Well... Based on the position of the shoulders, lady to the right seems to be leaning towards the camera, therefore it would be her head.

On the other hand, lady to the left's clothing seems to match the hat more. Therefore, the head could be her's.

But, looking closer, one can clearly see the angle of lady to the left's neck (shown in red here, blue being lady to the right's neck), and unless she has a massively long and flexible neck, the head belongs to lady on the right.

Also; the norm for hugs seem to be leaning towards the left side of the other participant.

I don't think she is. You are most likely basing your thesis on the shading on her right arm.

If you look at her upper arm, which is lit in the same manner as the right woman's face(picture), you can see that it shares a similar complection.

Let's study some old B/W photos of people of African descent. Here, we can can clearly see that even though the boy is illuminated with sunlight, his skin tone is fairly dark, unlike the woman to the left(in OP's photo). I am also attaching some more black/white photos, for further reference to how skin tone is portrayed in such photos. 1 2 3 4(I feel the difference in skin tone of these twins accurately illustrates my point)

I don't know... In your first photo evidence if you look at the boy on the lefts arms, his left arm is fairly pale. And if you look at his right arm you can see the left vertical half is pretty dark (in shadow) while the right vertical side is pretty pale (in sunlight).

Just saying it is still possible.

Its the person on the left, you can tell by the placement of the arms and the chin resting on the other person's shoulder. Also the right person's hand is awfully wrinkly, so I would imagine the face would be as well.
