams almost at all.

[–]jiubling 0 points1 point ago

You always have dreams dude. Every single night. Everytime you are in REM. It's just if you remember them at all.

[–]jacknash 0 points1 point ago

same here. i know i have them, just can't remember...

[–]jiubling 1 point2 points ago

Yeah sometimes I feel that is when I get deja-vu. I remember something as if it happened, but I know it didn't. And sometimes I think (or trick myself into thinking) it's from/similar to a Dream I had

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

I'm in the same situation. I believe we attend natural lucid dreamers. I have very detailed and vivid dreams nearly every night

[–]intheocean 1 point2 points ago

That's not how you use a semi-colon, bro.

[–]Arglebargl 0 points1 point ago

Don't get between me and my semicolons; man.

[–]permanentusername 0 points1 point ago

Believe me, your dreams will become deeper, much deeper and more vivid when you're not smoking... even if you believe you're dreaming a lot now

[–]Jabbatheslann 5 points6 points ago

I'm reading the comments here and... why do people hate dreaming so much?! D:

I could understand if you have chronic nightmares.

[–]FluffyOrangeCat 1 point2 points ago

I dislike when i remember my dreams because whenever i do, i only recall dreams that were romantic with girls that i may or may not like at the time and that causes me to only be able to think about that person the entire day, even if i don't want to.

[–]Jabbatheslann 1 point2 points ago

Maybe it's an age thing? I used to have dreams like that all the time, but they've phased out mostly.

[–]FluffyOrangeCat 0 points1 point ago

May I ask how old you are? I would love for this to fade away with age.

[–]Jabbatheslann 0 points1 point ago

19, 20 in a couple months. So there's a good chance you're older than I am :P All I know is that it used to happen a lot, and recently it hasn't so there must be something that can instigate a change.

[–]FluffyOrangeCat 0 points1 point ago

Actually, i'm 18 :P Hopefully it'll change soon. I would love to dream and not have thoughts about random people be cause of it.

[–]Jabbatheslann 0 points1 point ago

It was a rather recent change for me so it could be just around the corner :D. I don't know if it would be the same with you though because I know I still dream when I'm high.

[–]FluffyOrangeCat 0 points1 point ago

I'm hoping man. I know I still dream, but I never remember any of dreams. I always just remember it being pitch black.

[–]drdinguswoah 0 points1 point ago

I get this a lot, leaves me with Feels the entire day

[–]gtfo-atheist-douches 1 point2 points ago

I oft dream of uncontrollably clenching my teeth as they crack apart in excruciatingly painful realism. Some nights my eyes refuse to close out of fear for what dreams may come.

[–]Jabbatheslann 2 points3 points ago

Damn dude, sorry to hear that shit :(

[–]ModestoNuts 5 points6 points ago

Holy shit! Me too haha

[–]Snipererer 4 points5 points ago

I have been experiencing this as well. However, I never recalled my dreams before I even started to smoke. Now, when I am on a break or just dry, I remember all my dreams and really find it kind of awesome.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

freaky, isnt it? i hate it.

[–]unseelie_sidhe 1 point2 points ago

Same happens to both my husband and I. I had to stop for school, since my clinicals start soon. Vivid ass fucking dreams lately, and all weird as fuck. Better than my husband though, he gets terrible nightmares when he isn't toking.

[–]grodius 0 points1 point ago

this happened to me. i was a smoker all day errday for about 3-4 years and then when I stopped I had a shit load of insanely scary dreams, then they got progressively less scary and just weird and now I have more or less normal dreams. I have a feeling there are unconcious thoughts and feelings not being processed while you're stoned 24/7

[–]ktosk 1 point2 points ago

I still get dreams after I toke... Anyone else too?

[–]uberyeti 0 points1 point ago

I get dreams on most nights, but I'm not an every day smoker.

[–]SuperGandolf6 1 point2 points ago

i have the most vivid and crazy dreams when i go to bed even a little bit high. am i the only one who dreams without quitin for any period of time?

[–]TheStatusBro 1 point2 points ago

I still never get this. For literally as long as i can remember, whether i blazed all day and night or hadn't blazed for weeks, i would always wake up and fully remember my dream from that night. I could literally recall almost everything that happened as if it just happened the day before. I told my roommates one day and they didn't believe me so i started writing down my dreams after waking up every morning. After about 3 months of doing this and filling up almost 100 pages i showed them it. They didn't want to believe me, but the intricacy, detail, and moreover weirdness (and believe me, there was some weird shit in there) of my dream journal was too much to deny.

[–]Typhoid_ 1 point2 points ago

My dreams are completely random. I had to wake up today because I couldn't stand myself moonwalking around in my highschool in footy pajamas...

[–]w00tix 1 point2 points ago

My dreams are pretty weird. Not weird like unicorns and hitler, but weird like mixing non tangible things into my dreams. For instance, I could have an entire dream about solving a simple real world problem at work, but the way I solve the problem (unsuccessfully) is by moving and re-arranging steps on a staircase, lets say. I replace a step and somehow I equate that to gaining some more knowledge I need to solve my problem, until I reach the top of the staircase. It's pretty hard to explain what I mean by that, but it's kind of like objects in my dreams can represent entire memories or concepts to me and I use them like I would anything else in the dream world.

It doesn't make any sense to me either, and I get confused at trying to understand my dreams sometimes.

[–]tribalshit 1 point2 points ago

I saw this and literally yelled "duuude!" because I so intensely relate here. Visiting relatives in MA and on the second morning I was like "woah... I didn't even notice them go away."

[–]BLACKdrew 1 point2 points ago

i had some vivid dreams when i went on vacation haha

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

Shameless self plug for /r/luciddreaming

No dreams from trees is the reason I can't LD :(

[–]stlowkey 1 point2 points ago

Yes, I too have super vivid dreams when I'm at a [0] for a few days. Shall we ask science?

[–]TheGowans 2 points3 points ago

Know what you mean, half way through a forced 4 month break, remembered how much I hate dreaming

[–]OMNIPHILIAC 1 point2 points ago

/r/LucidDreaming might change your mind.

[–]FriendlyVisitor 1 point2 points ago

Oh my God.... it makes sense now. I thought the sleeping pills were the culprit of my dreams... but now I realize it's really sobriety!

I hate sobriety.

[–]hint_of_sage 0 points1 point ago

I love being high, however I also love being sober. I just find enjoyment in many things, I suppose.

[–]vern420 0 points1 point ago

I've had this happen to me a few times. Last one I can remember was messed up. A guy dressed as a tiger came up to me in an ally, grabbed my hang-dang and said, 'This is what you get!' when I woke up I decided it was time to buy some trees again.

[–]imperfect5th 0 points1 point ago

I like it, it gives those few dreams I do have, or remember, more meaning

[–]fullpowerattack 0 points1 point ago

This happens to me with drinking more than trees. If I go on a weeklong bender (see: the last 8 days) where I'm going out every night with friends, I don't have dreams. I took yesterday off (of everything. Urban detox, my ents), so I'm preparing for a full blown LoTR universe vs. Warcraft universe mindfuck tonight.

[–]SmokeShrubbery 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, I've noticed that after 3+ years of daily toking, if I take a few days off I get all sorts of wild crazy dreams. It's not nightmarish, it's just so incredibly unexpected for me to dream (or rather, to recall them), that it's a little disconcerting. Wouldn't say I miss dreaming, really, since before I started smoking on the regular, most of mine tended to be stressful reenactments of my day prior or worst-case-scenarios for the day ahead.

[–]BucketArcher 0 points1 point ago

Im probably wrong but wouldn't having no dreams give you less restfull sleep because you don't reach that level of sleep?

[–]hint_of_sage 0 points1 point ago

You still dream. You don't form the memory of it, but the actual process occurs.

[–]stev0205 0 points1 point ago

I've been dry for a couple days now and I can't say that I've noticed any difference in my dreams... Is it possible I still have that much THC in my system or are some people not prone to these crazy dreams?

[–]XspireSauce 0 points1 point ago

I don't dream much at all, but when I do its after i smoked.

[–]putcreativenamehere 0 points1 point ago

Same. I have never really remembered dreams, and the few I do are NSFW, lol

[–]MobyDank 0 points1 point ago

yeah man, not smoking the whole summer and for the past month every single night i've had the most vivid dreams of my life. i love it though. makes takin the t break a little less boring

[–]runaway491 0 points1 point ago

i only dream in the mornings now, when i can remember them

[–]lennonleninlemon 0 points1 point ago

I dream every night, some more vivid and memorable than others. Trees usually make me dream things that don't really play out episodically than if I went to bed sober.

[–]tabbk99 0 points1 point ago

I'm not an everyday user more like 2-3 times average for a year but I have really vivid dreams if I go to bed high. On the other hand my everyday smoking friend doesn't remember his dreams as well at all.

[–]dmaster3 0 points1 point ago

Craziest thing to do in a dream? Pull out your iPhone and try to google something or use Maps. Your brain doesn't know what will pop up so it will never work. I kept hitting the wrong buttons in my dream and then my iPhone wouldn't work properly. Pretty crazy. I always know I'm dreaming when this happens and then can lucid dream if I remain calm enough.

[–]jlips 0 points1 point ago

I never have dreams anymore unless I'm on a t-break

[–]macdog120 0 points1 point ago

Been almost a week sober and on vacation in Florida, totally noticed it a few days ago. And the best part, when I get back, my tolerance will be super low, so a few rips and I'm at a [7-8] within minutes.

[–]JeremyEnt95 0 points1 point ago

Well I have pretty bad sleep apnea so I don't dream anyways... :(

[–]YogurtShaker 0 points1 point ago

Am I the only one who still dreams when I'm high? Like, I will dream more vividly when I go to bed high, or when I've smoked within the past few days. Instead of my dreams being random though, I feel like they bring out situations I'm feeling strongly about.

[–]Trystlol 0 points1 point ago

I didn't dream or at least I wasn't able to remember my dreams before smoking. Now when I take breaks I know what it is like to have dreams, it is pretty cool :)

[–]Billmurrionaire 0 points1 point ago

I LOVE my dreams. I'm glad this effect doesn't apply to me.
