    Several research papers have looked at risk factors and whether there are certain conditions that make an individual more susceptible to dengue fever, or the more serious forms of DHF and DSS. It does appear that Caucasians are more susceptible to DHF and DSS than Africans. Chinese men were also more susceptible than Malay men in a study carried out in Malaysia.

    Blood group may affect susceptibility although the research here is very limited. In one study of Thai children, those with blood group AB were more likely to develop DHF in a second infection and DSS than those with blood groups A, O or B.

        I may be a bit late to this, but as someone who got dengue fever, FUCK THAT SHIT. Fucking felt like like my legs were broken and i was bleeding from my teeth and nose and was stuck in a bed for a week. Right as I got back from the Bahamas (but still in the incubation period), the CDC issued a warning of Dengue fever there. Too late. ಠ_ಠ

                        I open my fridge and the stink both overwhelms and invigorates me as the odor from Christy's fetid flesh washes over me in a wave. I smooth out the hair on her head, on the top shelf next to the Asian pears and Greek yogurt. The blood from her mouth has dried in a pool, covering the entire transparent shelf, and giving everything else in the refrigerator a nice red hue. Her feet and hands lie in the vegetable crisper, and I remove them before placing them on my cutting board. After selecting the new Swedish filet knife I got in last week, I sit both of her soles down the middle, and begin to flay her feet. Then I use a meat cleaver to remove her toes, and put them in a mesquite barbecue marinade for the following evening. I think I will pull off the cooked flesh and serve it in meat pies to Angela.

                            I have big container out back filled with water and some hay. Mosquito bitches love the stagnant water. I wait until I see the larvae, then harvest them for my fish inside. They get free food and I break the mosquito reproductive cycle.

                            We do something similar. We have a nice shady area with a bunch of rain buckets. We wait until they are full of little eggies, then put screens over them all. The skeeters hatch, grow up, then drown eventually when they can't get out of the bucket. Once they're dead we start again. No joke though, we went to the pet store today looking for some fish to feed the larvae to. What kind do you have?

                            Interesting story, and true: My father worked for Volusia County (Florida) Mosquito Control back in the 50's and 60's. He got little side jobs for my brothers. Their job was to go to various spots in the county and take mosquito population counts. They had to go to various sites, get out of their cars, unroll their sleeves and stand still for :60 seconds. Then they had to count the mosquitoes on their arms, log the numbers, then go to the next site.

                            They had to perform this every 2 or 3 days and they were paid some pittance, but they got to drive dads car (gas was about .20 per gallon) and they got some money. So it was all good.

                                  I imagine some of you live in places without mosquitoes. For the record: mosquito bites on your fingers and toes are the most annoying. They'll drive you up the freaking wall. For whatever reason, they itch like a motherfucker, while bites in other places just itch a bit.
