I spent an unhealthy amount of time looking at that site

[–]A_British_Gentleman 20 points21 points ago

I found it years ago, I've always wanted to make something from it. But now OP has reminded me of it at a time that I have disposable income. Hmm....

[–]pimpthatsnack 30 points31 points ago

If you make anything good, submit it and we'll put it up :)

[–]A_British_Gentleman 5 points6 points ago

Challenge accepted!

[–]velocitygirl07 8 points9 points ago

I attempted the giant Jaffa Cake a couple of years ago- managed to scrounge a couple of pics: http://imgur.com/a/hUQm0

Didn't quite turn out how we were expecting...tasted amazing though!

[–]I3addog 5 points6 points ago

You'd need one big ass glass of milk to wash that down.

[–]Dreddy 1 point2 points ago

I would use a hot Milo/chocolate

[–]A_British_Gentleman 3 points4 points ago

Yeah I know someone who made one, just tasted like chocolate and melted sugar though.

[–]enrique_ingustas 7 points8 points ago

......then what is a Cadbury Cream Egg then?

[–]Dreddy 1 point2 points ago

Always tasted like a shitload of sugar combined with a shitload of condensed milk to me

[–]A_British_Gentleman 0 points1 point ago

Pretty much the same thing, but there's flavourings and far less of the stuff.

[–]simonjp 0 points1 point ago

They forgot the vanilla, perhaps?

[–]goneforaburton 1 point2 points ago

I'm pleased that the oft-overlooked standard britsh measurement of size, the kettle, is put to good use on page three.

[–]Dreddy 1 point2 points ago

About 5 cups of tea worth of crushed chocolate, 3 cups of tea worth of condensed milk, a kettle's worth of sugar

[–]h3rpad3rp 0 points1 point ago

AKA the fast track to diabetes.

[–]HARRRR 5 points6 points ago

It used to be PimpMySnack, but they had to change it for lawsuit reasons. Awesome site...the creme egg is my favourite.

[–]real_foz 12 points13 points ago

Me and a friend tried to make the kinder egg which you mould around a balloon. We didn't listen to the warnings and just started to put white chocolate onto a balloon before it had cooled enough. The resulting explosion of white goo turned my kitchen into a scene from an porn film and we ended up finding white chocolate splatter in the most surreal of places.

Needless to say, we did not do a second attempt.

Link to original we used as a guide: Kinder Egg

[–]A_British_Gentleman 2 points3 points ago

A friend of mine attempted the Creme Egg. It was horrific.

[–]soupbrah 1 point2 points ago

It's a myth that eating too much sugar gives you sugar diabetes. Well, I hope..

[–]bozofire123 17 points18 points ago

A lot of sugar does not give you type 1 diabetes but contributes to type 2

[–]fivepercentsure 2 points3 points ago

Being geneticly predisposed to both Diabetes AND Hypoglycemia does not help me at all. Fortunatly I show no signs of either. (However a treat like this would be good for Hypoglycemia I believe)

[–]poNji 1 point2 points ago

You make me want to watch Scrubs with your fancy words.

[–]fivepercentsure 0 points1 point ago

a "predisposition" means you are born at risk. a "genetic" one means it runs in your family putting you at risk. and Hypoglycemia is when a persons blood sugar falls way too low. "diabetes" is the disease in which your body can not manage it's insulin levels in order to drop your blood sugar.

hope that covers all the words.

[–]CaptSmallShlong 0 points1 point ago

you need a lot more than that for diabetes

[–]ConstipatedNinja 0 points1 point ago

Great diabetes.

[–]Ifunctiononkitkats 0 points1 point ago

Wait? Is it bad to eat a lot of kit kat?

[–]daithiocoinnigh 2 points3 points ago

I think we need to write letters to have this type of treat regulated. It has great potential to impact negatively on kids and shit.

[–]gulmargha 1 point2 points ago

[–]serioush 13 points14 points ago

I am now required to tell the MH joke:

The Kit-Kat candy bar has the name "Kit-Kat" imprinted into the chocolate. That robs you of chocolate! That's a clever chocolate-saving technique. I'll go down to the factory... "you owe me some letters!"

[–]lemmereddit 4 points5 points ago

Upvote for MH. "I'm sick of following my dreams. I'll find it where they are going and catch up with them later."

[–]Sirusavath 0 points1 point ago

I have to say amazed I had to go down this far to find this.

[–]Ifunctiononkitkats 0 points1 point ago

those bastards!

[–]Proditus 26 points27 points ago

In the US, Kit Kats are a Hershey product (which I thought was the same for the rest of the world until just now, TIL). If you want to buy authentic chololate in bulk, the easiest option for that route would be to get this.

The wafers would probably be the hardest part to get right. Those cream-filled wafers have a distinctive (and cheap) taste to them. Kit Kats are supposed to taste like Hershey (or Nestle) chocolate throughout, but the wafer gives it texture. Looking at the picture, the center of the giant Kit Kat is all wafer, and it would just taste like wafer. An alternating layered approach would probably be better.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]EdynViper 10 points11 points ago

I was surprised how bland Hershey's was as well especially given what a well known brand it is. Compared it other brands like Cadbury and Nestle, it's just lacking. But their cookies and creams bars are still somewhat delicious.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]Logical_Always 0 points1 point ago

This may be more of an importing problem than the chocolate itself. When I was in Russia, I tried some delicious European food that I had never had before. In America, I bought the exact same food from a european grocery store and it was shit; because they had to put in extra preservatives and it was dried and crumbly by the time it reached here anyway.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

Sounds like you need to buy the stuff online, sellers online usually buy it from supermarkets when you order it, that way it is always fresh. I run an exporting website and I also sell on Amazon.com (globally) for fresh British, Indian and Asian products.

[–]rasterbee 5 points6 points ago

It's pretty rare to see someone munching on just a chocolate bar. People buy chocolate/nuts, chocolate/nougat, chocolate/caramel candy bars far more often. They'll buy Hershey's bars to make Smores, that's really the only time I see people eating straight Hershey's bars.

My body requires a full bar of dark chocolate on a monthly basis and the best stuff I can easily find is Ghirardelli's Midnight Reverie, Twilight Delight and Evening Dream.

[–]alcoholland 1 point2 points ago

As someone who works/lives near 7 different chocolatiers I'm sorry.

[–]rasterbee 0 points1 point ago

I know...it's rather sad. Ghirardelli works when I need it, but it's my only option.

There's no specialty chocolate store within 200 miles of where I live. Or even a place that sells better chocolate than the grocery store.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]rasterbee 1 point2 points ago

Um funny I guess?

Even though I am on reddit right now, I'm rather Ludditish. I can count on one hand the number of times I've purchased something like you are suggesting. I don't text, I've used the same phone since 2003, try as often as possible to pay for things with cash, don't have to use a calculator to do less than complicated arithmetic. I like it this way. I don't want my car texting me, but I understand how many people like this new reality.

[–]alcoholland 0 points1 point ago

Yeah it's one of the things that make NYC bareable.

[–]Brule_Tools 2 points3 points ago

I had a friend bring me back a big bar of Cadbury chocolate from London, and I can definitely say, after growing up on Hershey's, I was not a fan of chocolate.

That brick of Cadbury restored my faith in chocolate!

[–]marr 0 points1 point ago

That's.. I.. Okay, you're an Oompa Loompa, right? Only ever eaten green caterpillars, but recently you acquired a cheap New York hot dog and you can't imagine anything better.

Find a real chocolatier. If in any way feasible, do this by going to Europe. You need a steak.

[–]Brule_Tools 0 points1 point ago

You don't get it dude. I fucking HATED chocolate. Anything even marginally better than Hershey's bullshit was good for me.

Also, I've had some truly exceptional chocolate since, this was about 6 years ago.

I will say, I would never have even bothered if that 50p bar of Cadbury hadn't restored my faith in sweet brown stuff.

[–]JimmyBisMe 1 point2 points ago

I don't understand. I think Hersey's is crap but I think that Cadbury's is even worse. It doesn't taste like chocolate, it's bland and has a pastey consistency.

[–]simonjp 0 points1 point ago

Hershey's has a horrible tang to it.

I think it all depends on what you were brought up on.

[–]PostalPenguin 1 point2 points ago

I think Proditus is just suggesting a way to most accurately recreate a Kit-Kat in taste not what is the best chocolate.

[–]classy_stegasaurus 0 points1 point ago

I like Hershey's, but Cadbury is way better

[–]bacon_butter 0 points1 point ago

Hershey's is cheap chocolate. Basically when cocoa beans are harvested the companies willing to pay more get first pick at the harvest. Companies like Hershey's will usually take the last pick. The beans are uniformly roasted so because differences in size of some of the beans (to fix this would require more manpower=expensive) the larger beans can be under-roasted and the smaller beans would be burnt. To top it off the processing of their chocolate isn't very extensive which results in a bit of a chalky texture.

Can't really provide a source on this, I learned it in training when I worked for a different chocolate company.

[–]cheechong 17 points18 points ago

Nestle kikkats kick hersheys kitKats ass!

[–]wakeupwill 8 points9 points ago

Hershey's isn't chocolate.

Source: Grew up in Europe.

[–]Proditus 0 points1 point ago

Hershey's is pretty damn delicious. I've had cheap chocolate before, that kind that just crumbles and leaves a bitter aftertaste in your mouth even if it's not dark. And while Swiss chocolate has a reputation, I think it's pretty overrated. Hershey's remains my personal favorite, and it's of a pretty good quality as far as chocolate goes.

[–]Swiftfooted 11 points12 points ago

the center of the giant Kit Kat is all wafer, and it would just taste like wafer

Ahem, that's not just wafer, that's pink wafer. I presume they're not common in the US due to your mistake, but let me tell you, they are the nicest biscuits in existence (anyone who argues clearly doesn't know what they're talking about) and are a major part of why, to me at least, this giant Kit Kat is even more jizztastic.

[–]meltedmuffin 2 points3 points ago

it's like you've never even tried a hobnob chocolate cream

[–]Swiftfooted 1 point2 points ago

Aha! I know what this is. God is trying to test me. Lead me not into temptation and all that jazz. But no, I shall not stray from the path of the pink wafer!

God, all this talk has got me really hungry for biscuits. Time for a Sainsburys break me thinks.

[–]veyronb 1 point2 points ago

Lead me not into temptation and all that jizz

FTFY

[–]marshalmallow 2 points3 points ago

As a Swiss person I must disagree. There is only one kind of good chocolate on this planet.

[–]Swiftfooted 2 points3 points ago

I was talking about biscuits, not chocolate. You're quite right about chocolate though, personally I'd say that:

Hersheys < Nestle < Cadbury < Green & Blacks = Lindt

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]marr 1 point2 points ago

Pink wafers pretty much taste of pink, the generic flavour of airline food desserts. It's basically icing sugar with a hint of vanilla.

[–]Ifunctiononkitkats 0 points1 point ago

this kit kat already was jizztastic

[–]simonjp 0 points1 point ago

Kit Kat chocolate isn't Nestlé chocolate, it's Rowntree chocolate. It's got more of a caramel flavour.

[–]steakbake 3 points4 points ago

The thought of KitKats actually being made with Cadburys chocolate is getting me pretty excited.

[–]thastoner 1 point2 points ago

why not post it from pimpmysnack, why should imgur get the hits for something stolen from another site

[–]Ifunctiononkitkats 0 points1 point ago

what's wrong with that?

[–]wjw75 5 points6 points ago

Looks good, but it would probably taste more authentic if you used Yorkie bars instead of Dairy Milk.

[–]parksidekilla 2 points3 points ago

[–]The_Mad_Highlander 2 points3 points ago

I like how they used a special K box for a bar mold.

[–]WimzicalStranger 2 points3 points ago

You're a bit late for the chocolate war.

[–]Ocrasorm 3 points4 points ago

I knew it!!! I was always told you have to use special cooking chocolate to melt and if you tried it with a Dairymilk bar it would just burn and be rotten!!

Cadbury RiceCrispy buns here I come!!

[–]Cdresden 8 points9 points ago

You just have to be careful not to let the chocolate get too hot. Chocolate melts at just below human body temp, but if you let it get too hot, the emulsion will allow crystal to form when it cools, and it will be gritty. Usually chop it up and use a double boiler, then when it's all half melted, remove it from the heat, and it will melt the rest of the way on its own.

[–]niamhish 5 points6 points ago

I always thought this too until very recently. Cooking chocolate is not even real chocolate, it's chocolate flavour. I feel like I've been lied to all my life. I think my mother was just cheap and refused to make rice crispy buns with real chocolate.

[–]Ocrasorm 2 points3 points ago

This is unreal news. This weekend I am going to make a fricken mountain of them!!

[–]Ocrasorm 5 points6 points ago

Holy shit! After some ninja googling there have been some serious lies to me. Apparently one can melt pretty much any chocolate bar they want!!

In Ireland we have the bars called Catch bars. Apparently when melted they make a great mixture with vanilla Icecream!

My life has literally changed, my big ginger head is going to have some serious sugar rush!!

Ok I am calm again.

[–]niamhish 6 points7 points ago

I'm in Ireland too. Maybe it's an Irish thing? I don't think I've ever heard other nationalities refer to cooking chocolate.

My revelation came a few months ago. I decided to make some caramel shortbread. I searched the local Centra for cooking choc to no avail so I decided to chance using those large Galaxy bars. I test melted a bit first. My mother was telling me that "it would burn and go bitter and you can't cook with real chocolate, I've been cooking for decades and I know better than you". It melted perfectly and I made the best caramel shortbread ever.

The End.

[–]Frankeh 3 points4 points ago

Pan with water in. Bowl on top. Chocolate you want to melt in bowl.

Let the steam hitting the bowl melt the chocolate. Pretty much impossible to burn it this way.

[–]Shadowian 0 points1 point ago

There's even another way to melt chocolate?

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]Shadowian 1 point2 points ago

That's what I was meaning sorry. The method described was the only way I've ever know to melt chocolate.

[–]LadyHayley 0 points1 point ago

Sounds correct. Also, for something like a chocolate fountain I believe putting a little oil in with the chocolate when it melts will keep it melted well for the fountain.

[–]rantifarian 0 points1 point ago

Cooking chocolate tends to be higher in cocoa and lower in sugar than eating chocolate, since most recipes that use it have other sources of sugar. It is more bitter as a result.

[–]Vouk73 4 points5 points ago

"You know, let's just pour it into fucking cardboard!"

Why!?

[–]flif 1 point2 points ago

Looks like an old Danish receipt: kiksekage (Google Translated)

[–]someguyinahat 1 point2 points ago

Why is the font on the chocolate bar different from the font on the wrapper?

[–]Rubix89 1 point2 points ago

I would really love a final image of how they actually ate it.

Because it's not coming to mind and now I'm just depressed.

[–]nommnom 1 point2 points ago

this reminds me of the over the top stuff epic meal time makes except without bacon

[–]Stratocaster89 1 point2 points ago

[–]SanDiablo 1 point2 points ago

Pink wafers? Not the same. Sorry.

[–]Ifunctiononkitkats 1 point2 points ago

I just drooled looking at this picture.

[–]Industriality 1 point2 points ago

This is so wrong. Love it.

[–]Noturordinaryguy 1 point2 points ago

[–]EdynViper 1 point2 points ago

What? Cadbury chocolate to make a Nestle Kit Kat? Blasphemy! I won't stand for it!

Am I the only one struggling to grasp the scale of that? It looks super giant to me, but I can see that the fridge is small.

[–]yemayanozomi 0 points1 point ago

Cadbury chocolate tastes really different to Nestle though!

[–]LordLittlefinger 0 points1 point ago

Just looking at this gave me diabeetus.

But ugh, it's not the right shape :/

[–]xxx_blade_smokah_xxx 0 points1 point ago

[–]abomanisha 0 points1 point ago

I want so bad!

[–]snoozieboi 0 points1 point ago

Every time a "kitkat" is mentioned in an american movie I think it's cat food they're talking about.

[–]BeatlesForSale 0 points1 point ago

Where are you from? Kit-Kats are fairly global things.

[–]snoozieboi 0 points1 point ago

Norway. We do of course have the usual Coke and Pepis etc, but brands like Lay's, Hershey's¨(spelling, I know it from E.T), Kitkat and stuff like twinkies and whatnot that are well embedded in american culture for some reason did not make money here because of European similar brands.

As an extra fact the Coca-cola comp looks at Norway as a miniature USA, they test products here first and anything that breaks through here usually correlates well with the results overthere. Except the URGE soda, we still got it, I got the impression it's discontinued overthere. (We only have regular Coke, + zero and light. Vanilla Coke was tried twice, I think). We also expect Dr. Pepper to taste like Coke the few times we find it in a 7-11.

Edit: Wow, didn't expect this

Edit2: Uh, ok, Hershey's manufacture KitKat... that's how little I know about this market.

[–]BeatlesForSale 0 points1 point ago

I'm in Britain and we get Kit-Kats from Nestlé. Interesting that they're not over there.

[–]Grays42 0 points1 point ago

At 27 years old, the only thing I can think is, "goddamn, that's going to make me sick."

That kinda reminds me of Kalter Hund (lit. Cold Dog, although according to the article the Hund in the name refers to something else). My grandma used to make that one all the time.
