I mean, funny if you don't understand the actual history.

[–]LeetroyJnkns 12 points13 points ago

No. It's funnier if you do know the history because it's totally absurd and hilarious as balls.

[–]Syn7axError -1 points0 points ago

It's funnier, but it kills the joke.

[–]abbiistabbii 17 points18 points ago

No, it's because Christianity was started when a padeophile impregnated a thirteen year old girl.

[–]Ghstfce 3 points4 points ago

And at the risk of being stoned to death, decided to concoct a story about being impregnated by god himself. Because let's face it, not too many people are keen on being buried to their waist and getting pelted to death with rocks.

[–]abbiistabbii 2 points3 points ago

True, but she was married to a 30 year old.

[–]Ghstfce 1 point2 points ago

Yes, in the original story Joseph did not wish to marry Mary based on her age. But they were to be wed anyhow. Mary fell pregnant before the marriage, which at the time was punishable by death. So one can plainly see it's not exactly a far stretch to say "God did it" to avoid getting brutally murdered by your peers for having pre-marital sex.

[–]abbiistabbii 1 point2 points ago

True but what does that say about marriage back then? It had nothing to do with love and all to do with money.

Edit: Also, how do we know what side of the story we are talking about? I think it would be highly likely that Joseph Married Mary, raped her and she dealt with the trauma of rape and pregnancy by making up a world where she was impregnated by God and the baby was somehow special, a delusion passed on to her son.

Frankly if we are going to lambaste Mohammed for being a Paedophile in a world where sexual freedom didn't exist past marrying someone for their wealth (IE: 99% of all marriages back then), then why are we giving a 30 year old Carpenter a free ride over marrying and raping a 13 year old girl?

[–]Ghstfce 1 point2 points ago

No one said anyone is giving Joseph and Mary a free ride. By today's standards, what was done in the past is SICK, which is especially why most countries have laws against that sort of thing. Granted, some countries still do arrange marriages, but for the most part we are no longer in a throne state of mind in order to arrange marriages for land/livestock/allegiances/whatever.

[–]willricci -1 points0 points ago

True but what does that say about marriage back then? It had nothing to do with love and all to do with money.

Are you implying that's changed now?

[–]lolrsk8s 4 points5 points ago

Given life expectancy 2000 years ago a 13 year old girl was relatively mature.

[–]abbiistabbii 2 points3 points ago

13 year olds, dude.

[–]lolrsk8s 0 points1 point ago

Yes but girls especially because they hit puberty before boys.

[–]abbiistabbii 0 points1 point ago

ಠ_ಠ

[–]lolrsk8s 0 points1 point ago

Is that because I misunderstood your point or because you don't think girls hit puberty before boys?

[–]abbiistabbii -1 points0 points ago

You misunderstood my point.

13 Year olds are still 13 year olds...

[–]lolrsk8s 0 points1 point ago

Yes and relative to the life expectancy and living conditions and responsibilities at the time, a 13 year old was mature. A 13 year old 2000 years ago was on average 1/4th done with his/her life and would have been doing meaningful labor for a few years.

[–]abbiistabbii 0 points1 point ago

Well then wouldn't that lessen the WTF factor of Mohammed marrying a child?

[–]lolrsk8s 0 points1 point ago

Given that Aisha was 6 when he married her, no.

[–]eraserhill -3 points-2 points ago

if it's wrong now it was wrong then. lets move on since the past is a moot issue.

[–]eraserhill 0 points1 point ago

oh cool, some pedophiles downvoted me.

[–]bob-the-dragon 0 points1 point ago

Oh snap!

[–]CharlesDarwin59[S] -5 points-4 points ago

[–]Revigator 1 point2 points ago

Or Sudden Clarity Clarence.

[–]HeilKaiba 1 point2 points ago

They're basically the same meme along with sudden clarity clarence.

[–]CharlesDarwin59[S] -4 points-3 points ago

youre right it probably would have been better as that meme, oh well still funny :D

[–]TheOneFreeEngineer 14 points15 points ago

just FYI, the story that Mohammed was a dissatisfied priest is from a polemic against Islam by crusaders and has no basis in fact

Edit: misspelled basis

[–]wikipediaBot 5 points6 points ago

polemic:

A polemic ( /plmk/) is a contentious argument that is intended to establish the truth of a specific belief and the falsity of the contrary belief. Polemics are mostly seen in arguments about very controversial topics.

Oh snap son!

[–]Bennyboy1337 1 point2 points ago

So much fucking brilliance in this.

[–]thename226 1 point2 points ago

I love you! It doesn't matter if you're a dude too; it'll just make some people hate us even more ;)

[–]Bherd25 1 point2 points ago

Funny intentions regardless of historical correctness.

[–]FinalGuardian 0 points1 point ago

WOMBO COMBO!

[–]nanospecial -1 points0 points ago

I think Catholics and Muslims have a sort of Treaty of Tordesillas thing going on here.

Catholic gets boys, and Muslim gets the girls. Jesus probably mediated on the whole thing.

[–]GeorgeOlduvai -1 points0 points ago

*priests

Other than that...well done

[–]DJSUMMIT -1 points0 points ago

what's with the "ie", "ei".. not one day without "athiest" or "preist"

[–]GeorgeOlduvai -1 points0 points ago

No idea. I grok that English isn't the most logical (nor sensible) language, yet these things happen.

Sidenote: In German it's rather different (and hilarious)-the difference between "scheisse" and "schiesse" is a lovely example.

[–]CharlesDarwin59[S] -5 points-4 points ago

DOH! hmm seems like google chrome spell check would have caught that one..alas lol

[–]MagicBob78 -3 points-2 points ago

BUUUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRNNNNNNNNNNNNN

[–]NotPeetaMellark -2 points-1 points ago

Mohammed was not a christian, just shows this subreddits true stance on ignorance

[–]CharlesDarwin59[S] -1 points0 points ago

Never says he was, just shows you much your reading comprehension sucks. it says he was shunned by christians, not that he was christian.

[–]Duthos -5 points-4 points ago

Zing!
