You didn't say anything about fat people, and I didn't say you did. I'm merely saying it's hypocritical of of our society in general (NOT you specifically) IF they defend their own freedom to do dangerous things like not use helmets or seat belts, etc. while simultaneously: 1) hating on fat people for supposedly costing us money in higher health insurance rates (typically a left wing tendency), or 2) argue against a person's right to assisted suicide or abortion (typically a right wing tendency)

I just see many people claiming to be for more personal freedom and less intrusive government, but then only supporting the freedoms that affect them, while actively working to take away the freedoms that affect others, on the basis of taxes or religion.

Like it or not, our government does have some sort of role as a nanny for our protection and benefit. That's the entire reason for many government departments, laws and initiatives from both right-wing and left-wing initiatives. Even Bush-era policies like SOL testing in schools, the wars In the middle east, the entire DOD, DHS, TSA, DOJ, FBI, CIA, DOS, FDA, HHS, SEC, police, etc. etc. We're just quibbling about what exactly that nanny role is, and whether we're going to pay the taxes needed to do those things.
