/r/HarmonRenaissance. Enough said.

I've seen like 5 posts like this so far this morning complaining about people circle-jerking in this sub reddit. These kind of posts are just as bad, I think

Circle jerks of circle jerks? Soon you'll make a post complaining about the complaining about the circle jerks of circle jerks.

[–]I2ichmond 2 points3 points ago

You know what: you're right. I'm going to shut up about the Harmon debacle for now. I do believe the 4th season deserves a chance... but so help me God, if Community takes a nosedive this fall, I will be back with a VENGEANCE!

[–]FeelgoodMarshall 4 points5 points ago

Who would have thought a forum entirely devoted to fans of a specific television program would be full of people who have positive feelings toward the person who created that program and was in charge of every aspect of it during every moment of it that currently exists for any of us to be fans of?

My impulse is to change the subject and argue that you're making a mistake by disliking Dan Harmon, but instead of that I'll just stick to my original point, which is: fans of a thing often revere the creator of that thing, which, even if you don't share their opinion, you at least have to admit makes sense. Making fun of a fan of something for also being a fan of the person who created it is a bit silly.

This used to be a community about community, now it's a circlejerk about Dan Harmon.

[–]winjeffy 2 points3 points ago

We need to settle this problem for the good of the group.

Exactly why there's subreddits for them.

[–]slyfox1908 4 points5 points ago

/r/DanHarmon has only 27 readers. Considering that Dan Harmon and Community are not (although I've been told otherwise) identical, perhaps some fawning could be moved over there?

[–]Sabvegas 5 points6 points ago

perhaps, message the mods and try to get them to add the subreddit in the info section.

[–]roosters93 1 point2 points ago

fuck family guy

[–]mezzizle 1 point2 points ago

As much as I want Harmon to be showrunner again, please don't bring a terrible "used to be funny" comedy to this subreddit. In other words, don't bring Family Guy into Community. I lost all faith in TV when Family Guy started to suck, and Community brought me back.

[–]n8wolf 1 point2 points ago

Was anyone else not impressed with season 3? I'm kind of happy Harmon is gone. We might get back to a plot or legitimate character development.

I upvoted you because you are expressing an opinion that will hopefully lead to some decent discussion, but I don't agree with you. I thought the most interesting part of the entire show was watching Troy have to deal with the AirCon school, it really added a lot to his character. In addition we've watched Jeff deal with his daddy issues, gotten some insight into Britta's past, and watched Shirly get remarried. I also loved how prominent the dean has become and the darkest timeline thing. While there were some weak episodes in the season, IMO the pillow fort and doppelganger ones stand out and being below par, and the Chang's insanity was a little over the top, I thought there were enough good episodes to make it the best season so far.

Edit: See look at all the fine discussion that came out of this : ).

it's hard to get past the flanderizing of most of the group. I think the season 3 episodes, especially the ones after the hiatus, would've been much bettered served with more creativity instead rehashing old jokes (and old episode concepts. I'm looking at you fake-flashback-episode 2). them dumbing down Pierce into one or two "I'm old" jokes per episode was the worst

[–]Alinosburns 1 point2 points ago

I don't see the issue with the fake episode flashbacks.

A) because it beats the kind of BS clip show style episode that we would normally start getting because of budgetary constraints.

B) it allows them to do things that wouldn't work as a full episode.

I also thought it gave them the opportunity to reflect on the school and not see it in the hugely negative way they do. While they believe that its their right as a student to bag the place. Their attempts to prevent others(Such as returning the rocket to save the school) are actually in their own interest regardless. Since if the school is shut down they are screwed.

The episode provided them with an affection for the school they didn't have prior. And with them expelled with nothing that they are guaranteed to gain by rescuing the Dean they attempt it even at the risk of jail.

Maybe it could have been achieved another way. But without direct access to the school since they had been expelled flash backs were what they were going to have to resort to.

Also not sure why we are complaining about clearly recycled concepts when season 1 and 2 have the same issues.

[–]BonerInSweatpants 1 point2 points ago

when you create an interesting concept and it works, blatantly repeating it starts to feel gimmicky and takes away what was great about the original: its uniqueness. this was the case for paintballs too, to an extent, yet they made it work (mostly) because the season 2 episodes were completely different genre spoofs. they just used paintball contests as the vehicle, not the entire concept of the episode (as was the case with fake-flashbacks)

but it wasn't just fake-flashback-episode. they also re-did documentary filmmaking, blanket forts, and make-believe special effects world for Abed to work out his emotional problems. it crossed the line from being endearingly self-referential to just simply rehashing everything that worked in the past, hoping it'd work again. and while there were many funny parts in these rehashes, as a whole they felt gimmicky and uninspired and a bit forced. they don't have to ooh-and-awe us with the creativity of a Remedial Chaos Theory every week. but some creativity is appreciated over none

*points* Look at this weirdo following Reddiquette! Acknowledging and even engaging with people of different opinions instead of using downvotes as a personal "Disagree" button! And his dumb baby!

[–]Alinosburns 1 point2 points ago

That's because 99% of people don't know what upvote and downvote actually represent and think of them more as a Like button on facebook. And this is essentially the reason Dislike doesn't exist on facebook to start with

[–]JDoobs -1 points0 points ago

No. No one else.

[–]mrawsome197 0 points1 point ago

Did you watch every episode of season three? Yes I did find the first couple episodes kind of bad but after that they became the best community episodes ever and if you feel differently than I think that you should have a marathon of every community episode and tell me that I am wrong.

[–]n8wolf 0 points1 point ago

Just did a marathon leading up to the finale. I know mine is not a popular opinion but I do believe bringing in some different show runners will bring it back to the four year community college plot they had originally set into motion.

[–]mrawsome197 0 points1 point ago

I agree with you, Kind of. I do think that all the people who are freaking out about him leaving and how the show is going to suck now are wrong, I have a high confidence that the cast can do anything and I (and most of the people in this community) will love it because they all are amazing actors and comedians but I haven't watched any of the stuff the new show runners have made so i don't know if it will be the same show that I have grown to love.

[–]n8wolf -3 points-2 points ago

Yeah... this totally takes away from the conversation?

Too true. I hope the coming season is good enough so we could move on from the drama - just think about it: how bad must the back office politics be if a showrunner gets kicked off of his own show so unceremoniously?
