You ever see a game where everyone you know tells you it sucks, but it just looks SO DAMN COOL, and you're sure that they're all just stupid haters and they just didn't "get it", and you just know the game will be absolutely amazing, then you get your hands on it finally and go "Aw man, it really does suck..."

That was LA Noire for me. I genuinely hope you get more enjoyment out of it than I did, but when I saw your post it made me cringe a little.

What? LA Noire didn't suck, it's exactly what is was made to be. Too many a time I have heard from friends that they expected it to be a 1940's GTA, and that it sucks because it wasn't, thats because they never said it would be!.

I didn't at all expect a 1949s GTA. I was told exactly what it was...basically a modern update to the adventure game genre. And I dunno, I can't pinpoint anything I hated, because there really wasn't anything I liked. Everything seemed SO arbitrary in it. ESPECIALLY the interviews...seriously. Those were terrible. The game hints "When someone does X, it means Y". So I accuse them of Y, and the game basically goes "HAHA WRONG! It was actually Z! You failed the case."

The combat was crap, the running and driving were crap. Seriously if you're not going to make it GTA-style, I'm 100% okay with that...but don't make me drive safely and carefully all the way across town from crime scene to crime scene.

It also greatly suffered from a trope the old adventure games suffered from, I believe it was called the one-pixel puzzle (don't quote me on that though), where the clue or item you have to interact with is barely larger than one pixel, and really easy to miss no matter how many times you go over the site.

I want to say it was graphically amazing. I do. In many ways? It was. However the pop-in was RIDICULOUS. I'd be driving down the streets of LA and blank billboards would suddenly spring into existence. Then as I approached, the ads would magically congeal on them. And the characters were WAAAAY too uncanny valley for me. It reminded me of the Spielberg/Zemeckis mocap movies like Polar Express, A Christmas Carol, and Tintin....they all made my skin crawl just because the animation was so creepy.
