.. Am I missing something? This seems like a joke, poking fun at Christians. Who really do believe the "billion-galaxy universe was created for us"..

[–]SaxyTimeReloaded[S] 116 points117 points ago

The person that posted it on facebook is a devout christian... I just don't understand.

[–]mage_g4 285 points286 points ago

The person that posted it on facebook is a devout christian... I just don't understand.

I think you will find that they don't understand. I doubt they created it and I am 99.9% sure that whoever did meant it as satire.

[–]rekonq 78 points79 points ago

The arrogant belief that the entire billion-galaxy universe was not created for us.

Yep, definitely satire. It's either that or someone added a "not" and replaced "christianity" with "atheism" unintentionally. Which doesn't seem at all likely.

[–]Eyshld21sn 3 points4 points ago

Yeah actually I've seen this ages ago.

[–]LeetroyJnkns 65 points66 points ago

The fundy failed the Poe test.

[–]Joedang100 9 points10 points ago

What is the Poe test? Is it an extension of Poe's Law?

[–]LeetroyJnkns 13 points14 points ago

Obvious answer is obvious.

[–]sprucenoose 4 points5 points ago

Or passed. We'll never know...

[–]LeetroyJnkns 11 points12 points ago

No. This DeMo was definitely made by an atheist for atheists.

[–]sprucenoose 2 points3 points ago

Ah. I didn't realize this DeMo was actually a FABA.

[–]GATTACABear 5 points6 points ago

Sooo many terms I don't understand in this thread

[–]MoldyMoose 2 points3 points ago

DeMotivational. Not sure about FABA, though.

[–]shivering 1 point2 points ago

For Atheists By Atheists?

Never heard of FUBU?

[–]abumpdabump 10 points11 points ago

well I'm 0.01% sure they DIDN"T make it as satire.

[–]mindbleach 1 point2 points ago

Not satire, just sarcasm.

[–]mage_g4 1 point2 points ago

Actually it's kinda both. It's a deliberate send up of the christians saying we're arrogant, therefore satire.

[–]Bla34112 37 points38 points ago

I don't think the devout christian quite understands the joke

[–]AAKurtz 31 points32 points ago

Well... and judging by the title, nor did the reddit poster.

[–]gngstrMNKY 11 points12 points ago

One thing we can all agree on - Irish babies are delicious.

[–]Maezren 4 points5 points ago

I prefer the alcoholic Irish babies myself.

[–]Gathras 7 points8 points ago

Enjoy James' son responsibly!

[–]YeNdEz 1 point2 points ago

I only eat single malt.

[–]The0isaZero 12 points13 points ago

Hahaha, brilliant! Someone who doesn't bother reading before posting..

[–]robopilgrim 6 points7 points ago

Probably not the only thing they haven't bothered to read.

[–]MadeOfStarStuff 29 points30 points ago

"Atheist" and "arrogant"? This'll teach them!

[–]crankykitten 7 points8 points ago

Total non-seq here, but nice name.

[–]MadeOfStarStuff 1 point2 points ago

Thank you! :-)

[–]BantamBasher135 10 points11 points ago

Yeah, whatever the intention of the person posting, this is completely bashing those who DO think that a billion galaxy universe was created for us, which is incredibly arrogant.

[–]Strawberry_Poptart 3 points4 points ago

It sounds like they just don't understand sarcasm.

[–]Spacedementia87 -1 points0 points ago

*irony

[–]crankykitten 4 points5 points ago

Clearly they are not bright enough to recognize that it is meant facetiously...

[–]PizzaGood 0 points1 point ago

They need to look up the word "sarcasm" and try applying their new knowledge.

[–]horriblydishonest 0 points1 point ago

My guess is that with your statement right there that the devout christian is a moron, and has no clue that he posted something making fun of himself. That would just be the definition of irony you are witnessing first hand OP.

[–]PocketHobbit -2 points-1 points ago

Sounds like an incidence of Dunning-Kruger

[–]scurvebeard 1 point2 points ago

How? Nobody's demonstrating overconfidence/incompetence in a field ( or, for that matter, self-doubt/expertise.)

[–]shadowwork 2 points3 points ago

wanted to upvote for your astute principal dropping

wanted to downvote for your arrogantly esoteric principal dropping

result:stalemate.

I’ll get you next time PocketHobbit....neeext tiiime.

[–]numpad -1 points0 points ago

Poe's law.

[–]Almost_Ascended -1 points0 points ago

He's too stupid to realize that the image was mocking Christianity instead.

[–]Rixxer -1 points0 points ago

That's what happens when you don't think.

[–]shadowwork 3 points4 points ago

definitely satire! in this case the fundie opted into the modest proposal. Looks like we atheists will soon have a few more dinner guests.

[–]Trashcanman33 2 points3 points ago

My Grandmother has gone to Mass everyday for 80 years. She thinks there may be intelligent aliens, because why would God make the universe so massive for just us. She says it's one of the questions she wants to ask him when she dies.

[–]Digipy 0 points1 point ago

It's sarcasm at its finest.

[–]studmuffffffin 46 points47 points ago

I think that image was created by atheists. We often get called arrogant, but it's showing how we're not arrogant by using some sarcasm.

[–]OnionWillDesecrate 10 points11 points ago

And we have a winner!

[–]ZeroGSpaceCow 9 points10 points ago

Too bad Christians still repost it...

[–]digitalchris 13 points14 points ago

You mean completely awesome.

[–]Tyrath 38 points39 points ago

Poe's law at its finest.

[–]OnionWillDesecrate 9 points10 points ago

Can someone explain Poe's Law to me? I'm seeing it around a bit, lately.

[–]wouldgillettemby 24 points25 points ago

This should help.

Poe's Law is an axiom suggesting that it's difficult, if not impossible, to distinguish between parodies of religious or other fundamentalism and its genuine proponents, since they both seem equally insane.

[–]Colonel_Gentleman 5 points6 points ago

Some apply it to political arguments as well.

[–]shizzler 0 points1 point ago

[–]landwalker1 16 points17 points ago

This is sarcasm. Your friend is obviously stupid and didn't catch it. These are the same people that would have criticized the clearly viable option of eating children.

[–]Captain_Airstrip_One 0 points1 point ago

Good catch. Well, that proves atheists are idiots - they can't even count!

[–]Weezy_F_Bunny -1 points0 points ago

Clicked, then immediately scrolled down looking for this comment. Glad you had it covered.

[–]Aiwatcher 4 points5 points ago

It was made as a joke against Christians. Serious Poe's law going on right now.

[–]mage_g4 2 points3 points ago

I think this is supposed to be satire... In fact, I am almost certain this is satire.

[–]AAKurtz 4 points5 points ago

..? It's not serious buddy. It's clearly being sarcastic.

[–]hooshbag 8 points9 points ago

Yeah I feel like this is almost meant to be sarcastic? As in an atheist made this, but if it is serious then I think the person who created it doesn't understand arrogance or irony.

[–]namith 2 points3 points ago

This image was created by atheists as sarcasm. If a Christian posted this, then they have a poor sarcasm detector.

[–]blue_oxen 4 points5 points ago

I don't think arrogant means what they think it means.

This is so obviously sarcastic that it doesn't even need pointing out that it is a repost

[–]SaxyTimeReloaded[S] -2 points-1 points ago

Thanks Similar... So happy to have your help.

[–]awesomefloss 1 point2 points ago

Because if I saw a sandwich sitting on the table it would be arrogant to think it wasn't for me

[–]VengefulFuries 1 point2 points ago

Isn't this sarcasm?

[–]Evil_Morg 1 point2 points ago

That is ridiculous, "billion galaxy universe". Try five hundred billion.

Some people...

[–]FreeThinkerLee 0 points1 point ago

really, if your going to take the time to do a meme, you can at least do a simple google search to make sure its accurate.

[–]Cptnwalrus 1 point2 points ago

I smell satire.

Like a lot of satire...

[–]duchovny 1 point2 points ago

[–]DrVonDoom 1 point2 points ago

Poe's Law.

Just because they don't know that's it's satire doesn't mean it isn't.

[–]flaming_swordsman 1 point2 points ago

we are less than 0.0000000000000000000000000001% of the universe, so obviously it was created for us; the same way ice cream was created just for me, so don't have any without asking me first

[–]SteelGun 1 point2 points ago

[ ] This is Serious.

[√] This is not actually serious.

[–]NoOddJob 5 points6 points ago

Atheists: Some can't even understand sarcasm.

[–]rockoman100 3 points4 points ago

Christians: Too stupid to identify sarcasm

[–]new-socks 9 points10 points ago

Apparently some atheists (I'm looking at you, OP) also fit this bill.

[–]OnionWillDesecrate 2 points3 points ago

Hey, guys. Remember when I was talking about the definition or irony?

[–]that_guitar_guy 0 points1 point ago

Poe's law be damned. This isn't serious.

[–]Thehuntmaster89 0 points1 point ago

The sad thing is even though this is obviously a joke, it honestly sounds like something they would say.

[–]irishmann313 0 points1 point ago

And they call us the arrogant ones....

[–]mudcrabwrestler 0 points1 point ago

Poe's Law at work

[–]sd543 0 points1 point ago

Words cannot explain my undying hatred and anger...

[–]ZeroGSpaceCow 0 points1 point ago

I've seen very similar postings from Christians. The irony is overwhelming.

[–]xhephaestusx 0 points1 point ago

ummm the image macro isn't serious, the person who posted it is stone-cold mentally handicapped

[–]loukouk 0 points1 point ago

Obvious troll is really really obvious

[–]theheartlesshero 0 points1 point ago

The best part is the devout christian is too stupid to see the irony. im sure thats what the creator meant too. if he didnt, makes it even funnier

[–]Stillwatch 0 points1 point ago

I think someone doesn't understand sarcasm.

[–]run_game_toke_ponder 0 points1 point ago

I think whoever created that meant ignorant, not arrogant... It could be labeled as arrogant, maybe, to believe that it was all created for the people of earth, but not the other way around.

[–]SamWalt 0 points1 point ago

Really the most egregious part about this is the complete misunderstanding of the word "arrogant".

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

It's called satire

[–]Rocketpoodle 0 points1 point ago

Theism: The arrogant belief that an infinite-galaxy universe was created for us.

[–]Cwjdog57 0 points1 point ago

Poe's Law, my good sir.

[–]17Hongo 0 points1 point ago

It isn't serious.

[–]SomniareSolace 0 points1 point ago

ಠ_ಠ

[–]Momordicas 0 points1 point ago

I believe this is satire.

[–]toastyghost 0 points1 point ago

it's not serious, although the stupid person posting in on facebook clearly thought it was.

[–]EvOllj 0 points1 point ago

In case you dont get this part:

All religions are essentially fictional social satire gone bad by being taken as non-fiction 2 generations later.

[–]Canrex 0 points1 point ago

Bro, you missed Bash-Atheist day,

[–]SpacedO 0 points1 point ago

This poster has always been known as a joke. If this christian guy doesn't understand that then it's already too late for him XD

[–]XSavageWalrusX 0 points1 point ago

I think that this is meant to be a satirical photo.

[–]ifuxwithdat 0 points1 point ago

I think they read 'Atheism... the arrogant belief' and stopped reading there because it validated their feelings and saved them from devastating critical thought.

[–]darkangelx 0 points1 point ago

Obvious troll is Obvoius

[–]RiskyBrothers 0 points1 point ago

Congratulations, you changed 3 words in a picture bashing christianity. (directed at the fb poster)

[–]OhhhhhDirty 0 points1 point ago

This chick saw "Atheist" and "arrogant" in the same sentence and rolled with it, typical.

[–]HerpinaDerpster 0 points1 point ago

Gotta be kiddin' us. Or just incredibly stupid. That hurts my eyes. è_é

[–]eddiepoopsmith 0 points1 point ago

This should be in WTF

[–]MKSLAYER97 0 points1 point ago

It looks to me like it actually is a joke.

[–]danceydancetime 0 points1 point ago

They don't understand. The poster is supposed to be a joke, poking fun at religious people.

[–]iamlegend676 0 points1 point ago

i'm sorry sir but you have indeed misspelled religions

[–]fknbastard 0 points1 point ago

Poe's law...any fundamental religious satire is likely to be taken seriously by friend and foe.

Any serious fundamental religious statement is just as likely to mistaken as satire by both the devout and the opposed

[–]aliendude5300 0 points1 point ago

Wait... it should be the other way around. Believing the galaxy was not created for us is quite humble...

[–]kilimanjaro_ 0 points1 point ago

Isn't the use of the word arrogant a tad hypocritical?

[–]EpicDougC 0 points1 point ago

I thought it was a joke

[–]shanereid1 -1 points0 points ago

                                   Relegion

the ignorant belief that there is a magic man in the sky who cares.

[–]Simultanagnosia -1 points0 points ago

Well you know there is a self-centered bias, then there is a bias that arises in response to the self-centered bias which is the no-self-center bias that denies all possibility that the universe could be centered around human-like existence.

So take the possibility that we play an integral role in the appearance of the universe and therefor objective truth cannot be separated from subjective experience. There may even be a possibility that reality is not only different from how we perceive it but there is a specific way in which our perception varies from reality which can be inferred from studying the structure of perception itself.

Anyone who felt it necessary to deny that the universe could be so constituted would also ignore good arguments and evidence that it is the case. So either bias is potentially problematic. Whether one is biased to seeing the universe in a self-centered way or biased toward not seeing it in a self-centered way, the same potential of denying possibilities and accepting other possibilities a priori takes place.

[–]sprunkiely -2 points-1 points ago

I hyperventilated laughed at that. Oh, religion.
