Older than the internet. I ordered a tape in 3rd or 4th grade of funny videos and this was on it. This might literally be older than the fucking internet.

[–]Fantastic_Mr_Fister 51 points52 points ago

I first saw it via limewire. It was floating around as "FUNNY VIDEO KID FALLS OFF DIVING BOARD IN KAYAK FLIPS ON FACE HILARIOUS."

Or something like that.

[–]Fanta-stick 65 points66 points ago

The title really sells it.

[–]sean85 3 points4 points ago

The "FUNNY" at the start and "HILARIOUS" at the end made me watch it.

[–]Karma_in_ma_pants 11 points12 points ago

Limewire? I'm surprised it didn't turn out to be another porn file.

[–]ghs145 10 points11 points ago

A lot of the porn titled torrent were actually just some guy with music playing in the background just talking. I tried to decode it once and he was talking about some foreign countries economy. Fucked up shit man.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points ago

That shit stays with you.

[–]Ry_Gor 1 point2 points ago

ALL THE FUCKING TIME. I was always afraid I'd have to explain how that happened to my parents, if I forgot to check all the files I'd downloaded right away.

[–]Seruz 3 points4 points ago

Bearshare is where it was at man

[–]gzupan 0 points1 point ago

Napster is pretty good

[–]ARCHA1C 5 points6 points ago

And if you search Reddit for "kayak" this gif is one of the top results under the title "kayak fail"

[–]FireFight 5 points6 points ago

Could you perhaps upload this tape?

[–]az4z3l 5 points6 points ago

B-b-but copyright.. Piracy.. Theft.. Stealing cars..

[–]LordSocky 9 points10 points ago

You wouldn't print counterfeit rain

[–]Parthide 16 points17 points ago

The origins of the Internet reach back to research of the 1960s

[–]Thefriendlyfaceplant 33 points34 points ago

Well I researched the 1960's a couple of weeks ago on Wikipedia so it can't be that old.

[–]Magnesus 9 points10 points ago

I read about Roman Empire on Wikipedia so Internet must be from the time of Caesar!

[–]Gooberpatrol66 3 points4 points ago

That's from LotR, you liar!

[–]TACOfarmerXD 0 points1 point ago

Good to know the Goober Patrol is at its best right now.

[–]DunDunDunDuuun 0 points1 point ago

Where do you think google comes from? It's clearly latin!

[–]jlking3 0 points1 point ago

I thought it was Unicode.

[–]az4z3l 1 point2 points ago

It wasn't the Internet back then. The Internet wasn't created until 1983 (?).

[–]Panic-Attack 0 points1 point ago

It wasn't called the internet, but it was the same thing, internet was coined much later.

The World Wide Web on the other had was born around 1990

[–]az4z3l 0 points1 point ago

Well I am a little rusty on my internet history, but I believe when the Internet was formally established, the major protocols were implemented.

[–]Pinoth 0 points1 point ago

ordered a tape

How

[–]paulw252 0 points1 point ago

The back of a magazine. Maybe boys life? I don't remember.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

No way! the internet has been around forever, I can't believe that!

[–]ZeroNihilist 10 points11 points ago

If the internet doesn't real then how did the Romans let the world know what they ate for breakfast?

[–]Thefriendlyfaceplant 0 points1 point ago

Indeed, just another incredulous sheep underestimating the power of the Mayans.

[–]bcardarella 34 points35 points ago

That's a physics

[–]Dentarthurdent42 0 points1 point ago

Grazie, Galileo!

[–]theleftrightnut 1 point2 points ago

What a deal!

[–]SrsSteel 0 points1 point ago

You guys have left me guessing..

[–]theleftrightnut 1 point2 points ago

It was a bunch of advertising.

[–]TheAtomicPlayboy 29 points30 points ago

I'm pleased to report that went exactly how I expected it to.

[–]feltman 2 points3 points ago

As a kayaker, this is actually a fun thing to happen.

It shouldn't hurt unless you don't tuck the paddle at he last second.

[–]WeldingMouse 12 points13 points ago

Part of me wonders if you could build a vehicle that would fall at terminal-velocity into a body of water and let a passenger survive by using this type of motion...

[–]neoquietus 2 points3 points ago

See the esacpe lifeboats on certain large ships; they fall from quite a distance.

[–]SanFransicko 3 points4 points ago

Yeah, but those are just designed like that so that they'll work even if the ship has a severe list or trim. They're also a last means of survival and are strictly a one-way trip.

[–]AgCrew 1 point2 points ago

Those things scare the crap out of me. They did a test of some of them in the north sea and many just smashed apart on impact.

[–]sarevok9 2 points3 points ago

Link please?

[–]burritocmdr 0 points1 point ago

That is an interesting thought. It could certainly be a secondary safety design of the capsule in case the parachute is damaged or does not open.

[–]Tiby312 -3 points-2 points ago

I'm thinking the vehicle would have to be very heavy so that waves don't effect it's angle before diving and sturdy so it can withstand all the pressure as it dives. Can't think of any practical uses seeing as we don't usually have big heavy sturdy things falling from the sky anyhow.

[–]the_second 4 points5 points ago

Two words: Zeppelin lifeboats.

[–]WhyAmINotStudying 8 points9 points ago

Are you kidding? We're on the cusp of the age of commercial space travel and you can't think of a practical application for a vehicle that could provide a survivable fall at terminal velocity? Look at what NASA has Curiosity doing as it lands on Mars. That's how you get a really soft landing when entering a planet.

Of course, this hypothetical system wouldn't be applicable on Mars, but SpaceX Dragon Currently uses the same parachute system that the Apollo capsules used back in the 60's. Putting together a means of safely returning humans and cargo at terminal velocity would be a hell of a feat.

[–]Tiby312 0 points1 point ago

My point was that using such a vehicle to enter water would have to be heavy and sturdy while a vehicle just using a parachute wouldn't have to be as heavy or sturdy.

Sure when entering an atmosphere it makes sense just dive in, but atmosphere increases in density gradually. While diving into water is sudden. It's just not as strenuous on the vehicle if it slows down before you hit the water than only slowing down when you're in it. That's why I don't see the practical application.

[–]power_of_friendship 0 points1 point ago

Parachutes are a pretty old and reliable technology. That's why we'll keep using them at our current level of space flight.

[–]WhyAmINotStudying 0 points1 point ago

Agreed. We keep using wrenches and screwdrivers, too. Just the same, a device engineered to be survivable like this would be incredible, if only for a safety net in the event that a parachute fails.

[–]power_of_friendship 1 point2 points ago

Surprisingly, you can survive pretty intense falls if you position yourself correctly. I wouldn't be too surprised to see an orbital drop device like that. Again, it's still just easier to make a really safe parachute than to make the kind of stuff that drops Curiosity.

[–]rieldealIV 4 points5 points ago

[–]dimebagsh 2 points3 points ago

That "stunt", hurts. You get you tiny little feetsies all crushed in the tip of the kajak, and then it all flips up side down, as if fate it self needed you in a state of coma.

[–]GrinningPariah 7 points8 points ago

You can see the moment of panic right before the last hit when he flails the oar like he can do something about it.

[–]funkyfox 2 points3 points ago

I keep watching the woman's leg move, as if she's trying to move the kayak a certain way *telekinetically.

[–]sophware 0 points1 point ago

do you mean telekinetically? i focused on that, too.

[–]funkyfox 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, that.

[–]xanax_anaxa 0 points1 point ago

It actually looks like after a moment of personal WTF he lowers his paddle it so it does not smash him in the face. I was actually impressed by his quick reaction, if indeed he did it on purpose.

[–]flying_tiger_ 4 points5 points ago

Does anyone else get that thing where the gif plays in slow motion the first time? This was one of those times when it improved the gif.

[–]UndeadPirateLeChuck 7 points8 points ago

it does that because a gif is comprised of multiple frames, and you are getting the frames as your computer loads them. The slowmo effect will be reduced on a faster connection, and exaggerated on a slower one.

[–]pepperss 1 point2 points ago

[–]-jimmyjack- 1 point2 points ago

I'm just curious as to how many times this has been reposted and how it still gets to the front page

[–]betaboxx 1 point2 points ago

i think i saw this on my os/2 warp computer.

[–]paddlegal 1 point2 points ago

Soz to pop your balloon. Participant is landing up-side-down on purpose practicing his 'roll' or his under water exit.

[–]theomossop 0 points1 point ago

Well, I doubt they really knew what way they'd land

[–]tbai 1 point2 points ago

Is it just me or does the dude sitting under the diving board look gigantic?

[–]eatcrayons 1 point2 points ago

This was submitted a week ago to the same subreddit. If it makes you laugh so much, just save it and watch it on your own time. You don't need to repost it.

[–]IknowthisIknowthis 2 points3 points ago

I like how he keeps the paddle above his head ALMOST the entire time, only once he's moving towards the water a second time does he realize something is amiss.

[–]larson92 0 points1 point ago

What the hell was he thinking?

[–]wackyninja 6 points7 points ago

It would be fun

[–]ReigninLikeA_MoFo 0 points1 point ago

The kid was obviously training/practicing for a real kayak trip.

[–]theomossop 0 points1 point ago

Looks fun, I'd love to do it, as long as the paddle doesn't hit your face you just roll back up and go again

[–]gDAnother 1 point2 points ago

is that a canoe polo boat? respect

[–]GrayStudios 1 point2 points ago

I cannot imagine this going any other way. What were they expecting?

[–]aadams214 0 points1 point ago

Kind of what I was thinking. What was he supposed to do?

I've felt this way about The Exorcist for Years

[–]kstetsko21 0 points1 point ago

Alright, new idea guys, kayak pogo sticks.

[–]TossTime 0 points1 point ago

This also gets funnier every time I watch it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZ8fTgQvrMA

[–]Snarlio 0 points1 point ago

This is the one I thought of.

[–]bdogg54 0 points1 point ago

Well that looks kinda like a squirt boat, so he was doing it partially right.... but in a pool...

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

That post title usually means to me that something as funny as someone getting hit in the crotch is coming up. That kayak kid has broken with that tradition.

[–]GoLightLady 0 points1 point ago

Lol! Yes it does!

[–]ubernuke 0 points1 point ago

I've never been in a kayak, so could someone tell me if he would have been able to get out by himself or if people would have needed to rush in to flip the kayak over?

[–]terk- 1 point2 points ago

One of the first things you learn is how to flip yourself over with the paddle

[–]ubernuke 0 points1 point ago

Thanks! I'm guessing "do not go off a diving board in your kayak" was not another one of those first things.

[–]iGoByManyNames 0 points1 point ago

So if you, OP, kept watching this two or three times a day until the end of your life, it would become progressively funnier and funnier every time the gif looped, so you would eventuallly be placed into uncontrollable hysterics by the end of your days. I hope you realise how easily you've let yourself be controlled.

[–]RzK 0 points1 point ago

Not even a smirk on my face

[–]J4Seriously 0 points1 point ago

It was mildly funny when I saw it four days ago.... not even a little bit now.

[–]mydogwatchesmejerkit 0 points1 point ago

this kills the pool

[–]perfsurf 0 points1 point ago

I love that he keeps his arms up right until the last second. "Wait...Wait I still got this".

[–]IAmAnObvioustrollAMA 0 points1 point ago

I don't know why but i find the kicking gentleman on the left to be the real star of this show!

[–]Bakufun 0 points1 point ago

'This gets funnier to me every time I repost it.'

[–]ManCity 0 points1 point ago

Really, because to me it seems just as funny as the first time it was posted.

[–]Iffywizard 0 points1 point ago

The part that gets me is the guy on the side of the pool kicking his leg at the exact moment of impact.

[–]originalsteveoh 0 points1 point ago

I've decided that the sound being made here is "Gnhhhhhnnn... Pbbtttt."

[–]pikacz 0 points1 point ago

i think i saw the on the first day i discovered the internet

[–]bloodfyr 0 points1 point ago

I actually laughed out loud. I never do that to stuff on this subreddit.

Also, lots of people in here need to read the Reddiquette

First time I tried that (of a boat not in a swimming pool) was similar to this. My thoughts where "oh sh...gurgle gurgle bulb bulb"

[–]Fledinko 0 points1 point ago

Dat Buoyancy!

[–]LetsTalkAboutJesus -4 points-3 points ago

Sadly it does not get any funnier each time it's reposted.

[–]putrid_poo_nugget -1 points0 points ago

Doesn't get funnier when you repost it, though.

[–]OthoJNoggle -1 points0 points ago

And so naturally reposting it is the only way to keep watching it.

[–]Nidhogg777 -1 points0 points ago

wtf is happening to reddit. These fucking old pics/gifs popping infront page.

[–]blueturtle00 5 points6 points ago

First time I've seen it. Thanks OP

[–]StfuAboutReposts -1 points0 points ago

First time for me too

[–]Nidhogg777 -1 points0 points ago

first or last, it's old.

[–]jonny_boy27 -4 points-3 points ago

Should've boofed it

[–]timecronus -4 points-3 points ago

no matter the number of times reposted, he will never land in the water right :(

[–]iampoopymcflurry -1 points0 points ago

He seems so exited with his arms up in the air...

[–]gringosucio -1 points0 points ago

HEY BRO how did you get into my kazaa lite folder from 1994?

[–]mradequatepants -1 points0 points ago

This gets less funny the more it gets posted.

Wow, everyone welcome the new Duke of GetFucked.

[–]efg1342 4 points5 points ago

Oarly?

[–]Foldedpaper 0 points1 point ago

I saw an extended version of this video where he gets out of the canoe and smashing the place up. It was the worst case of rowed-rage I've ever seen.

[–]OriginalUsername1 -3 points-2 points ago

Can kayak you why you expected puns? Or better yet, canoe specify exactly what kind of puns you came for?

Edit/ Yep, this is going to get downvoted to oblivion. (and rightfully so I suppose, I contributed nothing at all to the conversation aside from weak puns) Well, I will not abandon my sinking ship of a comment however. Note to self, never participate in pun threads.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]poon-is-food 0 points1 point ago

fuck pun threads.

[–]sizzlekid -2 points-1 points ago

Kayaks you why you hate puns so much?

[–]poon-is-food 1 point2 points ago

because they're terrible and cancer.

Its not like I dont have a sense of humour, I just dont like pun threads or jokes that are just puns, because I just imagine some stupid smiling face of some guy saying it that I just want to hit with a shovel.

[–]mknyan -5 points-4 points ago

Guy: "FUCK YOU WATER"

Water: "Lol... NOPE!"

[–]AbigailRoseHayward -2 points-1 points ago

I saw this in Failblog when I was 9.

[–]ZeekySantos -2 points-1 points ago

Good, because it's a repost and you'll likely be seeing it again. I saw it just last week.

[–]Eddie_The_Brewer -2 points-1 points ago

No, it doesn't get funnier every time I watch it. First 50 or 60 times tops.

[–]XxToriwolfxX 3 points4 points ago

-Twat waffle Best insult i've heard all year.

[–]mazizzo 1 point2 points ago

Not to be confused with the blue waffle.

[–]Satans_pro_tips 1 point2 points ago

I've seen butt waffle after a girl stands up from sitting on a lawn chair. Twat waffle is new though.

[–]Lord_Fluffykins 1 point2 points ago

If she does The A.C. Slater you see twat waffle.
