I tried to take my cat for a walk once. We took a 10 foot drag collecting a large amount of leaves that were on the ground instead.

I have been trying to train my cat to do this...

So far she has stopped falling over every time she tries to walk. She's also gotten quite good at slipping out of the harness no matter how tight I get it.

I think it will be a while before I take her to the park.

May I suggest a harness for a small dog? It has a thick piece for the chest and wraps around. My cat hated the kind similar to the one in the picture but she walks around fine with the dog harness

Buy one of those harnesses... I think we got ours from Petco for ~$8. We also use a retractable leash. Everyday for a week or two put to the harness on the cat for about 15 minutes then give her treats and praise her and play with her (laser beam to distract her from her shackles). Then start taking her out to your steps, etc... slowly you'll get her used to it. Talk to her a lot when she is outside and let her know you are there with her.

My cat walks me from the car to the apartment three floors up without missing a beat! Its really fun to watch her. She is like a kid, at first she knew to go up the stairs and she knew which side of the building was hers so she would stop at the door beneath us and then I would have to push/pull and prod her up the steps further. Now she stops at the door for a second until I walk by her (without saying anything) and then shoots by me!

This is a bengal cat, its a special breed and is very expensive. Its a housecat, it could hurt other animals and could easily be stolen if someone would recongnize this kind of cat. Normally you walk around with a leash because of these reasons.

I too am an owner of this breed of cat.

Had a rescued female Japanese bobtail that apparently thought she was a dog. She played fetch tirelessly (though only with one specific ball), came when called every time, and walked perfectly on a leash/harness combination. Took her to a local park regularly where I would take her out in a large, open, grassy field area and let her off the leash. She would allow me to walk maybe 100 feet away from her and then sprint to my side and sit down at my feet. She never once wandered off, and always followed me. She also LOVED to ride in the car, this in the days before I was smart enough to realize that not being restrained in the car was unsafe - and her favorite spot was lying in the back window, entertaining traffic behind me with her "no fucks given" attitude about riding in the car. Now I have a wiener dog who thinks he's a cat. Wtf?
