"and don't matter to you" I think this is where those people would disagree. Clearly anonymous arrow-clickers matter to some people. I personally enjoy reading positive comments from people, and sometimes even negative comments if they contain constructive criticism or contribute to the conversation in a positive manner, but sometimes just seeing that number grow is nice, even if no words go with it.

I think "but it's people who don't know you" actually adds to it. I mean, if they click that arrow, it's because they wanted to, not because they're someone who knows you and feels obligated to support whatever you choose to do.

As for "and the only person who's actually counting is you", that's not always true either. For example, you have 509 link and about 8K comment. I have less on both counts, but I can still compare. I'm counting.

You not caring about it doesn't mean it suddenly has no value to other people. You're effectively playing the game whether you want to or not. You have a score. Now, you may not care about the score, but the score exists. You don't give a fuck about the number? That's cool. That doesn't mean how you feel defines what others should. Your satisfaction is wholly irrelevant in the context of how others view the numbers.

I don't see how it's "broken" at all. Numbers are numbers. Some people care about them, some don't. It's not really an indicator of personal merit or lack thereof, though calling others who hold different values "broken" certainly is.

To your question, I'd answer neither. You've offered a false dichotomy when it comes to choices, and I think you know that.

Honestly, I've explained it in a simple manner that is easy to grasp. If you don't get it, I don't know what to say. If you disagree, that's fine too. You can do that. People are allowed to hold opposing viewpoints.

With that, I'm out waves Your phrasing has been argumentative, so I don't really feel like wasting any more time talking to you.

And I can do that too. That's the beauty of the system.

Anyone that thinks they are better than anyone else based on an arbitrary internet number is indeed a very broken, failed human being. It's the bottom of the barrel in terms of accomplishments, which is why nobody else gives a shit about it. Most people have things in life that they are proud of, things people actually care about. Not this nonsense.

So as the creator of this post, I felt like I should give you my side of the story.

In regards to you saying that most people have actual things to care about; that would include me. I am an honor role student at a prestigious and high performing school, I am a state class musician, and a decent rugby player. I volunteer, have a decent social life as well as a beautiful girlfriend. Just because I have this going for me does not mean that I am any less of a person because I take stock in Karma. Its not like I have spent excessive amounts of time, money, and energy into this website. It simply tells me that some people enjoyed what I had to offer. I didn't actually freak out like that (just clarifying for safety), but I thought it would be funny since some people spend lots of time trying to gain Karma. It was a relatable issue that I though people might enjoy.

Also, not once did LAC1987 once say that they were better or worse based on the amount of Karma. It simply stands a symbol; a symbol that shows that you have put some time and energy.

Third, if someone doesn't think the same way as you, it doesn't innately make them incorrect. Just because you don't take any stock in Karma doesn't mean that everyone who does is an idiot.

Finally, in your second to last sentence, you put a comma between 'of' and 'things' making that grammatically incorrect and rendering your argument invalid

I honestly don't see why people find this impressive. I made one, obvious, common sense opinion on the subject of Diablo 3 when it came out and within 48 hours I had gotten over 900 upvotes.

I don't even care about that game and I rarely post about things I feel will have my opinion reflected by someone else. But if there's one thing I learned about Reddit, it's that it is so easy to manipulate the "hive-mind" for imaginary points that the whole concept of them having any meaning or value is a complete farce.
