I've made huge signs like this at HD. You use this paint-brush/marker hybrid thingy, and since you hold it like a plunger, it tends to come out looking like that a lot. Curves are directed by the shoulder (rather than the wrist for smaller writing), so they are nice and smooth.

I liked driving the reach truck. Never tried the electric pallet jack or the propane forklift, though. The electric ladder scared the shit out of me; gets so wobbly at the top.

I am glad my store did not have any electric ladders. Those things looked terrifying. Then again, the management at the time was very anti-cross-training and it took me close to a year for them to convince them to train me on the saws (takes all of 30 min + an hour of computer training). My department was right next to the saws and on a weekend I would probably spend a good quarter of my shift trying to chase down someone to run the saws.

Why couldn't the lumber guys come run the saws? They were all trained on the reach truck and order picker, and few others were at the time, so they basically were stuck driving them all day. IIRC our store is relatively high sales for its physical footprint, so pretty much any time a customer trys to buy for any kind of meaningful project, some kind of forklift/reach truck/order picker operation was needed.

Then again, because of the large low income/student/apartment dweller population my store serves, there is a HUGE demand for stuff cut on the panel saws... being able to get stuff cut to easily a 1/16" of what you want is awesome if you can't or don't own a table saw - on a saturday and sunday the saw would be in near continuous use for the peak hours.

I should go to bed, I'm not sure why I talked about the saw. Funny story: One Saturday I drove to work, forgot to clock in, and got grabbed going out of the break room to run the panel saw. 90 minutes of continuous sawing later, someone finally comes to relieve me and I get to the millwork desk (where I work) and they are wondering where the hell I was - they paged me multiple times apparently (didn't hear it with the ear protection and noise), called my parents, who were worried because nobody had any idea where I was and of course tried the computer room, who told them that I wasn't clocked in.

I almost had a heart attack this one time: An assoc. was as high as one could go on the electric ladder, and he realized he was just out of reach of what he needed. So he does the logical thing (ಠ_ಠ) and grabs the side rails and jerks his body weight forward. I'm thinking this thing is going to come toppling down, but it just kind of slides a little. He did it three times in a row, and moved the whole thing about a foot and a half over.

I guess he'd done it before, but I almost threw up.

Home Depot changed their slogan to "More Saving. More Doing." about 2 years go. Shows you how hold this photo is. And yes, all of the signs in every store had to be replaced when they made the switch.

Actually, its closer to three years ago. And actually, because of the recession and Home Depot's sales dropping by billions in 2008-9, stores were not required to replace anything which had the "You can do it, We can help" slogan on it. The store I work at actually has a few signs like that (but smaller) that have the old slogan on them still.
