Meme is any repeatable idea (in colloquial usage, one which is repeated via the internet) to further distort the meaning would be pretty fucked.

I'm sorry you learned of these things via Reddit, after all of the sites you mentioned came into existence and anyone with an original thought in their head and skill with image manipulation software had long abandoned the practice of creating them for greener pastures, but they're called "image macros" - not "memes", not "advice animals" (except when they meet the specific criteria of giving advice and being an animal).

It'd be like calling (bad) poems "words".
