Can one purchase one of these?

[–]SIL40 14 points15 points ago

[–]minichado 4 points5 points ago

Handcrafted?

looks at price

I call shenanigans.

[–]SIL40 0 points1 point ago

I was thinking that too. If it were really handcrafted it would take forever to make all those keys.

[–]LiteralTester 3 points4 points ago

Actually... That's not a bad price. I may order one for the shear awesomeness.

[–]DJUrsus 3 points4 points ago

*sheer

[–]bschroe 2 points3 points ago

Actually, I believe LiteralTester planned to use the keyboard to trim hair.

[–]inkrat 6 points7 points ago

Look at the customer notes on the amazon one and read the newegg reviews.

This is your normal badly designed keyboard with a glossy finish.

[–]Phreakhead 2 points3 points ago

Seems like it mostly got good reviews on Amazon...

[–]Ham_on_Rye 2 points3 points ago

I've seen bad reviews on newegg

[–]LiteralTester 1 point2 points ago

Yeah that's what I'm seeing now... :(

What's plan 'B'?

[–]Hitch_42 -1 points0 points ago

The Impecca one is different from the one shown in the picture. You can see the same markings on this one and it says Bamboo Technology. The Impecca ones seem to have a few issues from the reviews...

[–]deidru 2 points3 points ago

My Dad got one of these as a gift when he retired, but much nicer looking dark wood. Completely horrible to use. Plus it needs to be polished c.the finish wears.

[–]dxcotre 12 points13 points ago

Good luck cleaning the cum outta that.

[–]hansblitz 0 points1 point ago

You know you could aim somewhere else; but yes I see cleaning could be an issue.

[–]dxcotre 2 points3 points ago

Wait, I thought a keyboard was supposed to double as a cumcatch?

[–]jakebluu -1 points0 points ago

Mine does. It drips out the bottom. I wash it once a month.

[–]NegativeC00L 22 points23 points ago

Why stop at the mouse wheel?

[–]goodBEan 8 points9 points ago

Proabably it would be hard to craft. Typically mouse wheels have a rubber ring glued on to a plastic wheel. It would be a pain in the ass to remove the rubber and put wood on it.

[–]NegativeC00L 5 points6 points ago

Couldn't you just make the whole thing out of bamboo? Doesn't seem like it would be any harder than making a shirt button.

[–][deleted] 38 points39 points ago

I'm sure you, a redditor who has seen one picture of the device, has a far better insight into producing bamboo mice than the people who painstakingly put this one together.

[–]goodBEan 2 points3 points ago

Have you ever taken a mouse apart? The mouse wheels have these tiny little holes to allow a light beam through, its a way for the mouse to see the wheel is moving. Making it out of wood would require some precise drilling.

[–]Plornt 0 points1 point ago

Odd, my sindwinder x8 mouse has a thing pushed against it with a spring that which I assume does pratically the same thing as the light beam thing. Although I also assume thats why it broke within a month.

(Or I am looking at the wrong thing and am looking at the thing that makes it click)

[–]Pteraspidomorphi 0 points1 point ago

Yes, the bit of springy wire makes the clicking noises.

[–]AngryData 1 point2 points ago

Depending on what kind of mouse wheel it is they may have had to replace the tiny gearing on the mouse wheel itself which you can't do well with wood. They probably planned on it but decided it wasn't worth the effort when they opened it up.

[–]Genmaken 1 point2 points ago

Yes, since normally it's the rubber that gets put on the wood.

[–]audacious1 0 points1 point ago

ic what you did there ;)

[–]midir 0 points1 point ago

I expect for texture. Rubber is soft and grippy. Wood wouldn't work as well.

[–]hieronymous-cowherd 8 points9 points ago

I bought mine at Pier1 in Austin, Texas. Here's three shots starting with this thread as background! http://imgur.com/a/LCPAn

Retail price was $49.99 for the keyboard and $26.99 for the mouse; I bought them for $10 each.

They work fine, nice tactile key travel and layout on the keyboard. There are extra buttons for the browser (the old IE logo), mail, sound on/off, and calculator. The mouse buttons are old skool compared to a modern red eye but it also an LED mouse (not the old skool ball mouse).

[–]reversethevex 2 points3 points ago

It really cool.

Do you have to put a lot of care into it? I feel like you would need to polish it and take extra care of the keyboard.

Does the wood expand any making it hard to type/click?

[–]hieronymous-cowherd 0 points1 point ago

I've been using the combo for two months with no sign of any wear and tear. I haven't spilled a cup of coffee on them yet, so who knows?

The seam around the mouse buttons is smaller than around the keyboard keys, so I expect those will go first.

Bamboo patio furniture can last as long as wicker, so I think I'll be bored with the keyboard long before I wear it out.

[–]filmdakid 6 points7 points ago

Nice, with my luck I'd be the first person to get a splinter using it.

[–]phis6 4 points5 points ago

Doesn't looks like it's mechanical but it does look very nice.

[–]ILikeBumblebees -1 points0 points ago

How can you tell by looking at the exterior?

[–]dimdog 4 points5 points ago

These are pretty shit.

source: I have one of these at work

[–]BitWise -4 points-3 points ago

You mean good shit right? LOL

[–]dimdog 1 point2 points ago

Nope. Shit as in not good.

[–]nmaunder 11 points12 points ago

elaborate

[–]screenz 2 points3 points ago

So what do I say when people in dota2 ask if I have a wooden computer?

[–]DJUrsus 3 points4 points ago

"No, just my keyboard." What else would you say?

[–]Nsongster -1 points0 points ago

Stop playing MOBA games.

[–]wodsoa 2 points3 points ago

My cheeto-caked fingers are ready.

[–]afss07 2 points3 points ago

Yep. I need one of those. Would really compliment my bamboo floors.

[–]ILikeBumblebees 4 points5 points ago

"Good morning, floor! You're looking lovely today!", said the keyboard.

[–]afss07 3 points4 points ago

At least for once it wouldn't be a hungover me saying it!

[–]Whistledrip 2 points3 points ago

Looks nice, but if I'm going to pay that much for a keyboard, it's not going to be a membrane. (Just assuming it is given the price)

[–]Karsone 1 point2 points ago

Fifty dollars is a pretty nice price for any keyboard an mouse. Although based on the reviews of this product, I would say it's more of a novelty piece...

[–]Whistledrip 0 points1 point ago

Oh, definitely clicked the wrong link, it's $50 not $90...

[–]Sellasella123 1 point2 points ago

Would hate to spill my milk on that sucker

[–]BitWise 5 points6 points ago

You should hate to spill your milk on any keyboard.

[–]s_i_leigh 4 points5 points ago

[–]limenuke 0 points1 point ago

Then it spills through the keyboard onto your shorts. You fool!

[–]ILikeBumblebees 1 point2 points ago

That looks amazing. It would be a terrible shame if there was a membrane board underneath, though. I hope that's got some high-quality mechanical keyswitches in it.

[–]uwsdwfismyname 1 point2 points ago

Shut up and take my money!

[–]psistarpsi 0 points1 point ago

Please let there be a mechanical key option!

[–]midir 0 points1 point ago

Oh my that's sexy.

[–]goodBEan 0 points1 point ago

That mouse has got to be heavy.

[–][deleted] ago

[–]a10t2 0 points1 point ago

I guess it depends on the construction. Bamboo is less dense than most plastics, but plastic keyboards and mice are also mostly air.

[–]MuseofRose 0 points1 point ago

Woah. That's pretty sick till you get termites...

[–]ILikeBumblebees 0 points1 point ago

I'd expect it to get sick after the termites arrive.

[–]straaz 0 points1 point ago

I own a wireless model very similar to this. I can't speak for the exact one mentioned in OP's post, but mine had a pretty terribad battery life, and splinters like a mofo. I've since gone back to the old IBM.

[–]AngryData 0 points1 point ago

You should of sealed it to prevent uneven drying and hence splinters.

[–]vinciblechunk 0 points1 point ago

Reminds me of the wooden C64.

[–]moonman 0 points1 point ago

Goes great with the coconut modem.

[–]basstotrout 0 points1 point ago

totally have that. I am so awesome.

[–]This_Fat_Hipster 0 points1 point ago

Am I the only one who thinks this is hideous and impractical ?

[–]iongantas 0 points1 point ago

I bet that makes a nice sound when typing.

[–]mateo3 0 points1 point ago

Soo hipster I want to puke.

[–]platypuspracticus 0 points1 point ago

The important question: is it a mechanical keyboard?

[–]wrathofg0d 0 points1 point ago

if it's just another membrane keyboard then who gives a fuck

[–]bullium -1 points0 points ago

Nicely done!

[–]Lemonlust -1 points0 points ago

But, will it blend?

[–]jonas747 -1 points0 points ago

That's not a leopard silly you.
