It's easy to laugh about, but there is actually a dark truth behind this post that really hits home with me. When I was 14 and still a fundamentalist Christian, I used to keep a journal with prayers in it. I was going through some serious guilt about questioning my faith and my sexuality, and most of my "prayers" repeated these sentiments almost verbatim: "Please, take me back, I'm not good enough for you, but please forgive me, I know that you can change my life and I will surrender myself to you completely. I'm so worthless, please don't stop loving me..." etc.

Four years later, I started dating a guy I met through my stoner artist friends. I didn't particularly like him, but he was charismatic and very forward and I was sexually repressed. I think what attracted me most were his "morals" regarding monogamy, aka controlling jealous streak. He somehow convinced me that I was a totally disgusting, ignorant being and pretty soon I was repeating the same shit that I had written in my prayer journal to this guy. "Please, take me back, I'm not good enough for you, but please forgive me, I know that you can change my life and I will surrender myself to you completely. I'm so worthless, please don't stop loving me..."

Of course, the only reason he was able to fuck me over like this was because I already believed in my heart of hearts that I was a worthless sinner who needed "saving," not an intelligent young woman with big questions and a strong drive to seek the truth.

Edit: Even bigger mindfuck- I even showed him my journal and told him that it was troubling me that our relationship was repeating this pattern, and he attributed it to me being crazy and having issues. Typical.

Painful story but fantastic post. I admire your ability to see so clearly what happened and you sound like you are recovering. If I could I would give you a high five! (or a million). :) I toast to you today!

We all hate it, especially over at r/pokemon where EVERYONE has found "this little gem at a garage sale"

This is a repost from like last week isn't it?

[–]Prosopagnosiape 5 points6 points ago

Probably gets posted every week at the least. Eh, if each week one new person sees it and is made to think a little, no harm done.

Yeah that's true

It's been posted before pretty recently. That's probably why.

Use of the word gem when it doesn't apply to an actual gemstone is cause for immediate downvotes, followed swiftly by a disparaging remark regarding the character of the OP.

Incorrect usage of "whomever" in a noun clause. http://grammar.quickanddirtytips.com/whomever-whoever.aspx

Also, I've seen this before very recently on Reddit.

those are both absolutely horrible reasons. I appreciate the honesty tho.
