A criminal? Bake 'em away toys.

[–]ChilliMak 41 points42 points ago

Uh... Chief?

[–]Unidan 36 points37 points ago

Do what the kid said.

[–]Neonysus 1 point2 points ago

Can't you people take the law into your own hands? I mean, we can't be policing the entire city!

[–]A_Loki_In_Your_Mind 7 points8 points ago

Roger aye, Major!

[–]tothemooninaballoon 23 points24 points ago

As a criminal? How it feels for a citizen not stoping at a stop sign for 3 seconds as they watch us.

[–]jesushitlerchrist 16 points17 points ago

Or endangering everyone on the road by trying not to go over 55 as we pass a tractor on the highway because there's a cop car behind us.

[–]1zero2two8eight 4 points5 points ago

The 3 second rule isn't a law, just a recommendation.

[–]wesman212 12 points13 points ago

That's an awfully clean driving record you got there. Be a cryin' shame if someone messed that up.

[–]vtkc 0 points1 point ago

Well played gif posting funny man... well played.

[–]itsnick137 122 points123 points ago

I know the feeling. After a 12 hour shift everydayII "accidentally" leave my cell phone in my uniform pocket on vibrate so i dont hear it. Also no home phone. Though I'm just a mechanic for the Air Force so when they call me back in it's just for a lost tool and paperwork I don't care about. Nothing really important...

[–]hbombto[S] 332 points333 points ago

You are not "just" a mechanic. We all contribute.

[–]freakball 127 points128 points ago

Q: Who the fuck would downvote this?

A: People who don't actually contribute, that's who.

[–]herpdfafvre 111 points112 points ago

reddit really hates police officers.

[–]Mikey-2-Guns 81 points82 points ago

Not all of us.

[–]intesticles 10 points11 points ago

I'm oddly disappointed Mikey-2-Guns likes cops. :/

[–]Mikey-2-Guns 31 points32 points ago

Respect where respect is deserved.

[–]intesticles -1 points0 points ago

With a name like Mikey-2-guns, you're supposed to hold up Antonio's Gourmet Deli in Hoboken for some fresh capicola not blather online about respect for da man ;)

[–]insertuniquename 9 points10 points ago

I wouldn't say that. More like Reddit hates stupid laws and authority figures on power trips. I'd hope the majority of police officers would agree as well.

[–]smq08 1 point2 points ago

It goes beyond that. Especially since a lot of people are overly sensitive to what constitutes a "power trip." That gets thrown around entirely too much in regards to the police. Sure, it happens. But people think cops are on power trips just for doing their jobs.

[–]theimpolitegentleman 12 points13 points ago

even /r/trees shows open warmth and enthusiasm for kind members of law enforcement.

i think you need to check your sources again

[–]BroCop 6 points7 points ago

Well, depends on the day. It's more of a "We don't hate all cops, but generally speaking they want to take our weed so I hate them."

[–]theimpolitegentleman 1 point2 points ago

Lol, actually in trees the general community will say "shouldn't have been riding dirty" or try to tell you how to only do it when needed, dont smoke and drive, etc.

Go there just for a tiny while and you'll see this. /r/trees is a nice place but it seems as more people become active in it, it becomes more of a circle jerk.

"up tokes for up toke." "uptake for (whatever)"

And so on...

[–]Shock223 4 points5 points ago

/r/trees tends to be chill about most things (for obvious reasons). /r/politics on the other hand tends to hand out the downvote whenever they see a cop post.

[–]orthag 23 points24 points ago

I think Reddit is mostly made up if teenagers trying to be "cool" and people who think weed cures everything and that anarchy is a workable system of government.

[–]Canucklehead99 25 points26 points ago

No, but weed definitely isn't as bad as it has been legally deemed.

[–]Fast05GT 6 points7 points ago

The guys making the laws and those who's job it is to enforce it are completely different things.

[–]specialkake 5 points6 points ago

anarchy is a workable system of government.

Uh...

[–]Sir_Jeremiah 6 points7 points ago

Yep, because teenagers totally believe that stuff is true. /sarcasm

[–]Dreadgoat 22 points23 points ago

There are more than enough adults that believe that stuff is true. It happens more often with younger crowds because fewer of them have learned to think for themselves.

[–]Explosion_Jones 0 points1 point ago

None of those things apply to me, and I'm still kinda pissed about all the brutality cases I read about. Though I do try to be cool, so maybe it doesn't count.

[–]orthag 2 points3 points ago

The number of brutality cases when compared to the number of police departments in the United States changes the perspective of it all. And you'll notice that there are "repeat offender" departments.

[–]derpico 7 points8 points ago

false.

[–]ilooklikesethrogen 9 points10 points ago

I don't contribute shit, and even I upvoted.

[–]foxnesn 3 points4 points ago

So most of reddit then. :(

[–]killmore231 15 points16 points ago

Haha, so you're that guy who leaves before tools are turned in. But I kid. We are supposed to be on 3 ring standby at all times. People have tried that excuse and didn't go well for them. The best is when they make you come in to do training that they fucked up on. And then they make it seem like you are crazy when you do manage to make it in at noon because they work in the office and are taking "lunch" so come back in an hour.

[–]llazy_llama 20 points21 points ago

Assuming you're Air Force, there is no AFI or other regulation that requires you to be on telephone standby or to even own a phone. Legally (from a JAG or ADC perspective) they cannot require you to own anything that they do not either issue to you or provide you with an allowance to purchase.

Source: one of my Airmen received an Article 15 for failing to answer his phone. No attempt was ever made to send a runner to retrieve him. We fought the case, and with the help of the ADC, we won.

Addendum: But yeah, fuck the guy that leaves before the tools are in.

[–]Aulritta 2 points3 points ago

Is this where the joke comes from that "If [military branch of choice] wanted you to have a family, you would have been issued one"?

[–]llazy_llama 1 point2 points ago

Exactly! In this particular case, this is why you receive a larger housing allowance if you have dependents. Sure, they may not want you to have a family, but if you're going to run off and make one, they'd better not end up in the streets.

[–]killmore231 5 points6 points ago

This is good info. I will have to remember this because I'm pretty sure they gave some guy paperwork for that recently. Also, you are a good supervisor, seeing as a few people here just blindly follow what the office says, and never challenge them even if the think they are wrong because they "don't have the stripes for that". You always have the stripes to call out someone who is going against AFI/regulation.

[–]llazy_llama 11 points12 points ago

My supervision style has always felt sort of like being the head of the household in a family. If they genuinely fuck up, I'm not afraid to drop the hammer, but everyone else needs to just stay the fuck out of it. I'll give paperwork when it's needed, but if someone else tries to they'd damn well better have all their ducks in a row because I'll fight tooth and nail to get it overturned.

[–]TheHybr1d 2 points3 points ago

You are an awesome person. Just in case you didn't know.

[–]Moregunsthanpatience 1 point2 points ago

I had a supervisor attempt to write me an LOC for not answering my phone. I beat it on the fact that he was calling an old number saved in his phone and failed to change it after I sent an email to him, the shop chief, and the UDM about my number changing.

This is the same supervisor who tried to give me paperwork for: Not seeing a note on my POV windshield when I was driving a GOV all day, not sending him an email about an appointment when I told him in person because the email server was down "You put it on the calendar. NO! It's on your actual paper calendar!", missing a deadline when I was on quarters for two days with food poisoning, having a machete in my trunk, and having a 20mm dummy round on my desk.

And people wonder why I hated my time in the Air Force.

[–]silencer1581 1 point2 points ago

"Go get a tool rep" is my favorite phrase.

[–]watchtheworldsmolder 1 point2 points ago

Yeah this is a exercise that doesn't work, I work for the government and you don't "have" to answer your phone, but don't and welcome to the you're never getting ahead blacklist

[–]llazy_llama 2 points3 points ago

Depends on your position, I'm sure. We're not talking about political based civilian jobs, I'm talking about enlisted military. "Blacklisting," doesn't do a whole lot when promotions are based off of test scores, as it is in our case.

[–]itsnick137 1 point2 points ago

I never left before MY tools were turned. I'm a nazi with my tools. The whole shift gets called back for a lost tool.

[–]aaviationkid 3 points4 points ago

And it is not "just for a lost tool" they are so tight on tool control because that saves lives. It may seem annoying, but its better then losing an aircraft after fod'ing out an engine.

[–]jhutchi2 9 points10 points ago

I read this as 'how I feel after a long shit,' but the reaction is the same

[–]tp32 49 points50 points ago

As a police officer I feel the same way. It's worst on the last day of a long stretch and a few days off.

p.s. You know how much Reddit hates cops right? I'm waiting to see how this gets turned into you being tired from beating up homeless women and planting drugs on 12 year olds.

[–]hbombto[S] 64 points65 points ago

Yes. Sadly I'm picking up on that. Some dude told me to "get murdered". Nice. Oh well. There's also plenty of support, which I appreciate. It's also funny to see that the assumption is I'm a male. Nope, I'm a female redditor.

[–]tp32 29 points30 points ago

yeah I had someone tell me how they hoped I went on my next shift and got killed so that my family would have to know that I have a "shitty job".

[–]does_not_kill_people 12 points13 points ago

this makes me sad. my father is a cop of 40+ years and has never done something out of line- he handled the situation like a boss when one of his fellow officers tried to kill him. people forget that cops are people too, with loving families and real lives to lead, bills to pay, pets to feed, etc. you hear a few bad stories about a couple of cops and then bam, every single one of them is corrupt. it's not the occupation, it's the person.

[–]hbombto[S] 18 points19 points ago

People are lovely, aren't they?

[–]Thatguyispimp 1 point2 points ago

You should visit r/lawenforcement

[–]Stooooooopid 1 point2 points ago

There is a lot of trolls on here. People really resent stuff like the Fraternal Organization/order (whatever) of Police. You guys are supposed to work for us the double standard that exists is sickening. I have no beef with your average cop, but if you have ever busted a citizens balls then gave a break to your friend, you are a real piece of shit.

[–]SavageHenry0311 25 points26 points ago

Here's an alternative way of thinking about that:

You're actually doing that person a favor by letting them insult you. If there weren't a functional (not perfect) justice system and people like you out there on the sharp end to make it work, things would look a lot like Somalia does. No infrastructure for decent internet, no leisure time to read Reddit, and no inclination to get worked up about something that doesn't directly threaten their immediate life.

Plus, think about how good that person feels. Maybe they got a ticket or committed some minor infraction and got caught. They're so narcissistic and egotistical that they honestly don't believe laws should apply to them - but they're a little lazy and a bit cowardly, too. By insulting you, they're sticking it to The Man! They're Raging Against The System! They're Fighting The Good Fight, like Luke Motherfucking Skywalker, man!

Except, you know, they don't have to write some boring letter to their elected representative, or do anything hard like go to law school or start a grassroots campaign for a change they want. Nope, they were able to tell a cop to fuck right off to that cop's face (over the internet) and experienced no negative consequences - obviously because they're righteous.

Next time somebody insults you like that, you just think,"You're welcome for those positive feelings, man. Anytime."

I, on the other hand, reserve the right to insult you any time I want. You see, I am a paramedic. I know what you fuckers are doing when you call EMS for a drunk or an idiot you don't want to deal with. You know we have to take them, you bastards.

Why, oh why, do you want so many people to puke in my ambulance?

[–]Osiris32 8 points9 points ago

As a firefighter: neener neener, my rig can't transport!!

[–]dietbroccoli 1 point2 points ago

As a truck guy, I CAN'T HEAR YOU OVER MY CHAINSAW!!

[–]Osiris32 1 point2 points ago

I HAVE ONE, TOO!! ALONG WITH DRIP....HOLD ON, THIS THING IS LOUD, I'M TURNING IT OFF.

Okay, that's better. As I was saying, I also have portable pumps, drip torches, flare guns, a 300-gallon pumpkin, and a good half-mile of hose. *cough cough* Aww, damn, all that yelling made my throat raw.

[–]dietbroccoli 1 point2 points ago

You're a career guy, aren't you?

Justgotoneupped.jpg

[–]Osiris32 1 point2 points ago

Not hardly. I'm federal seasonal, at the whim of the mighty Department of the Interior.

[–]dietbroccoli 1 point2 points ago

Assuming you're from America, which state are you in? I volunteer in PA. Honestly, I don't really know much of what "federal seasonal" implies.

Edit: Oh, and I have a 103ft mid-mount Tower and a 700gal dual-pump 1500GPM Engine. Both Seagrave.

[–]Osiris32 1 point2 points ago

US Fish and Wildlife Service, working out of southeastern Oregon. We're only hired for the summer months (usually early June-late September). My department covers two refuges totally a litle over 1 million acres spread across the Oregon/Nevada border. We have 7 rigs, the biggest being our Type 2 Tatra, a monster 6x6 with a 3000 gallon tank with a 150 gpm/125 psi PTO pump. We have two Type 6s, both 150-gallon Ford F-550 frames with service bodies and 50 gpm/100 psi Mark IV pumps, converted by S&S. Two Type 3s, on Chevy truck frames. One is older, having the smaller 500 gallon tank and a 150 gpm/250 psi interior pump (not PTO, hate the damn thing, the newer having an extra 100 gallons and a much stronger 200 gpm/300 psi PTO. Finally we have two Type 4s, one of which is a reserve and I don't think has left the station since before I got initally hired in '08. Looks more like a dump truck than a fire truck. The other Type 4 is a Chevy, with an extended work cab with room for 6 plus gear, an 800 gallon tank, and a lo-flo 75 gpm/125 psi PTO for doing pump-and-roll in brush fires. That part is fun, you get two guys on one side, one on the hard line and one on a soft life, walking along side the rig. Two more sit up on top, one with a hard line and one with a soft. You can lay down a very impressive wet line that way.

But I'll stick to my Tatra, it has air-ride seats, individual satelite radios, and a remote-controlled monitor on the front bumper. Nothing better thn showing up a Hot Shot crew by driving up the opposite side of a fire, putting out a wall of water, wile jamming to Pantera.

[–]AstroboyA 4 points5 points ago

I'm no expert, but I don't think Somalia is the way it is because of a failed justice system. Just saying.

[–]Moregunsthanpatience 2 points3 points ago

I actually had a cop the other day ride with a suicide attempt in the ambulance, have her supervisor arrange for someone to drop her squad car off at the ED, and when the patient was medically cleared, she took the patient to the psychiatric hospital herself instead of making us wait for a non-emergency transport.

I've only ever had LE transport a psych patient once before, and that was because I bribed a sheriff's deputy with pizza at 2 am.

[–]BiologyNube 1 point2 points ago

As an old ED nurse, I've seen the party favors you guys and gals like to bring. :-D

Edit: spelling, grammar..it's a crapshoot.

[–]hbombto[S] 1 point2 points ago

You know the answer to this...medical concerns blah blah liability blah blah procedures. I'm truly sorry for the barf in your ambulance. Hey man, you may save my life one day. I take great care not to piss you guys off.

[–]SavageHenry0311 1 point2 points ago

No worries. Just venting my spleen, allowing you to perform a great service for me - I feel better now.

Thanks!

[–]btg52 2 points3 points ago

Bahahahaha!! Cop's wife here... and that's hilarious. I'll give him a glare now.

[–]Herpes_hurricane -1 points0 points ago

I like you. Everything sounded well educated and logical so i have nothing to disagree with. What makes it better is you're an infantry Marine so that knocks out that "grunt Marines are just asvab waivers" bullshit.

[–]Osiris32 2 points3 points ago

One of the sergeants for my local sheriff's office is this tiny little lady, who you should never, ever fuck with. I have seen her take on angry drunk bikers twice her size without breaking a sweat. I've ridden along with her several times, and she probably one of the best cops I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. Hopefully in about a year I'll be working with her, and I'll be a very happy rookie.

[–]sunkencorony 1 point2 points ago

We'll just call you "Andy" from Rookie Blue.

[–]thegreatgazoo 1 point2 points ago

Just remember that writing too many tickets is a risk factor for carpal tunnel syndrome, and I want you to be safe.

[–]Wolfosaurus 1 point2 points ago

I can't believe you plant drugs on 12 years olds.

[–]yeowoh 1 point2 points ago

I somehow ran into every DUI in the last 2 hours of my shift.

[–]Diplomad 8 points9 points ago

I think, at least from my perspective, most of us have learned to ignore the police haters that are rampant here. A lot of people are pro-police here however.

[–]tp32 5 points6 points ago

Yes I see that more often now. I usually chock it up to teenage angst and internet anonymity.

[–]Ibdaripalw 3 points4 points ago

Also remember that a lot of the people who don't have much love for police aren't rude or disrespectful enough to go around telling you to get shot. I think you're right when you say a lot of the death threats and similar posts about cops are written by teenagers hiding behind usernames and laptop screens.

[–]fordhook2000 1 point2 points ago

*chalk

Sorry...I can't help myself :-( Also I don't like when I find out I've been misusing something like this all along and just never knew...so I'm more trying to help than be annoying?

[–]liquid_j 3 points4 points ago

That's funny, I'm perusing the comments to see how many fellow users are going to be assholes....

I guess i can be happy not too many have come out....

Edit: And then I kept reading down... some real class there guys... well fuck those guys, I think OP does a hard job and good on her for sticking to it when she lives in a society that thinks its ok to post shit like the shit below this at LEOs.

[–]AlphaRedditor 90 points91 points ago

Fuck the bad rap you guys get, cause when shit goes down, everyone calls the cops. Thanks for your service.

[–]sindekit 1 point2 points ago

Only cause you can get in trouble for handling your own shit sometimes.

[–][deleted] ago

[–]mywhitewolf 7 points8 points ago

better than a few dozen + 1. wait, a few dozen people being bullied around by 1 drunk guy, no wonder the cop waited for backup, if a few dozen people can't handle him what chances does this 1 cop by himself have?

also, you now have a situation that involves a large group of people. this is hardly surprising.

[–][deleted] -3 points-2 points ago

Gotta call bullshit, times where you could say I "needed" them I didn't, the only exception I could think of is if my car got stolen/house robbed and I had to file a report for insurance. That's the only way I could get money back from insurance, I'd be a fool not to. You could argue that they might find my stuff, but realistically.. considering the time I was in a hit and run, I don't see it happening. I got hit and took off after the other car, after chasing them down trying to get a license plate number, the dispatcher screamed at my girlfriend for us to pull over because we can't chase them. I stopped, as told, and gave specific directions as to where this guy would come out (we were on a road with only 1 exit that couldn't be seen from where we stopped.) It was 2 fucking minutes tops from the police station, and they showed up 15 minutes later from the wrong direction. Guess who got to foot the bill for that? Me, 100%.

If there was a box I could check for my taxes, that stated I could never call the police, and the percentage taken out of my check that goes to them, would instead stay on my check.. I'd sign that shit in a heartbeat. I don't think I'm close to alone either.

Edit - I don't mind opinion related downvotes, I know it happens.. it's just karma, but at least make your case against me first! Be open to discussion at least.

[–]mywhitewolf 1 point2 points ago

way to ignore the aspect of policing called "deterrence". i wonder how many times the risk of being caught has stopped people committing crimes against you.

the number i would say would be pretty big, when you compair it to countries with poor policing ability like Africa.

[–]kawavulcan97 13 points14 points ago

Hey I'm a police dispatcher. Always wondered, why are you guys such dicks to us? (or maybe its just my department?)

[–]sabreteeth 4 points5 points ago

Shut up, Farva

[–]The1nOnlySilent 0 points1 point ago

I think it's just your department lol. We are pretty nice to dispatch here where I live.

[–]Diplomad 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, I started off as a dispatcher. I love mine now. They can fuck you in a heartbeat if they want. Plus, its a thankless job. I treat them as best as I possibly can.

[–]Grizmeer -2 points-1 points ago

Cop here. I love you guys. Probably more stressful than ours at times.

[–]MYDOGSTELLA 39 points40 points ago

But I bet if shit hit the fan, you would be there in a heart beat!

[–]hbombto[S] 57 points58 points ago

[–]d4vi3j03 22 points23 points ago

Upvote.. I almost downvoted though cause I feel you're begging with the whole first post thing.. but it made me laugh.

[–]hbombto[S] 10 points11 points ago

Yes, even though it was my first post, stating so has certainly proven to be a faux pas! Duly noted.

[–]DreadPiratesRobert 36 points37 points ago

Just don't let it happen again on your next first post

[–]kharmakazy 4 points5 points ago

I recommend you number all your posts just to be contrary.

(Don't do this, I don't want you to wind up calling 10-78 due to downvotes)

[–]markshlaf 2 points3 points ago

i cant see batman being a soccer fan

[–]negaduck2020 2 points3 points ago

I'm black, grew up in KC and Chicago. Had a number of run ins with police, so I think I have a pretty good handle on the whole cop bashing situation here. There are some cops that are asses, yes, but they make up a minority of the force. I've seen them do bullshit...sure...but I've also seen them genuinely concerned for a friend of mine on the edge of an overdose. I've spoken to several that feel beat down and put upon because "cop bashing" is such a popular thing in parts of our society.

I've been arrested more than a few times, and I've always treated the officers like people (my size makes me look intimidating even when I"m not trying to be so) and they, for the most part, have treated me the same. I've found that a number of officers DON'T think some of the reasons they have to persecute/arrest people are good reasons...but they've taken a pledge to follow the law as it is, not make it up as they see fit.

That in itself is a cause for respect.

I now own a house and have been out of trouble for a long time. I get pulled over every now and then for speeding or having a light out. I'm still nice as hell, but don't have any qualms calling them on bullshit if they are just gonna be overly assholish to me for no reason. Usually, they will tell me "I could cite you for this, but I'll just give you a warning this time, ok?" as we laugh about something or other and go our separate ways.

They are people. They do a job and they take it seriously. They are used to being hated and work in a system they have no ability to change from their perspective. They are reacting to the stimuli given them in the boundaries we have set up ourselves, by voting or not voting lawmakers into office.

Give them a break and treat them as human. Call them on bullshit if it really is bullshit. Don't trust them, like you shouldn't blindly trust anyone, but realize that these people care enough to put themselves in the line of fire for your ass. But most of all: Grow up and take responsibility for your own actions.

but they've taken a pledge to follow the law as it is, not make it up as they see fit.

Right, except that's bullshit.

In Florida and several other states, it's against the law for an unmarried man and woman to live together. As in, it's a crime. Illegal. Punishable to the full extent of the law. When was the last time you heard about such an arrest? Why exactly are drug laws based on 1930's "pot makes a darkie think he's as good as a white man" (exact quote, btw) an absolute must to enforce, but this law against unmarried cohabitation can just slide?

[–]negaduck2020 1 point2 points ago

ok. I think we simply have two views of the same thing. No problem. You have some good points...so do I. Thank you for pointing them out to me

[–]Pixel16 6 points7 points ago

This is exactly how I feel after a long shift then my Pager goes off again as soon as I sit down (i'm an emt)

[–]Moregunsthanpatience 1 point2 points ago

My personal favorite is a cardiac arrest as soon as I polish off a Double Gulp. 30 minutes of chest compressions while I'm about to wet myself.

[–]Pixel16 1 point2 points ago

Been there, know that feel dude. The sight of the hospital is godly at that point

[–]dietbroccoli 1 point2 points ago

Don't you love it when you work a double, get home and think "Oh finally, sleep." You're drifting off, all is right in the world, and suddenly "BUZZ BUZZ BLEEP BLOOP, MOTHERFUCKER! SOMEBODY THOUGHT THEIR CAR WAS ARBOREAL!"

It's like they wait for you.

[–]Pixel16 2 points3 points ago

I can't upvote this hard enough

[–]dietbroccoli 1 point2 points ago

Only people who live it understand. :p

There is no officer friendly.

[–]squishy_placenta 7 points8 points ago

I am a volunteer firefighter, and that's exactly how I feel when a call comes in while I'm sleeping.

[–]yamachatori 4 points5 points ago

As a career and volunteer firefighter i feel like that when i get off of a busy shift and about get home when a call comes in.

[–]Osiris32 1 point2 points ago

2am, in the bunkhouse. Place is dead silent except for the gentle squeak of my fan and the very soft, low hiss of the water heater. In the distance, the soft yelp of a coyote drifts throught the window. A light breeze rustles the grass outside.

SUDDENLY, TWO-TONES OVER THE RADIO, "ALL UNITS, PLEASE STANDBY FOR FIRE DISPATCH INFORMATION!"

Fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu!!

[–]Slidewolf 6 points7 points ago

Good you know how to shut off when your not working! Thank you for serving and protecting the public, we may not always seem this way but we appreciate the hell out of you.

[–]CactusJacques 18 points19 points ago

I respect that dude. As a pothead, I don't always see eye to eye with the men in blue, but it's a thankless job that you guys do and much respect for workin hard to keep us safe.

[–]Darwinist 11 points12 points ago

If the world could demonstrate this level if empathy our society would be much better off.

[–]Underbart 11 points12 points ago

What's with all of the negative comments just because this guy is a police officer? As many bad or corrupt cops there are, there are still plenty of good guys too. And whether or not you like the cops, I bet you'll call them as soon as you need them.

[–]thescrapplekid 1 point2 points ago

I am a night maintenance guy at the hotel... for the last 10mins of work, its the same way I feel. Sadly that's when most of the BS seems to happen

[–]ashrah 1 point2 points ago

Where is the rest of Batman's arm? Looks like he has a hovering wrist.

[–]Andypwns 1 point2 points ago

I GOT MY FINGERS CROSSED FREDDIE!!!! I HOPE I GET THE JOBBIE!!! CROSSSSSSSSSSSSSED CROOOOOOSSSSSSEDDDD!

[–]broiled 1 point2 points ago

[–]WinkMe 1 point2 points ago

RUN! HE'S A COP EVERYBODY! QUICK! HIDE /r/trees ! ! !

[–]Critikill81 1 point2 points ago

This isn't your first post. Why you gotta lie?

[–]Bear10 1 point2 points ago

I know how you feel XD I'm a rent-a-cop, but my supervisors like to think I'm some kind of robot who doesn't need sleep and enjoys shitty sites. When I get off shift or I'm on my day off, I drop off the face of the earth as far as their concerned

[–]M0b1u5 1 point2 points ago

If, as a police officer, you genuinely feel like your job is to protect the citizens and serve their needs, then I think you deserve a beer and a pat on the back for a job well done.

[–]doublestack 1 point2 points ago

Why would you want to be a cop? It doesn't really pay that well does it? Its kind of a dangerous job and a lot of people (citizens) hate you for it or are afraid of you. I wonder how many of you were bullies in high school? Most of the cops I've had dealings with seemed to just be bullies with a gun and a badge, so they can be a bully legally.

[–]iHelix150 11 points12 points ago

Just wanted to say thanks for being a cop.

Like any other industry, police have a lot of good guys and a handful of bad guys. Like any other industry, even the good departments will have one or two bad guys, but a good management will keep that to the bare minimum. Like any other industry, there are also bad departments that start with a top down attitude of not giving a shit about the 'customer', or in the case of policing, running the department with an 'us vs them' mentality instead of instilling the value of serving the public.

And like any other industry, the bad players get 100x more publicity for each one bad incident than all the good guys get for doing their jobs professionally and competently over long periods.

So IMHO saying all cops are bad (aka fuck tha po-lice) is no different than a racist saying all black people are useless. You just can't pre-judge any group.

So yeah, thanks for fighting the good fight.

[–]naloxone 5 points6 points ago

Paramedic here... currently on the last leg of my 36. I know that feel, bro.

Edit: Read further, found out that you are a sis and not a bro. Either way, you're awesome and thank you for what you do!

[–]Demojen 3 points4 points ago

This is pretty much how everyone who works "with the public" feels after a long shift.

[–]ActuallyYeah 1 point2 points ago

That last move of his really sells it.

[–]aeriniell 2 points3 points ago

As a crime lab unit, that's how I feel when you guys call us right before shift change.

[–]DickMcLongCock 7 points8 points ago

Everyone always says how horrible the Police are but I've never had a bad experience with them. I've been pulled over several times and they have been awesome.

EDIT: Seriously? I'm getting downvoted because I've never had a problem with cops?

[–]piggiesarelame 11 points12 points ago

I bet you are white

[–]godoffire07 3 points4 points ago

Yeah in Louisiana we were allowed to work 6 hours over as long as we had a 6 break between shifts. So it would always work out I hit the end of my 12 hr shift then have to stay over another 6 because someone couldn't come I because they were sick. I don't miss that aspect anymore.

[–]JoePurdy 3 points4 points ago

Thank you for what you do.

[–]BDTS 5 points6 points ago

Thanks for doing what you do, buddy.

[–]Revenant10-15 1 point2 points ago

[–]Atreides1010 2 points3 points ago

I don't blame you. You certainly are entitled to some chill time. Thanks for your service!

[–]Freshenstein -1 points0 points ago

Oh noes it's the po po! You guys suck! BOO! HISS! But can you take care of this ticket please?

Seriously though thank you for putting your life on the line to protect people on a daily basis. Even though you may not feel like it you really are a real life hero that we should look up to more often (and pay better too).

[–]gnihtemoS 2 points3 points ago

what made you want to become a policeman officer?

[–]xxena9 1 point2 points ago

I am a cop (female homicide detective) and worked a lot of time on the street. Answer is simply to help. No cliche, life is life and we can only do what we can. I have literally held a scared young man's hand as he died (fuck Gsr and DNA, the kid was dying) then held his mom when she collapsed as I notified her. No one should die alone, and someone needs to speak for those who can no longer speak for themselves. And give their families the answers they deserve. Someone rode with me once and said he was surprised how judgemental the public was and also said his eyes were opened to see that I'm just a person like everyone else. I'm a gamer, I love and rescue cats, and I could care less if you smoke pot . I'd probably try it myself if I wasn't tested regularly, cuz my job has some stress! Don't hate on the police (or anyone else for that matter) unless you know them. One of the reasons I like reddit is the tolerance shown to others. Please extend it to the good cops and other emergency workers of the world. However, I will admit I am no Batman.....

[–]LOLinternetLOL 2 points3 points ago

I kind of wanted to upvote you, but you gave me no choice with the "hey guys first post". >mfw

[–]Monifix 1 point2 points ago

[–]Diplomad 3 points4 points ago

My department gave us Nextels (Direct Connect) a few years ago with the mandate that we must leave them on and have them on us at all times. FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU

Even my off days, 75% of my actions and communications are work related.

[–]malcolmreynolds1989 1 point2 points ago
