Nope.

Inevitably, at some point, someone's daughter or wife will have to be smuggled ashore. They don't look too well, but it's probably just a cold and certainly in no way related to all this zombie-ness kicking about. Or the bandage on their arm.

All new arrivals must wait on the quarantine boat for double the normal incubation time of the Z virus before being allowed on the island. Anyone attempting to bypass this measure will be shot.

Yeah but the guy guarding quarantine is some kind of drugjunkie and the new arrivals have drugs so he let's one of them in. He seems a bit fucked up and pale, but he's probably just taken some drugs to help cope with shit.

Turns out the drugs are bath salts.

Guy guarding boat is not the same guy as the guy with the shuttle boat to take you from the quarantine boat (which is anchored ~500 yards out) to the docks. The docks which are also guarded.

I'm proud to say I owe this to my father. Ever since I was a small child he goes over all the mistakes the people in movies and TV shows make in detail along with what would be a better solution that he would use in their situation. Serious question (or as serious of a question as one can ask about zombies): In the generally accepted mythos, would this be a viable tactic at all? Would an island be helpful or would the undead just walk beneath the water (as in some movies I believe)? Wouldn't they sort of float around like buoys and rot really quickly in the ocean? Wouldn't they freeze in the north? And wouldn't they generally rot away in most climates after several months?

I always kind of wondered about those points. Any takers?

It looks like even if the zombies walked/floated to the island, it would be terribly hard to scale the rocks. Also, I'm assuming the zombies are bleeding. Blood+seawater=sharks.

My concern on an island is supplies. You would need a reliable source of supplies. Then set up some sort of Port of Entry and Customs. Also how can you get to the island? Anchor a ship about a mile out, then go in by helicopter.

Rationing supplies can cause uneasiness and aggression for the inhabitants so you would need some sort of authority.

Well you could read World War Z ... undead don't float for very long and once water logged they don't seem to rot very quickly.. they do freeze in the north but so do you...zombie flesh does not rot like live flesh.. for it is zombie flesh and all the critters and bugs that eat living flesh cant eat zombie flesh....sharks wont eat them...nothing wants to eat freaking zombie cause its gross.

Read it and loved it. What about bacteria eating zombies? I just have a hard time understanding why they wouldn't just rot and fall apart after 6 months. Or how about all that blood in them? That's got to harden up and congeal after awhile right? It'd be like the tin man or something...Maybe i should go ask /r/askscience? They might hurt me though...

Zombies are unnatural and kind of like Twinkies, nothing eats them and without decay you do not have issues with tissue falling apart. Rigamortis sets in like 8-12 hours (Roughly) after death and then fades within 24 hours. To be honest I don't think that even that would matter because without decay you would not likely suffer from rigamortis. Blood does congeal but I would think that they would just power threw it paying it no mind at all. The real problem I have with zombies is why does the brain need to be intact... they cant starve to death so no metabolism is taking place so the brain cant be firing neurons... so what does it matter if its intact or not?... i dunno i guess that is the magic!
