ProTip: Cats prefer running water, and especially prefer to drink water that is not in the immediate vicinity of their food. This becomes more evident with age - many old cats die of kidney failure, often caused by poor hydration because the cat won't drink from a water dish sitting next to their food.

I found out about this fact on Reddit and actually noticed a change because I moved the water bowl away from the food bowl for my kitties. They stopped drinking out of the toilet and actually used their bowl.

That's very interesting I'm experiencing the exact same thing with my cat. She's 17 years old and really doesn't like water from the sink when i put it next to her food..but she loves to drink water when it's in a pussdle.

Well, water that is not moving would in nature more often then not indicate it being stale, thus dangerous.

A moving stream is a safer option. So it might be that strange.
