I spoke with Anthony Daniels (C-3PO) on a couple occasions.

He said that he didn't watch the original trilogy for the longest time. It was because, during production, the entire cast thought the original was going to be the worst flop in history. He was finally convinced to watch the originals. His comment was, "They're not bad."

We also showed him some bits of Red Letter Media's review of the new trilogy. He had a good laugh watching it, saying everything they said was right on the money; right down to the bit where Obi-Wan looked so dead and emotionless at Grievous' lightsaber show. It was because he was looking at a giant blue nothing and he had absolutely no idea what he was looking at.

Anyhow, your comment about the actors not seeing the movies is actually a bit more accurate than you'd think.

No, they really really weren't good. The plots have more holes than a screen door and the acting was stilted and terrible (even the good actors like SLJ and Neeson) because Lucas' script writing and direction was laughable. The movies were nominally successful only because they were linked to the behemoth that is Star Wars, not because they were worth anything individually.

I think it was the difference of the scene and script. Hayden Christiansen just had to complain and through things around which made him seem like a pussy. But when Mark had a similar scene it was when Vader revealed he was his father, and that really was a huge distraction from his acting.
