Thanks for the xpost. I unsubscribed to a lot of the default subreddits to keep the wheat separate from the chaff.

[–]jerstud56 4 points5 points ago

Me too the riff raff was turning to choas so I ditched all the "main" subreddits. Now that I think about I haven't really seen any reposts since then.

Why are they evacuating so late? The fire is already so close.

Man you evacuated early. I guess too early is better than too late.

[–]Szlosek 2 points3 points ago

As of now 32,000 people have been evacuated, I myself have everything important in the car ready to leave. The firefighters are doing an amazing job, as close as it is they have saved many homes.

Let the upvote:downvote ratio speak for itself. (I'm talking about this thread).

It's only a +3 for me. Makes me wonder what the other two were.

Unfortunately, Colorado Springs is even worse (by far)

Now where I live is on fire (Boulder)

[–]LivingReceiver 7 points8 points ago

Noooo, not the marijuana dispensaries!

[–]wheresmyhouseLiving life in peace 6 points7 points ago

I've got a buddy that works at Estes Park and is effectively trapped inside because every city in the state is cut-off from his location.

[–]littlemonster1618 3 points4 points ago

That's awful! We need rain!

There's a floor warning in CO Springs though, so that's a start!

They REALLY need to contain the one in boulder.

[–]wheresmyhouseLiving life in peace 2 points3 points ago

Not a huge issue for him, he lives in the park while he's working there.

[–]Khiraji[!] 1 point2 points ago

According to that link, the one near Ft. Collins looks to be a lot bigger? Or maybe I'm misreading it. Regardless, I hope all the fires are contained soon.

[–]Szlosek 0 points1 point ago

Its over 200,000 acres

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

It's a lot bigger, but the other ones pose a bigger threat to the cities themselves. Either way, terrible situation. I'm in downtown Denver and my allergies are not having a good time with this.

[–]Al_Scarface_Capone 0 points1 point ago

I'm between the two. As in Colorado Springs is an hour one way and Boulder is an hour the other (times are about, so no one correct me). I would dare say I'm screwed if this rain storm doesn't get a hell of a lot bigger.

[–]Silverwynd 0 points1 point ago

I WAS JUST THERE! Cascade is on fire, too. We left on Friday, and as soon as we got to Almont, a friend of my mom's who lives in Colorado Springs told us we got out just in time. Manitou Springs is on fire, too. Sucks. :[

[–]Szlosek 0 points1 point ago

Manitou is not on fire, they were evacuated a few days ago. The next day they were allowed to return to their homes.

[–]Silverwynd 0 points1 point ago

Well, that's good. I was misinformed then. Glad that they're fine, and send my wishes to everyone affected by the fires.

[–]suace -3 points-2 points ago

Every single time I hear about this, and I see just how bad it keeps going, and more fires keep appearing...I can't help but think this was no accident but something deliberately done to prevent Colorado from legalizing marijuana come November. I think voting (absentee voting especially) takes a backseat in the mind of a person who's home is burning down.

I hope I'm wrong. I'm hope I'm just being a crazy conspiracy nut. But....

Edit: I don't mind the downvotes, but if you guys think I'm so wrong, let me know why. Put my mind at rest that the feds and our government (or whoever was paid/blackmailed/hired to do it) aren't as big of assholes as I'm thinking they may be. Otherwise, I think that you just don't want to believe it.

[–]brown_felt_hatNyanyanyana 8 points9 points ago

I didn't downvote you, though I disagree.

It's one of those bias things that you're experiencing. Controversial issue that you feel strongly about + bad shit = some vague entity trying to stop it? "There was going to be a gay pride parade, but a water main burst and flooded main street. They must be trying to stop the homosexuals!" See what I mean? Two unrelated events that coincide usually don't mean anything. As much as 'The Man' is trying to stop legalization, I sincerely doubt they'd burn down a fucking state to prevent it, as damage is probably going to be billions.

[–]suace 0 points1 point ago

That could very well be it. It probably doesn't help I think the powers that control the U.S. would burn down an entire state. We bombed Tulsa in 1921 because it had too many successful African-Americans living in it. My grandparents saw bodies shoved down manholes in Detroit by police officers in the 1940s.

I think the only difference between now, and then, is that our government is far better at keeping their secrets.

[–]joshemory 2 points3 points ago

Na, I think the government has gotten worse at keeping secrets. The internet helps that.

[–]suace -1 points0 points ago

Then maybe the problem is that no one is listening, or paying attention. At least, not the people who aren't on the internet daily. My parents didn't even know a nuclear reactor cooling...thing was leaking a county away from them. I mean, sure, it's not a huge deal - but the internet is the reason I found out the nuclear power plant they live near is the worst rated one in the entire freaking country.

They had no idea. No one in that town does. Willful ignorance, they don't care. Just throw another steak on the grill and ride the mower around the lawn.

[–]mamjjasond 4 points5 points ago

Well, this is not really going to effect what people do in November, which is 3+ months away. It's going to be a lot colder and maybe even snowy then in that part of the country.

What you should be a lot more concerned about is global warming. A ton of record high temps were broken this past week in the US, and dry hot weather has everything to do with wildfires.

Not saying it was necessarily started by natural causes, but why would anyone associate mass wildfires with voting on marijuana legalization? How are those two thoughts going to be connected in anyone's mind?

[–]suace 0 points1 point ago

Fair enough, I hope it effects nothing, but if they continue to be unable to contain it...what if the fire took out an entire city? Like Boulder? That would be huge, the number of displaced people alone. It's awful to think of, and it's a lot of what-if's. Edit to add: I am no firefighter, maybe there isn't a risk of it actually burning down the larger cities. If so, consider my whole idea moot! Which I hope it is, for the sake of everything moral.

I'm in Michigan, and even we had a wildfire in the UP last month, which is absolutely crazy. Living here for nearly twenty years, and I've never heard of a wildfire. I'm sure the weather has everything to do with how horrible these fires are, and how uncontrollable they are. I know we'll never know how they started, where their source lies, and a million things could cause a fire under these conditions.

But still, the thought is there. I'm all for being wrong, I'm wrong all the time, but sometimes I'm right. I'll of course never know in this case, no one ever will, but it's a thought. Crazy as it is.

[–]thecolournerd 3 points4 points ago

Ok, I live in Colorado. I have my red card. I completely disagree with you.

First of all, we have a problem with wildfires every year. Earlier this year, in fact, a controlled burn caught a spark and became an uncontrolled raging beast of a fire. Last week, 8 fires erupted across the state. One was surmised to be caused by a person, and they are currently being tried with a possible triple life sentence for the damages they caused.

Secondly, we have had some very hot, very dry climate going on. Now, Colorado isn't a very humid place in general (one of the reasons I moved here) but hitting over 100 in June is pretty rare, and we broke some heat records that date back to the 1800s. Usually, if we break 100, it's in July or August. It got so bad that my neighbourhood's transformer went out and we were without power (along with most of the block) for 11 hours and they had to replace the transformer.

Thirdly, as mentioned elsewhere, legislation isn't on the ballot for months and that will be in the winter. If you wanted to think this was a conspiracy of the government, you should be thinking blizzards instead of fires. We get those, too.

This really seems like a wildhair you plucked out of the netherverse, dude.

[–]suace 0 points1 point ago

Thanks man, you said everything I needed to hear.

[–]Kage2021 9 points10 points ago

Really? Do you really need someone to explain to you why burning down a major American city, costing billions of dollars in damage, and threatening hundreds of thousands of innocent lives is not an attempt to thwart the legalization of marijuana?

Listen, if you care about legalizing marijuana, keep your damned mouth shut. There is little YOU can do to help, you're just making the rest of us look like nut cases.

[–]suace -2 points-1 points ago

Little did I think that the rudest comment ever directed toward me on reddit would come from /r/woahdude. Do you really think my one comment on reddit is going to hurt the entire legalization of marijuana? That's insane. I was simply here for a discussion, to share ideas.

Truly, this comment hurt quite a bit. I took time off of work to help collect signatures for the legalization effort in my own state.

Edit: Nevermind, I read through your comments and you're just a dick in general. I feel so so much better about everything now. I think you need to relax, chill, and get some fresh air. Have a glass of wine perhaps? It's good for the heart. I think I shall.

[–]Kage2021 5 points6 points ago

I'm sorry dude, I have to question the cognitive abilities of anyone who believes there's a remote possibility that burning down a major American city would be perpetrated in effort to stop pot becoming legal . I mean that really strikes me as insane considering the factors, such as the dry summer currently being experienced.

[–]suace -3 points-2 points ago

I believe it's a possibility. I don't believe it's a fact. No one will ever really know. The dry summer would be a perfect reason to commit such an act - it makes it that more unbelievable. Had it been a rainy season, the tactics would have been different. I'm actually a pretty smart person, and that's why I end up spouting what can sound like crackpot ideas. Take some, leave some - I think I'm on to something here, but just a moments pause it was.

[–]treggify 1 point2 points ago

Yeah that's a bit far fetched.

[–]aedmark 1 point2 points ago

I thought the same thing, dude.

[–]NoGardE 0 points1 point ago

I am upvoting you, just because this is hilarious. Seriously, though, it's HARD to set a state on fire. This year was easier than most, but it's impossible to create a significant increase in temperature in order to better facilitate the survival of the Pine Beetle, along with lower than average snow fall. The thing that started the fire could have been man-made, but the conditions for the fire to spread as it has are natural.
