No. That's the 'about to kill that finger/toe/shiny thing' look.

[–]Eviscerati 226 points227 points ago

Yeah, that's not guilt in kitty's eyes, it's murder.

[–][deleted] 66 points67 points ago

It's a psychology trick to disarm their opponent before they attack. Used by assassins, spec-ops, murderers and also Puss in Boots.

[–]dracthrus 18 points19 points ago

My cat has no guilty eyes, it is more of a "fuck you for you shoe being in the way of where I wanted to poop" type look. She feels we all (meaning those below her, humans, dogs, plants, cats that aren't her, everything else) are wrong to even assume she would do something for us.

My cat has an attitude issue.

Friend shows up she is laying in the chair where he normally sits, so is greeted by being glared at as it is his problem not hers (then she gets moved against her will). same friend was away on a vacation for 2 weeks. first time he came over since then she laid down next to him, then started smacking him with her paws until he moved and gave her more space.

[–]fireinthesky7 21 points22 points ago

No offense, but your cat sounds like kind of a bitch.

[–]LlamaLlama_Duck 6 points7 points ago

I love this. Totally right!

[–]ilostmyoldaccount 1 point2 points ago

It's scared actually. But carry on.

[–]explodingbarrels 2 points3 points ago

the mischievous ecstasy of anticipation. you know cats feel this, especially when they are aiming at an unsuspecting toe or finger

[–]lunchbox_assassin 1 point2 points ago

Cats are not capable of feeling guilt.

[–]MissusEggs 1 point2 points ago

Nice try, dogs.

[–]hammerheart 72 points73 points ago

As I cat owner I know this look too. This is definitely not a "did I do something wrong" demeanor. I don't even think cats are capable of thinking they did something wrong.

[–]smartzie 43 points44 points ago

LOL. Usually them doing something wrong is followed with a "What the fuck is your problem?" look....

[–]Lystrodom 4 points5 points ago

Like when I have to take my socks from one of my kittens. Damn kitten keeps stealing socks...

[–]smartzie 11 points12 points ago

Your kitten is just "killing" those horrible, evil socks for you! You should be thankful! :D

[–]Lystrodom 6 points7 points ago

Taking them under the coach, and keeping the other kitten away by growling, THEN killing them. (Seriously, I always know when he has a sock, because he doesn't make the "get the fuck away from me if you want to live" noise in any other situation.)

[–]smartzie 7 points8 points ago

Ah, yes, the "Destroyer of Worlds" growl from little fluffykins. Always my favorite. :)

[–]hangtenn 1 point2 points ago

and that's exactly what i'm hearing while looking at the OP's pic

[–]sid9102 4 points5 points ago

My cat totally does know. She's not allowed in my flatmate's room, and everytime I catch her in there she sprints out and looks all apologetic.

[–]bertsally 10 points11 points ago

I think they're just not capable of caring that they did something wrong.

[–]ITSigno 17 points18 points ago

Tell that to my cat. When he wants your attention, he'll do whatever it takes to get it. He'll look right at you, and then dump dirt from a plant pot right onto the carpet. He'll maintain eye contact throughout. He knows what he's doing. And why.

[–]lacienega 6 points7 points ago

Haha. This is so true. It's like when they want you to wake up. My cat knows I hate the sound of her chewing/pawing at plastic so she will look right at me in bed and start gnawing on any nearby plastic until I get out of bed. It's the only time she ever does this. If I lock the bedroom door I can even hear the crinkling going on in another room, and as faint as it is she knows I can't sleep like that.

Another one just gets right to the point and comes to bed and starts hitting my face so I wake up, then if I move she knows I'm awake and starts digging at the covers till my hands come out.

[–]somefool 1 point2 points ago

This is why put plastic in sealed containers. I was also woken by the faint noise of claws against a 450$ lcd screen for a while, but thankfully she lost that habit

[–]mortaine 6 points7 points ago

My bastard of a cat does that, too. Stares at you while he pushes your glass off the table (which he's not even supposed to be ON!)

[–]ITSigno 2 points3 points ago

Thankfully my cat stopped pushing glasses off tables. He did that when he was a kitten, though.

We tried keeping him off the kitchen table and counter by using a spray bottle when we caught him. We learned two things. It is only effective when he is caught, and even then all he does is jump down/run away until we leave. The other thing we learned was that it stops working entirely after a while because he learned that the water doesn't actually hurt him. After a while he would just sit there and take the spraying. He'd be drenched but did a fine job of ignoring it.

I had heard about adding a little lemon juice to the water (cats hate the smell), but I figured it would be right back to the first problem -- irrelevant when he isn't caught in the act.

[–]Gertiel 1 point2 points ago

My cat does this, only with drinks. Because fuck you, you should be paying attention to me. Also, get me my gooshey food, beyotch.

[–]thunnus 67 points68 points ago

Shit is about to get real.

[–]wallstr33t 1 point2 points ago

full on stalker mode activated!

[–]OhNoGuy 1 point2 points ago

Oh no.

[–]t3yrn 38 points39 points ago

Yup, laying low, ears low, whiskers fluffed, eyes dilated. I'll bet the tail was twitching moments before and after this pic was snapped.

I wouldn't want to be the owner of that hand!

[–]the4thbandit 7 points8 points ago

Exactly, dilated pupils + lowered ears is never a good thing. I have the scars to prove it lol.

[–]shsdavid 11 points12 points ago

Anyone who owns a cat knows this.

[–]NOT_POOPING 2 points3 points ago

I still haven't learned.

[–]ilostmyoldaccount 1 point2 points ago

No, it's shit scared in fact.

[–]TheDranx 3 points4 points ago

My thoughts exactly.

[–]smartzie 9 points10 points ago

As a crazy cat lady, I confirm it is indeed the "kill mode" look.

[–]Kyoti 1 point2 points ago

I love my kitty's "predator eyes", they're Puss-in-Boots-tastic! :-)

[–]weedroid 1 point2 points ago

predator mode: ENGAGED

[–]cultured_banana_slug 1 point2 points ago

Cat: "I will protect you from the evil infestation of bed mice!" (pounce)

Human: "AAAAH sheets! Sheets!"

[–]girlinboots 217 points218 points ago

Not pictured: Butt wiggle of doom.

[–]atilly 3 points4 points ago

Yes ! My cat ALWAYS wiggles his fat butt when he goes into attack mode !

[–]0ldblu3 1 point2 points ago

It's much like a baseball player wiggling the bat in anticipation of the pitch. The butt wiggle ensures that the pounce can come at any time and doesn't start from a static position and can go in any direction.

[–]TheBatmanToMyBruce 93 points94 points ago

I suspect the photographer had their face removed shortly after this was taken.

[–]frenchlitgeek 45 points46 points ago

[–]Chickenstew 5 points6 points ago

I dub this one Otter Cat. It oddly reminds me of an Otter

[–]zorglubb 8 points9 points ago

That is so cute :) Reminded me of my cat
That slightly sad look that may actually mean an imminent attack :)

[–]jeffwilliams 6 points7 points ago

Looks like he is planning to pounce.

[–]LittleMissL 6 points7 points ago

He's so cuddly I could die.

[–]mortaine 3 points4 points ago

And if he had his way...

[–]sbench18 5 points6 points ago

This is definitely becoming my new go-to when my girlfriend is mad at me

[–]Davepen 4 points5 points ago

Dude, if you are able to put your ears down like that, that shit needs to go on reddit.

[–]tymothi 32 points33 points ago

Must resist urge to- OMG I WANT TO PET HIM SO MUCH!

[–]Realsan 56 points57 points ago

Yeah.. this cat isn't sad. It's in "pounce" position. It's about to tear the fuck out of something. But go ahead, pet him!

[–]tymothi 15 points16 points ago

My cat does this to me all the time. She lures me in with those big eyes and when my hand gets close enough she pounces on it.

[–]Eclipsado[S] 9 points10 points ago

Does anyone knows to explain why cats pounce before attacking? It looks like he's calibrating his own body before the jump.

[–]Markles 23 points24 points ago

Surprise attack.

Ex: No cat... -pounce-... Instant cat

[–]ANAL_PLUNDERING 7 points8 points ago

It's faster and surprises the enemy.

[–]Mutual 9 points10 points ago

It can also inflict pretty serious trauma on whatever they pounce on. That way if their prey gets away after the initial pounce, there's still a good chance they'll catch it.

[–]ANAL_PLUNDERING 17 points18 points ago

You are now subscribed to Cat Facts!

Me-Wow!

[–]Eclipsado[S] 4 points5 points ago

Yeah but why do they 'shake' their body? What does it help?

[–]potterarchy 11 points12 points ago

I believe the buttwiggle has been hypothesized to help the back feet gain extra traction.

[–]AStabToTheEye 8 points9 points ago

It always reminds me of runners at the starting block. They line up all their running parts before taking off.

[–]lacienega 3 points4 points ago

What about the tail swishing though, doesn't that give them away?

[–]icaaryal 6 points7 points ago

It's an involuntary response to their excitement.

[–]Dances_with_Sheep 10 points11 points ago

Stand up and try thinking about making a jump and notice how you have an urge to bob up and down slightly. Notice how you become sensistive to the way the ground under your feel is reacting to pressure as your reflexes calibrate how much force to use on each foot. Cats are doing the same thing, just in a more exaggerated way.

[–]mdhol 3 points4 points ago

Anyone else amused that "Anal_Plundering" is faster and surprises the enemy?

[–]Abedeus 1 point2 points ago

Uhh... because it allows them to jump farther and faster? Physics? Also, why you crouch slightly before jumping.

[–]spirit_spine 4 points5 points ago

Saving this picture for when my girlfriend gets mad at me.

[–]dancingshoe 16 points17 points ago

Yea. title=wrong. This cat is in attack mode.

[–]CheddersB 2 points3 points ago

What kind of cat is this?

[–]Gaseous_Lemon 10 points11 points ago

The way it's ears are it's probably one of these three:Scottish fold, american shorthair, domestic housecat It could be none of those as I've never actually had a cat,but I watch a lot of cats 101:D

[–]CheddersB 5 points6 points ago

ahhn cats and dogs 101, the r/aww of the tv

[–]szor 2 points3 points ago

otter cat!

[–]spaaaaaghetaboutit 4 points5 points ago

Looks like a damn sea otter

[–]EdgHG 11 points12 points ago

awww...it looks really scared.

[–]whattodoinboston 4 points5 points ago

No this is the sneaky look, he's checking out something he wants to catch, a scared cat does not look sad, it looks angry and shows it's teeth.

[–]smackfairy 3 points4 points ago

People forget cats do not have human expressions because... they are cats. This is a classic attack/defend play mode. Ears down(fighting stance either aggressor or defender), eyes dilated.

[–]whattodoinboston 1 point2 points ago

I had to explain this once to my housemate, she saw a dog and said he looks so sad she wanted to take him from his owner and lots of bs, i told her you can see if a dog is submissive on it's body language, but not if he's sad. Because dogs do NOT have human facial expressions.

[–]smackfairy 2 points3 points ago

Argh that's such a common mistake too! Which leads to behavioral problems because then you get spoiled dogs. Dogs are dogs. They can be our best friends but one of the best things you can do is treat them like they are dogs, not humans. They need directions from their pack leaders :)

[–]daykitty 1 point2 points ago

Yeah he does. Why do like only two commenters recognize this?

[–]bubble_bee_tuna 2 points3 points ago

Ah my heart! It's.. It's melting!

[–]k80k80k80 2 points3 points ago

What's wrong with your otter?

[–]noiseradical 2 points3 points ago

Being a redditor, I've seen many pictures of cats in my day, but this one... this cuteness takes the cake. An upvote for you, sir.

[–]mercurialsaliva 2 points3 points ago

He looks scared shitless.

[–]TieDyeLibrarian 2 points3 points ago

Oh. My. God. That is really fucking cute, little kitty.

[–]RevWaldo 2 points3 points ago

You're pretending to be a sea otter and YOU ARE NOT A SEA OTTER!

[–]s00p3r 2 points3 points ago

Don't "awww" him. He knows what he fucking did.

[–]real-dreamer 2 points3 points ago

That cat can't ever do anything wrong it's always right and perfect and sweet.

/cuddle cat.

[–]sidneyluke98 2 points3 points ago

I agree with previous comments stating that the face is more of a "moment before pounce" one. Most likely the last thing an insect or small animal sees.

[–]Trac02 2 points3 points ago

That face... It reminds me of puss in boots from shrek

[–]chinatbag 2 points3 points ago

I want to own this kitty cat!

[–]scarwit 2 points3 points ago

In these sorts of situations I sit still until the "bum wiggling" is finished and I know it's safe.

[–]kimmobell 6 points7 points ago

Aww this reminds me of the face Puss and Boots makes

[–]gear0war 2 points3 points ago

Puss and Boots

Puss IN Boots....FTFY

[–]jonasbjarki 4 points5 points ago

From my experience, this look means that kitty is about to pounce.

[–]Moe_Lester_the_3rd 7 points8 points ago

[–]hinduone 3 points4 points ago

kill mode: engage

[–]Magicmudkip 1 point2 points ago

No, no... you're doing it perfectly.

[–]genYretardbrat 1 point2 points ago

My cat gets low to the ground like this one when there is a thunderstorm or a vacuum cleaner around.

[–]Eclipsado[S] 3 points4 points ago

During thunderstorms my cat chills and looks up like saying "Wut's tis?", never tried a vacuum tho

[–]drunkirish 8 points9 points ago

Your house must be delightfully tidy.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

[–]theblacklaser 1 point2 points ago

[–]loafjunky 1 point2 points ago

[–]Vranak 1 point2 points ago

Remind anyone of this guy?

[–]urmyfavoritecustomer 1 point2 points ago

I like working from home because I don't have to edit the noises that come out of me involuntarily when I see stuff like this.

[–]Shadowhawk22JFK 1 point2 points ago

It sort of looks like a baby seal in the thumbnail

[–]mbonar1001 1 point2 points ago

Cats are always about to do something wrong or have just done something wrong. Figuring out which is the really what Schrodinger was talking about.

[–]revanche221 1 point2 points ago

Aww that's cute :)

[–]trinlayk 1 point2 points ago

looks like "OMG! it's that red dot again! must KILL the DOOOTTT!" to me. at least that's the situation when I see the Puss In Boots face at my house.

[–]elgiorgie 1 point2 points ago

How is there terrorism in this world? Have they seen this photo?

[–]MrJMaxted0291 1 point2 points ago

Lowered ears are actually common in cats that are currently distressed and agitated. Just what did you do to this cat to get this photo?

[–]Killa_Chinchilla 1 point2 points ago

Yes you did do something wrong! You're being too damn cute!

[–]JiaMekare 1 point2 points ago

Transformation into ferret: 50% complete.

[–]justaguy3492 1 point2 points ago

As someone who owns a cat that isn't an aww look, that's a "hey ima bite and scratch the shit out of your toes because you moved your foot once under the blanket" type of look.

[–]muffinmaster 1 point2 points ago

It looks so cute I want to squish it.

[–]FunTimesInDreamland 1 point2 points ago

"Aww, who's a pretty kitty? Yes, you're a pretty kitty. Come here and let me give you snug-- AH IT'S ON MY FACE! CLAWS, OH THE CLAWS! ITS GOT ITS CLAWS IN MY FACE!!!"

[–]DJJoeBlock 1 point2 points ago

The title post should've been: "Did I do something w/r/awwng?"

[–]Drago6817 1 point2 points ago

Op must have never had a cat,.. That is the I'm about to fuck some shit up look.

[–]TheTruthAboutYourPet 6 points7 points ago

Actually, your cat doesn't really quite understand the difference between right and wrong. A cat has instincts and will follow those instincts without caring if its right or wrong.

[–]houstonUA6 2 points3 points ago

Awesome name. Can you give me an example though? I'm really curious as I don't own any pets, specifically cats.

[–]Magres 3 points4 points ago

They don't have the analytical capabilities to process the ideas of Right and Wrong. Right and Wrong themselves can be argued to be arbitrary social constructs with no deeper "Truth" behind them.

Look at Projectivism, we assign qualities of Right, Wrong, Good, and Evil to acts like murder and charity. Cats do no such thing.

[–]iamiamwhoami 2 points3 points ago

Dogs seem to be able to pickup on human disapproval and feel bad about it. I know it's just because their "boss" is mad, but I wonder how much depth there actually is in that feeling.

[–]Kiacha 7 points8 points ago

Ye, cats do that too, they just don't give a fuck.

[–]IMMENSELY_BRAVE 2 points3 points ago

If your cat does something and you scold it then it'll usually learn that what it's doing is wrong and (potentially) not do them anymore.

That way, a cat can very well differentiate between right and wrong.

[–]dezeiram 1 point2 points ago

awww, so evil :3

[–]latinagringa2121 1 point2 points ago

This sweet baby could never do anything wrong....

[–]TheDranx 4 points5 points ago

-looks at arm littered with scars- Yeah, nothing bad could come from this sweet baby.

[–]ILikeYourCat 1 point2 points ago

[–]jammyjamz 2 points3 points ago

D'AWWWWWWWWWWWW

[–]janosaudron 1 point2 points ago

That is the EXACT same face my cat does whe she is about to do something really crazy like jump on the table and knock everything that is on it or when she is about to jump on your face to try to catch your moving hair. If you have a cat then you know that you should be scared of that look.

[–]PreDinnerSnack 0 points1 point ago

Good kitty

[–]wabbajackoff 0 points1 point ago

Reminds me a lot of the bear mom from Brave when her eyes go black.

[–]moonlightpixie 0 points1 point ago

I just want to cuddle this kitty, forever!!

[–]letmewritethatdown 0 points1 point ago

"Is that what I think it is...?"

[–]GingerTiff33 -1 points0 points ago

[–]jamiesam26 0 points1 point ago

YES! It is responsible for all of the pet hair and dander that you find on your blanket.

[–]Varconis 0 points1 point ago

No... But you're about to!

[–]Lamechv2 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, your too cute. So cute that its kitties like you who make me waste time on Reddit. I hope your happy that I'm spending time fawning over you instead of doing my work.

[–]Kipps34 0 points1 point ago

[–]BuffaloBillsFan 0 points1 point ago

First thing on /r/aww that produced the desired audible reaction. Bravo.

[–]Death_in_fire 0 points1 point ago

my first thought actually was "NO, NO, ABSOLUTELY NOT!"

[–]Douchey_EX 0 points1 point ago

This was the look my cat gave me when I started filling up the burlap sack with kittens.

[–]austinanimal 0 points1 point ago

Awesome! I've played with my cats and got them so riled up before they look like this.

They are ready to murder any toy/laser that comes out.

[–]bringthereign3 0 points1 point ago

How the hell are there 3,038 downvotes?!

[–]DestroyYourJokes 2 points3 points ago

3,038 people downvoted this photo.

[–]patterrrrn 0 points1 point ago

That's not what it sez.

[–]Pharose 0 points1 point ago

False. Cat's do not have any sense of empathy, he is just contemplating his failure as a huntsman.

[–]Kiacha 0 points1 point ago

Well did he? Total cliffhanger verging on anticlimax.

[–]louiscyr 0 points1 point ago

The life of a cat is not numbered by nine. Usually it is short, violent and tragic. He suffers, and makes others suffer if he can. He is primitive, bestially selfish. He is, in short, a creature of awful and terrible potentialities, a crystalization of primordial self-love, a materialization of the blackness and squalor of the abyss. He is a green-eyed, steel-thewed, fur-clad block of darkness hewed from the Pits which know not light, nor sympathy, nor dreams, nor hope, nor beauty, nor anything except hunger and the satiating of hunger. But he has dwelt with man since the beginning, and when the last man lies down and dies, a cat will watch his throes, and likelier than not, will gorge its abysmal hunger on his cooling flesh.

Yup. You are a cat. Therefore, by my reddit rules, you get downvoted.

[–]WildeCat96 0 points1 point ago

Not to burst your bubble, but this is a look of sheer terror. Looks like kitty got the piss scared out of it by a loud noise or something. My old cat got this exact look during thunderstorms.
