Actually it was used to test typewriters and the such, not as training. Although I guess you could use it either way. It's useful because it has every letter in the alphabet in a single sentence.

Most common place I remember seeing it in modern times is in examining and testing out fonts. If you open up any font file it'll upp up this phrase over and over in all different sizes.

      I just get cranky when the exact same picture appears 6 times in a row in the new queue, or pops up four times a week. It's one thing to repost something from a month or two ago (though it'd be nice if people would credit the original), but to keep putting it up over and over again is just annoying.

          It's because think of it this way, If MOST people (lets say 95% of reddit) has seen an image. Then it takes the space of what could be decent content. So if you look at it that way whats worse:

          -Space getting taken up by an image that MOST people have seen

          -The chance that 5% won't see the image.

          Now how or why you haven't seen this image......I have no idea since it's at least 4-5 years old. But it's better to just take the self sacrifice and not repost and allow NEW content otherwise you will be seeing the same image for the next 4-5 years.

          I doubt that 95% have seen it, it can't be THAT common, two million people browse this, and most for less than a full 24 hours.

          I'll say it would be brutal if I saw this everytime I logged in, But I don't, I haven't seen it in whole year of browsing. So, there should be an acceptable time period between the first posting and allowing for a repost, to find a middle ground.

          There is, And I completely agree. I actually have zero problem with reposts if there's a "given" time between them. Problem is there isn't, and if you browse /r/new (Hint: Don't ever browse /r/new) you'll prolly see the same image again. Maybe 95% is too high, but def. More than 70%. Im not complaining im just saying that if the mentality of "I haven't seen it so it's ok to repost" is "Ok" then this image couldn't be reposted 100 times in a week (Obviously it's not that bad).

          HOWEVER I have seen in Worst case scenarios images be reposted 4-5 times in a week and still get upvoted to the top of the page (Obviously this doesn't happen very often...but when it does...jesus).

          MY Dream of reddit is a Tool/Server Script that will check for an Image repost with EVERY image (Like a quick tineye reddit check...) And if the image has been reposted in the past 3-4 weeks....then it will not allow you to post (But instead redirect you to the Link where it was posted before). Sadly this will never happen, even I wouldn't mind waiting like an extra 10-20 seconds for it to "check". It'd be worth it completely.

            This sentence was how my entire elementary school found out I was a nerd. A Ms. America hopeful was visiting our school and she was talking about dyslexia awareness, and how she's dyslexic and how people shouldn't be ashamed of it and you shouldn't make fun of kids who have it and blah, blah, blah...

            She puts up an image of a sentence that's all scrambled with numbers and letters rearranged and backwards and upside down. So she says, "This is how a dyslexic person might see this sentence. Can anyone out there read it?" And I yell, "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog!"

            Obviously, nobody had ever answered correctly because she was visibly taken aback. "How... how did you know that?!" she asked. And I reply, "It's a standard test sentence for word processing and design programs on computers, because it uses every letter of the alphabet." Mind you, I'm in 4th grade. The very next day I was moved to the 6th grade level computer course.
