The ride is still up(and most likely be for a very long time) and the spider goes up every October for fright fest. This is at Six flags magic mountain if anyone was wondering.

Damn wall street hedge funds. (One bought out Six Flags, mismanaged it, ended up closing a few of them (Astro World being one of the victims), then sold it off for a profit.

If I had the capital, I'd totally buy that real estate and rebuild it as a theme park. I'd even get Six Flags involved so I could call it astro world: I'd then rebuild the rides with the same name, but have them all re-engineered to be more awesome than before and updated: Batman would be designed around TDKR, but would also have stuff from all the previous Batman stuff, like a garage of Batmobiles, serial thriller would be more awesome than ever before, XLR8 would have all new stuff, etc. (The wood roller coaster would be the same though.)

As long as they don't go upside down, I'm fine. But if they have loops, then I am overwhelmed with this irrational fear that my belt/harness will break. I still go on them because I feel that once I get through the first one, my fear will go away. Nope, it actually gets worse.

Ya i suppose if you think about those things it could be a bit much for the mind. I tend to hope that today isn't the day that the coaster won't fail and it will just do what it is designed to do. I tend to think the same way with airplanes also.

I read somewhere a while back that in loops, the harness isn't even necessary because the G forces would keep you firmly in your seat throughout the loop. So, that's some food for thought next time you go on a rollercoaster. Even if the harness completely comes unlocked and opens up, you're not going anywhere.

Therapist here! Your brain doesn't stop developing until around 25 yrs old. The part of our brains that cause impulsive behavior develop first, the front of the brain that holds our "rational" senses develops later. Hence why when we're young we have minimal boundaries for daredevil-like things and as we age we are hesitant (you know, with fears of falling out of the harness of a roller coaster...)

I have acrophobia too, and I love rollercoasters. The first climb is terrifying, but the adrenaline from the first drop soon compensates.

Right there with you. I close my eyes for the climb up and get very antsy and upset if my seat companion talks to me, especially about how high up we are. After we crest the hill, though, I am completely relaxed... except for my death grip on whatever hand-holds are available.

If you are super afraid of roller coasters, whatever the specific fear may be(perhaps the coaster will break and crash). My Question is, how does your fear not roll over to your daughter? By this I mean, how are you not scared for her safety or whatever your afraid of?

I hacks found that enclosed roller coasters make it better, even I they go high. I rode one that even want backwards and super high once but it was completely In the dark. But if I can see everything starts spinning.
