I don't understand American opposition to state (here I mean national, excuse me) healthcare.

It works better than making people pay out of the nose for treatments and/or insurance. Every nation that uses this system has a better (statistically speaking) level of health care than you do. They have a longer average life span. They have lower deaths from treatable ailments.

I don't see what political alignment has to do with the health of a population. It's beyond petty. "We're not going to support this because the democrats came up with it. Screw the people, we don't care." Is the message it sends out.

It's not state. It's federal.

I think that's what he meant. Since he's speaking on a national level throughout the rest of his comment.

Excuse me, I should have said national. It doesn't change anything though.

It does change everything. If it was up to the state then it'd be a completely different ball game. Say you want universal health care, move to Massachusetts. What if you don't? South Carolina, Texas, etc. It should be up to the people of the state not the federal government.

I don't think you know how this works..

If a nation has universal health care, that doesn't exclude or outlaw private healthcare..

What universal health care does is offer a high level of medical care to all members of the population, not just those that can afford insurance.

So we have the NHS in the UK - there are still massive private healthcare options, such as BUPA, for those that want it. The important thing is that people have the choice.

I don't get calling preferring money to healthy humans "conservative". Seems the definition of that word is drastically stretched out of shape. Never mind that the economic benefits for business are massive. Better healthcare = More productive workers.

Also is using a dwarf from the UK really an appropriate gif since he is a recipient and contributor to a nationalized healthcare system? ;)

Like when some idiots took Stephan Hawking and said "this man would not have survived if he had to rely on the NHS!" - when, in fact, he is a staunch supporter of the NHS and would have died much earlier in life without all of the care he received from them.

The funny thing is, I'm hearing Romney posturing against this law so hard. But, I live in Massachusetts where you get taxed if you don't get health coverage. A law he created when he was governor.

Nice, I'm getting downvoted because for pointing out that I have to have health coverage. This is why I keep my fingers out of the Reddit political floor pie. (A floor pie is the same thing as bukkake)

Because Massachusetts wanted it. That was his job as governor to serve the people of the state of Massachusetts. But there are states like South Carolina or Texas who DON'T want it. Now the federal government is stepping in and forcing them to have it. Romney never would have forced his state to use that health care system. He only served his people regardless of his stance.

It gets better, when you go looking for direct quotes. "It's not a tax hike; it is a fee, an assessment" - Romney (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HymUU7OADbU)

I'm not sure what you're going for.
