The black cat analogy (i.imgur.com)

I think the analogies may be a little too slanted. Theology might be a darkened room looking for a black cat and stating "I believe a black cat is here". Not all theologians are absolutists. Check out Alan Watts for some good examples of expansive theology. Maybe science could be a darkened room and the hypothesis that if a black cat were there, it would be based on a set of possible conditions. Just some thoughts... Interesting set up for analogies.

Philosophy is like being in a dark room and thinking about a black cat with your eyes shut.

I like this idea a lot. It's kind of eye opening. It reminds me of when we read Animal Farm in middle school. We got a sheet of paper describing the differences between socialism, communism, capitalism, ect... with pig analogies. I think the overall idea is cool. Maybe just needs reworked.

I think philosophy (including metaphysics) deserve more credit than this analogy gives. Often philosophy, and particularly metaphysics, are trying to answer question that don't make sense to approach scientifically. That doesn't mean what they're looking for doesn't exist, and those fields are certainly more than a vocalization away from some theology (some theology falls into the category of philosophy).

I personally adore this analogy, I think it describes the beliefs perfectly. I especially love the science description, which is my personal belief.
