I think what tipped me off was the female judge's reaction. That's the face I make when I remember I've left the oven on, not when someone gets shot in the eye and dies five feet in front of me.

As someone who has seen someone literally get ran over and die on impact I can say that that face could easily be genuine, as I myself wasn't able to react other then leaving a blank stare then going "The fuck just happened".

I've seen people die, and I've seen people around people who have died. They usually don't start jumping around screaming like monkeys; those reactions are about what I'd expect.

I figured it was sketch for a show though, like Dave Chappelle's reality show skit.

If it's a fake, the video producers must be in on it. You can see the arrow go past the curtain in front of the guy who gets hit.

I can think of how this would be done as a magic trick, with some kind of retractable fake arrow popping out of the victim's head and the arrow in the bow going into a compartment in the bow; but there really seems to be an arrow going by. There's even an artifact in the gif from it. Perhaps the guy has a serious facial defect and is being shot in a part of his mask.

Second edit: Why the fuck did I even waste my time? Check out the video. It's obviously gone through post-production. Someone cut through the frames to make it into a show afterwards. Unless Russians are seriously used to seeing people die on their talent shows, this is obviously a fake. If someone died like that, it wouldn't have gone through that kind of scene arrangement.

gif's would be huge files if there wasn't some form of compression - so what the gif does is it takes the frame - and compares it the previous frame - and it only makes the new pixels if something changed leaving everything else blank - that's why its all kinda white (the white is a representation for nothing) because the new pixels are just overlayed onto the previous picture for while until they cut to the judges view and its all new pixels to be overwritten from the previous frame (also notice how the camera got jerked slightly while they were focusing for bit on the stunt and it all changed slightly

What you're seeing is just normal GIF artifacts. There are no relations betweens frames in an animated GIF, it's just a sequence of unrelated still images.

actually gifs compress by using indexed colors. There's no relation between frames in a gif. The artifacts are probably from the jpeg encoding the original video had.

To save size, the gif is like the scenea from scooby doo--there's a background image, and there's a separate sheet for the part that changes. So the background (which is the curtain and floor) should stay the same while only the parts which move change. The fact that there are unnatural squares showing up suggests an entire clip has been cut and pasted in.

I have the exact same bow and I know how strong that bow is. At the distance they were standing and the amount he drew his bow, it would definitely have done what was shown in the video. Trick arrow? Maybe, would be pretty pro if it was though since arrows need to be extremely fine tuned to be at all accurate, and if this was a trick, accuracy would be key.

Added note: The bow is only like $100-$120. It's a cheapy beginners bow.

It's a fake, if you look closely the "victim" braces himself for the impact with the floor. If he'd truly been shot in the head he'd have fallen like a sack of potatoes. The Snopes.com theory that it's part of a viral marketing campaign seems plausible to me.
