And by the time you get over there, they've moved on to something you have no clue about.

[–]hoopstick 43 points44 points ago

"Hey, you know that thing you were talking about 45 seconds ago that you no doubt don't care about anymore? Yeah, well it wasn't Reginald VelJohnson, it was Yaphet Kotto."

Black character actors!

[–]cualcrees 125 points126 points ago

For me it's more like this

[–]DrizzX 44 points45 points ago

The whole time you're dying a little inside because of how unbelievably incorrect they are.

[–]bobthecrusher 12 points13 points ago

And if you try to correct them they laugh, call you a cunt, and ignore whatever it was you were saying.

[–]Enterice 6 points7 points ago

Or if you're American, they call you an elitist.

[–]Jman5 7 points8 points ago

The secret is the pad their ego while correcting them.

[–]John_um 0 points1 point ago

You can always try correcting them without being a cunt about it.

[–]bobthecrusher 0 points1 point ago

But....they have to know I'm better than them....

Mass Effect 3, Shepard sees two random people arguing about anything at all, and steps in to take a side.

[–]Dr_Explosion 4 points5 points ago

I'm so glad they did away with all those tedious side-missions in favour of picking a side in an argument and scanning a planet! I mean, who in the nine hells actually liked ME 1's missions; landing on planets, driving around, discovering things and then going to the designated mission shed. And ME 2's missions were 10X worse!; a large hub world with a few main missions and several smaller side missions, and out in the galaxy, there were several side missions, a bunch of them connected an a small arc. I meant come on, that sense of exploration and the feeling of actually being in a large, living, universe was clearly hurting the series. Thank the maker they ditched that dead weight in favour of planet scanning and press button, get reward type missions.

You turn into a horse? That could be awkward.

[–]wtfisdisreal[S] 25 points26 points ago

Maybe I'm already a horse

[–]wtfisdisreal[S] 4 points5 points ago

Depends. How good can you juggle?

[–]HORSE_COCK_JUGGLER 3 points4 points ago

I juggle very well. PM me your number. :D

I love watching people argue about climate change.. especially when their sources are Fox News vs MSNBC.

Fun fact: climate change isn't making it really hot right now.

[–]Sazabi00 19 points20 points ago

Isn't it La Nina that's causing this huge heat wave that I'm absolutely HATING WITH ALL OF MY SOUL?!

[–]kevmo 22 points23 points ago

I miss el niño, that guy was cool.

[–]benhop 31 points32 points ago

Spanish for...The niño.

I'm actually surprised that wasn't aired on The Weather Channel.

[–]DamoJakov 2 points3 points ago

Australia here. Keep it the way it is, the switch from El Nino to La Nina (or vice versa) broke our continent wide 25-year drought.

[–]xHassassin 2 points3 points ago

You got it mixed up, El nino causes dry weather and draughts, La nina brings in rain and floods.

**Not relevant for all geographic areas, el nino/la nina have different effects on different parts of the world. La nina does bring in wet weather to the US and monsoons to India though.

[–]bobthecrusher 0 points1 point ago

If it floods in one place then doesn't that logically mean that it would cause droughts in others?

[–]citylikeAMradio 0 points1 point ago

ENSO (El Nino and La Nina) is actually in a slightly positive phase (barely El Nino) and is forecast to increase over the next few months. Here is a really quick but detailed fact sheet on El Nino's impact on the world. (From the Climate Prediction Center).

[–]HATERS_SHALL_HATE 5 points6 points ago

What is it then?

[–]citylikeAMradio 2 points3 points ago

A large high pressure has been slowly moving across eastern North America (slowly is consistent with summer patterns- that's climatology) and has brought in warm moist air from the gulf. Along with clear skies (which means lots of surface heating from the sun) and high dew points and night time breezes (which prevent night time cooling) the temperature has been able to build to the death sauna that it is today.

Edit: I suck at wording- why I didn't study anything related to Journalism

[–]H19 1 point2 points ago

And what has caused the high pressure?

[–]citylikeAMradio 2 points3 points ago

High pressure on the surface is caused by sinking air. Sinking air in the northern hemisphere on a large scale (for the eastern half of the USA this week for example) can be caused by a ridge in the jet stream. As the air aloft spins clockwise under the ridge it deflects to the right (left in the southern hemisphere) because of the earths rotation (Coriolis force) and the air is squeezed into this area. This convergence in the upper levels causes air to eject downward. This sinking air causes a high pressure area at the surface.

Happy to follow up if you want to know more!

[–]ghegeman 1 point2 points ago

I was under the impression that loss of arctic sea ice affects the amplitude of jet stream troughs and ridges, and therefore climate change is one of the causes but not in the typical "durr its hot, global warming man," way we see on the news. More like "it would have been hot already, but because we've lost sea ice its going to be a doozy."

[–]Lewke 2 points3 points ago

You think OP will deliver?

[–]Stickittome 1 point2 points ago

There are no causal relationships between climate change and specific weather events. However, climate change does exacerbate already extreme weather and increases the likeliness of floods, droughts and heat waves.

[–]Rathminer 2 points3 points ago

anyone know the source/film?

[–]gamerholic 14 points15 points ago

Tangled

[–]rarecabbage 16 points17 points ago

and if you haven't seen it, watch it. It's adorable and definitely the highlight of Disney's recent animated films.

[–]highTrolla 3 points4 points ago

Step aside mares.

[–]CptKittenNose 0 points1 point ago

Permission to use in future situations that potentially have little to no prior horse references?

[–]highTrolla 1 point2 points ago

Oof... I dunno, that's a tough call.

[–]CptKittenNose 12 points13 points ago

I had this exact moment not long ago when a group of girls from my class were doing the New York crossword and the clue was something about a common Dungeons and Dragons monster. They were bickering over it because none of them had ever played before. I literally stood, cracked my knuckles and walked across the room, stood behind them and cleared my throat, saying "I got this."

[–]Sebenza 19 points20 points ago

So how many years until you turn into a wizard?

[–]CptKittenNose 1 point2 points ago

Too many, my friend. Far too many.

[–]kabomlamma 6 points7 points ago

I literally stood

did it hurt?

[–]CptKittenNose 0 points1 point ago

It was worth it to prove my prowess to those poor, hapless ladies.

[–]HalfSquirrel 1 point2 points ago

Happens to me so often, then when I try to say something that will probably clear up everything, or is the answer to a question they couldn't answer, they just shrug me off and ignore what I say completely!

[–]cheese_without_toast 1 point2 points ago

What's this from? I recognize it.

[–]ricky1030 0 points1 point ago

Tangled I heard someone say! Im gonna watch it because of this. I always see it popping out at me on Netflix.

[–]bpnyz 2 points3 points ago

And a few moments later you look like a total dick. Kudos, bro.

[–]ProperSauce 0 points1 point ago

Oh man I sure do hate this lol.

Well, then, you just help eliminate something that was preventing an eventual solution.

[–]brownman94 0 points1 point ago

This gif should be titled "War Horse."

[–]tagbadger 0 points1 point ago

Sometimes I see people I know arguing about something I'm knowledgeable about, but both clearly know next to nothing about the topic. In those cases, I usually just let it go for entertainment value. Only if they start saying things that make me cringe do I feel the need to step in and help out.

[–]lolcheme 0 points1 point ago

Fugacity, bitches.

Any more "shitty" visits to the movie theaters?

[–]SimbaKid -5 points-4 points ago

This is the exact reason I want to be a doctor; so I can drop some knowledge on some fools.

[–]Quas36Oh 14 points15 points ago

Please do not become a doctor

[–]SimbaKid 0 points1 point ago

Why not?

[–]tavernkeeper 2 points3 points ago
