Moving to Canada? (i.imgur.com)

[–]Ronald_McFondlled 17 points18 points19 points 1 month ago
so if i'm correct they're moving because they want to get away from universal healthcare? why would anyone NOT want universal healthcare?
[–]MyAnusIsBroken 4 points5 points6 points 1 month ago
Maybe they like paying for as they go, and don't have a serious illness? Sorry if I'm wrong.
[–]Ronald_McFondlled -2 points-1 points0 points 1 month ago
well i think it would work better if they did get a disease that was deadly. it's like insurance. wait. it's better.
[–]TheClayroo 2 points3 points4 points 1 month ago
I live in Canada, have suffered concussions from sports requiring CT scans, kidney stones 3 times which required CT scans and treatment, broken bones requiring x-rays and a couple casts.
I have paid 0$ at the hospital, but I get 140$ taken off my paycheck to cover things like this. Well worth every penny. My only issue is the amount we end up paying for smoking and drinking-related health issues. Billions a year on lung cancer and liver cancer patients.
[–]AirthQuake 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago
I had the option of getting health insurance (American here). It would have cost me over $250 a month to have $50-$80 copays plus it didn't really cover much unless i gave birth. $140 a paycheck for total care? Win!! I am moving to canada!
[–]LightOfDarkness 1 point2 points3 points 1 month ago
Plus if you have any dependents like children or retired seniors, you don't need to pay extra for their health insurance plans
[–]TheClayroo 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago
That's for everything. We also lose a bit for Canadian Pension Plan which will be dried up by the time I'm retired, as well as Employment Insurance.
[–]Ronald_McFondlled 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago
well, i think it's better that they get treatment then just possibly not have the money to support themselves.
[–]TheClayroo -1 points0 points1 point 1 month ago
People have had the risks of smoking at them for decades now and the threat of cancer hasn't scared anyone. Show them a $500,000 hospital bill for their cancer treatment and watch how quickly people stop smoking here. Except Quebec, they smoke like it's the cure for cancer.
[–]Ronald_McFondlled -1 points0 points1 point 1 month ago
yeah, i know where you're coming from, but not everyone that has cancer even lung cancer got it from smoking. maybe they got it from second-hand smoke but that is it.
I know, there would have to be tests done before it could be determined, but doctors can tell once they've looked inside. I'm not saying we should cut them off, I just don't like how this is where a good chunk of our money is going. We're taking good steps to limit the exposure to second-hand smoke. No longer allowed to in a vehicle with a child in some cities, restaurants have eliminated it, and they even want to ban it in city parks and public areas. Basically they'll have it down to you can smoke in your own house and that's it.
yeah, i don't like when someone smokes and then is like oh i have cancer, now i deserve treatment it's like fuck you, you knew what you were doing.
[–]TheClayroo 1 point2 points3 points 1 month ago
Ya I hate that non-smokers fork over cash, but smokers pay a ton for cigarettes in Canada ($10-14/pack for premium brands) so a lot gets reimbursed through the taxes on smokes. But if a cokehead can have their deviated septum fixed then who shouldn't get help? If a skydiver falls without a parachute and manages to live should they say, "Well you jumped from a plane, idiot." If a scuba diver is attacked by a shark, would a hospital refuse because the guy was in the shark's home? That's where it gets into semantics. Most injuries were a result of somebody doing something that posed a risk of sorts. They wouldn't be able to draw a line.
The number of smokers is dropping drastically anyways, I hope to see the day where it's banned.

CUZ SOCIALISM BRAH.
OBAMA IS A COMMUNIST LIKE HITLER.
HURRR DE GURDY!
[–]mustfndnewname 3 points4 points5 points 1 month ago
No, they dislike obamacare. They arent necessarily against socila healthcare, just poorly executed social healthcare.
[–]Ronald_McFondlled 1 point2 points3 points 1 month ago
i see no evidence it is poorly executed. in fact it seems very WELL executed just misunderstood.
[–]mustfndnewname -1 points0 points1 point 1 month ago
Have you read the entire bill?
[–]Kensin 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago
Greed mostly. They don't see why their money (taxes) have to go to help anyone but themselves.
yeah i never got that. lets NOT have universal health care. instead every other tax imaginable.
[–]Houshalter 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago
Well, they believe that it will cost more or decrease in quality. I'm not saying I do, that's just the what they think. That or maybe they don't want or can't afford insurance, which is true for a lot of people.
[–]urmik1999 27 points28 points29 points 1 month ago
I don't understand this mandatory healthcare. What is healthcare anyway? Sorry, not from the US and non-native English speaker, so I'm not familiar with this term. Would someone explain please?
[–]a4moondoggy 8 points9 points10 points 1 month ago
welcome to reddit, where you get downvoted for posing a good question and upvoted for making a stupid joke.
[–]reed311 -1 points0 points1 point 1 month ago
A good question that can be answered by google in about 2.2 seconds.
[–]truncatedChronologis 1 point2 points3 points 1 month ago
Healthcare is the term for medical treatment. Specifically this healthcare we are reffering to is free treatment, which canada has and the united states is adopting.
[–]urmik1999 2 points3 points4 points 1 month ago
So that's nice, right?
[–]Todomanna 3 points4 points5 points 1 month ago
The legislation, as it stands, will force people to buy private health care, though. This is the problem for many people. There are ways to make it easier on the people who can't afford to pay for it, but it's far from a perfect system.
[–]urmik1999 3 points4 points5 points 1 month ago
Well there's no such a thing as a utopia. Thanks for clarifying!
[–]designatedjohnny 9 points10 points11 points 1 month ago
Yes and I am moving to Death Valley to get away from this heat.
[–]BadLuckCharm 4 points5 points6 points 1 month ago
I have a few friends on FB who just said things like "moving to canada/england sounds good, obama is the devil, fuck obamacare can't believe this got passed" etc. I'm shocked that none of them know that Canada and England have forms of national healthcare. These people are idiots.
[–]bsjay 8 points9 points10 points 1 month ago
Nice try Canada.
[–]dhockey63 3 points4 points5 points 1 month ago
I live in Texas and yet havent heard any one say they would move to canada because of healthcare.....where is all this talk coming from?

Checked his twitter. That guy was joking. The next 20 tweets are him explaining to people that he was being sarcastic
[–]downhere 5 points6 points7 points 1 month ago
Canadian here, Even if you don't like our healthcare you can come for the Trailer Park Boys and Poutine.
[–]WindsAndWords 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago
Eat enough Poutine and you'll need the healthcare. An' it's hard not to eat that much Poutine.
[–]morrise18 2 points3 points4 points 1 month ago
Booooooooooooo
[–]Houshalter 1 point2 points3 points 1 month ago
This isn't necessarily true. As I understand it if you stay in the US you will have to pay for insurance or an expensive fine where as in Canada you just have higher taxes, which may or may not cost less, and you still get healthcare even if you can't afford insurance.
[–]NELCgeek 1 point2 points3 points 1 month ago
I've only seen this "moving to Canada" complaint on Reddit.

Actually, you'll find yourself well taken care of and around some of the most courteous people in the Americas
[–]metaljunkie 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago
What? who would do this?
[–]tr0tsky[S] 1 point2 points3 points 1 month ago
These people? I have to hope they're being facetious, or my faith in humanity is going to dip to critical levels.
[–]esoterrorcat 2 points3 points4 points 1 month ago
laughing as i put a shotgun in my mouth
[–]metaljunkie 1 point2 points3 points 1 month ago
I didn't even know people could be this dumb. I'm surprised that I can still be surprised.
[–]Quietbetrayal 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago
It's just people saying outlandish things to get attention because something happened that they don't like. There was a ton of liberals and democrats saying that they would move to Canada if Bush got elected. Probably a couple actually went but most of them were just trying to go to the extremes to show their anger.
[–]Sunupu 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago
Wait, is this a thing? I remember people saying this when Bush got elected and reelected, but I've never once heard somebody say they'd move if Obamacare was upheld...
[–]s2011 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago
You mean like the hordes of people who said they were going to move to Canada if Bush won the second term?
[–]AtomikaNova 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago
For anyone that hasn't seen it, go watch "Sicko" by "Michael Moore".
[–]Zykenhouzen 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago
Wait. I thought this was just a mandate that everyone is required to have some form of healthcare or pay a fine... The jargon has gotten in the way of facts.
[–]adam566 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago
Don't TELL them that. You think us Americans want the assholes like that anyway?
[–]kingart13 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago
at least weed is legal there
[–]govtbovin3 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago
Apparently the USAs fucking mental.
[–]lettuce99 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago
but on the plus side people wont attack your country.
[–]John8_32 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago
Except that you aren't required to register for provincial health care in Canada. It's like the DMV: you don't have to get a DL, but you can't drive without one.
Oh, and prescriptions aren't included in provincial healthcare, so you have to buy separate insurance to pay for them. And Canadian prescription coverage costs about 6x as much as American full coverage. For now.
source: I used to live in Alberta, now I live in Texas.
[–]othergallow -1 points0 points1 point 1 month ago
But prescription drugs themselves are cheaper in Canada.
