Beware of trading scammers!

A subreddit for anything related to games (but not sports).

"Related" means that posts must contain gaming-related content in the link/post body, not just a "forced" connection via the title or a caption added to the content.

Posting Rules

  • Posts must be directly gaming-related. Thus, "generic" image macros/memes (where the character itself is not related to gaming) like Scumbag Steve, Good Guy Greg, etc. will be removed. Something that "reminds you of a game", or "looks like something from a game" is also not an appropriate submission; similarly, reaction GIFs are also not appropriate as submissions.

  • Following Reddiquette is encouraged

  • No "general" URL shorteners (bitly, tinyurl, etc). Single-site URL shorteners (such as youtu.be or fav.me) are allowed.

  • No game or product giveaway of any kind

  • NSFW submissions and comments must be labeled

  • Spoilers can be posted using the following formatting:
    [X Kills Y](/spoiler)
    Result: X Kills Y.

  • To mark a spoiler as relevant to a specific game/topic, use the alternate formatting:
    [Player 1 wins](/spoiler "Pong")
    Result:
    Player 1 wins

  • Report posts containing spoilers not using the above method

  • Don't post users' personal information.

Submission Rules

Is your post not showing up? Do not delete it. Wait 5 minutes to give AutoModerator a chance to look at it; it approves most submissions automatically. If it hasn't shown up after more than 5 minutes, simply message the moderators and ask us to let it through.

Personally loved Cataclysm more, standalone expansion!

[–]8bitstitch[S] 10 points11 points ago

Cataclysm was so fantastic! I really wish that another would come out.

[–]Montybrython 12 points13 points ago

Don't worry Mists of Pandaria will be out soon.

EDIT:That joke made me feel dirty... I'm leaving now.

[–]MuffButter 7 points8 points ago

Awe man, that slow conversion from crappy old mining vessel to galactic bad ass made you feel so awesome too. Seconded.

[–]dragossk 1 point2 points ago

Specially when the guy stops calling the Kuun-lan a mining vessel and starts calling it a warship.

[–]excommunicated 1 point2 points ago

The Beast is still one of my fav enemies. That infection mechanic was awesome, and the idea of how quickly it could have taken over the galaxy was some pressure.

[–]phammmmm[!] 9 points10 points ago

The Z axis concept blew my mind back then.

[–]meteor302 2 points3 points ago

only a very FEW games if any even today use the Z-axis for strategy which is such a simple concept in my opinion

Every time a major gaming show comes around, deep down I always have some hope that Relic and THQ will announce Homeworld 3.

I would love a Homeworld 3 but my guess is that THQ won't publish it because the Homeworld series has always been pretty obscure despite being almost universally acclaimed. Not much money to be made there.

It's a shame because this is one of my favourite series of all time. Homeworld 2 was great, Homeworld: Cataclysm was fantastic and Homeworld 1 was a masterpiece.

[–]8bitstitch[S] 2 points3 points ago

Yeah, I wish that wasn't the case. I'd bet though that if they did, the following that this game has now would make it decently popular and profitable.

[–]sir_grumph 8 points9 points ago

"We are away."

The seamless transition from the final intro cutscene into the game itself left me almost dumbfounded. I'd not experienced the like in a game before.

Hell, the entire intro itself was spellbinding.

[–]BionicJuice 5 points6 points ago

Oh man, my friend just made me buy this. Very fun game.

[–]8bitstitch[S] 4 points5 points ago

Definitely worth the buy, even years later.

[–]BionicJuice 3 points4 points ago

Yeah It's great, can't say how many times i've turned the unit cap off and crashed the game after making hundreds of scouts.

[–]8bitstitch[S] 1 point2 points ago

Hahaha. I'd always flood the late game with salvagers and just capture everything.

[–]lifebinder 1 point2 points ago

You mean that wasn't how you were supposed to play? ;-)

[–]Stegamasaurous 3 points4 points ago

Vengeance for the Khar-Selim! Vengeance for Kharak!

[–]SiS-Shadowman 3 points4 points ago

Homeworld 2, bundled with the PDS (point defense system) mod was so awesome. I fought battles that would last for hours. Come to think of it, I'll reinstall this game :D

[–]suckymacworthless 3 points4 points ago

Why can I hold all these salvage corvetts?!

[–]Reichsfuhrer_Grammer 2 points3 points ago

I drive past this building Imgur (photo not mine) everyday on my way to work. It is the Telekom Building in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. Every time I see it, I can hear the Adagio for Strings in my mind.

[–]Epslionbear 2 points3 points ago

I saw that game for a £1

Came back next day it was gone

I was kinda disapointed

[–]jammerk 2 points3 points ago

my first pc game was Command and Conquer: Tiberium Sun Those were the days...

[–]Samsy 2 points3 points ago

There was a BSG mod for Homeworld 2 I think...

[–]Thomas-C 1 point2 points ago

There is, and it is awesome. Uses music and dialogue from the series, and the models looks nice. Watching five Galacticas pummel a base star is pretty sweet to watch.

[–]Samsy 0 points1 point ago

Oh god, salivating

[–]Tom_Hanks13 2 points3 points ago

Silent death was my first PC game. Can honestly say that is what got me into PC gaming. It was closed down after EA bought them out in like 2001. I've hated EA before it was cool

[–]Deputy_Dan 2 points3 points ago

I liked Treasure Planet Battle at Procyon...

[–]JerosScotland 2 points3 points ago

I don't know how many years it has been now, but I am STILL bothered by the fact that the top group of ships next to the Mothership is just an upside-down version of the ones on the bottom. And of course, all ships in the game self right to keep themselves in one orientation eventually.

I keep telling myself its because they were trying to make a commentary on the 3D nature of the game, but its almost certainly just laziness and once you see it you CANNOT BLOODY STOP SEEING IT

At least the actual game had lots of polish.

[–]ProfProphet713 2 points3 points ago

Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes.

[–]malikye187 2 points3 points ago

That game was friggin BRILLIANT. I can't believe I had almost fogotten about this game. Time to find the old discs and get this installed for my "work from home day" on Friday. Cheers!

[–]Robofetus-5000 2 points3 points ago

This was the game that taught me a video game could be more than just fun. It showed me a game could combine story, music, acting and gameplay to make something so much more than any game I has ever played before. It gets reposted all the time in here, but I don't care. I'll upvote it everytime. This is one of the best games ever made and one of my favorite. Also, fuck the taidan.

[–]legitfraudster 2 points3 points ago

Kickstarter for Homeworld 3, please

[–]Sn00gle 1 point2 points ago

This game had one of the best athmosphere if ever seen. I remember how i almost shit myself when the aliens attacked the first time. Man, now i have to reinstall this, the addon and Homeworld2. Its gonna be epic. Thx OP

[–]8bitstitch[S] 0 points1 point ago

I found all my old games and did the exact same thing. Best decision ever.

[–]joshykins 0 points1 point ago

I read that Homeworld 1 or 2 (both?) have difficulties on 64 bit versions of Windows, are you aware of any work arounds?

[–]8bitstitch[S] 0 points1 point ago

No, sorry. I never had any issues. :/

[–]xMunchie 1 point2 points ago

Anyone know where one can get it now? I loved this game! Not sure what happened to it though :(

[–]8bitstitch[S] 2 points3 points ago

Amazon still has a bunch of cheap, used copies!

[–]kastegir 1 point2 points ago

I bought this because I am a Yes fan, and part of the soundtrack was done by them. Turned out to be a fantastic game and one of my favorites still.

[–]lpisme 1 point2 points ago

Best atmosphere of any game I've played before and since. Dark room, cool, ambient-trance space music. It totally sucks you in.

[–]Baelog 1 point2 points ago

I really like it, space opera rts at his best. Sins of a Solar Empire looks like a little Homeworld, but with a 4x aspect.

[–]Fearweaver 1 point2 points ago

This game was actually BAD-ASS I thank you for reminding me to reinstall this game !

[–]searinox 1 point2 points ago

This game is the reason I got into game development and 3D art.

I´m yet to find a game that pulls 3D strategy and tactics at that level, or to have such a good atmosphere and designs.

[–]Junkz0r 1 point2 points ago

This! was my first ever PC game. Well it was my dad's game and PC but I played the hell out of it.

[–]9-1-Holyshit 1 point2 points ago

I broke my copy of homeworld 2. OP kickstarted my search for a new one.

[–]ThatDeadDude 1 point2 points ago

Are there any major graphics update mods for this? I know, I'm a bad person, but I have a tough time playing 3D games that have aged.

[–]Zantiszar 1 point2 points ago

I'm currently playing homeworld 2 with complex 8.2.3 and I've read complex 9 gives you planets and abilities to capture them but yeah awesome game just love hyperspacing a fleet of battlecruisers and dreads onto the enemy

[–]Lemoncola 1 point2 points ago

THANK YOU!!! For years I have been searching for the name of this game...

[–]Othy 1 point2 points ago

Does anyone know where I can buy Homeworld 2 as an online download? I played the demo for ages.

[–]Zantiszar 0 points1 point ago

Suppostly I heard a friend of mine say he saw it in gog for like 5 bucks haven't checked myself but still worth it

[–]Spenzerr 1 point2 points ago

If you haven't heard of it already there is a small indie game called FLOTILLA. Its a 3d turn based space craft strategy and i believe its similar to this? Anyway its probably around 5$ or less on steam. It also has some of the best written (if not simple as pie) story mode with mercenary hamsters and bunnies commanding huge fleets.

[–]8bitstitch[S] 1 point2 points ago

Awesome! I'll definitely check it out! Thanks!

[–]nisseskjegg 0 points1 point ago

The first pc game i tried was Starcraft.

[–]emuchop 0 points1 point ago

Love the game but I say bungie's myth series are the best RTS.

[–]elmo1227 0 points1 point ago

yez

[–]Idontlikethespacebar -1 points0 points ago

IpersonallylikedHomeworld2better;mainlybecauseIdiscovereditfirst.

[–]Bennyboy1337 0 points1 point ago

HOmeworld 2 was just as good; COmplex Mod was the best!!!

It's sad the company went underwater... I think the rights where sold too.

I give my soul to play HM3.

[–]cannibaljim 2 points3 points ago

Relic didn't go out of business.

[–]cheeferton 0 points1 point ago

Yeah they still make quality games. The COH and WH40K series, while not everyone's cup of tea, are still really good. They are working on the COH sequel now, so we can only hope after that they will think about Homeworld 3.

[–]spgtothemax 0 points1 point ago

Damnit, it's posts like this that are running this subreddit into the ground

[–]opposing_critter -2 points-1 points ago

All I remember from HW 2 was the dodgy camera and god forbid if the last mineral node was directly at the very top of the lvl, can't even see that high.
